After meeting with her new pet, or newly altered pet, Anna walked back to Jimmy, and she pummeled him with questions, of course. Generally she didn't care to explore the magical abilities of humans across this odd world, but Jimmy achieved the unthinkable today.
Anna picked up on that, and so she asked him, "Did you make my QT smarter?"
"I did more than that," He smiled softly. "I turned her into the perfect pet. You'll be safe up there, don't worry."
Naturally, Anna didn't let go of the topic, and frantically asked, "Thank you, baby, but how smart is she? Are we talking about dog smart, or gorilla smart here?"
"You have a weird scale of intelligence there," He chuckled, and then added, "Human smart. She might be smarter than I am, granted, if we consider that she doesn't know anything about Electrical Engineering."
"Fascinating…" Anna's tone lowered. "Do you realize how much your powers can affect this world? I mean, it's already a weird world, but imagine what it would be like if every third or fourth animal was as intelligent as you and I?"
Holding her head, noticeably frustrated, she then added, "It would be the equivalent of some random alien civilization performing advanced experiments on apes. It can alter the course of the future forever! Natural selection would start being more and more unfair if intelligent animals breed, and things can spiral out of control in just a few hundred years. We wouldn't need an asteroid to kill the dinosaurs, you'd beat the asteroid to it."
Anna made a great point, but Jimmy simply nodded along. He didn't really care about issues regarding evolution, or natural selection, so intuitively he didn't even consider it a problem.
For that matter, he held her shoulder, and expressed, "I won't cause a mass extinction event, don't worry. I promise you, we'll only tame a few dinosaurs that could help us survive. My powers may look threatening, but our life is still very simple. Big animals want to eat us, and we don't want to be eaten. That's all there is to this, so don't overthink it."
Afterwards, he squeezed her cheek, and added, "Come on, now, we don't have much time. Hop on your QT, and hit the sky. See if you can find those fast dinos for us. Hopefully, they're far away from the Giant's Ditch."
Anna calmed down a little bit. She was surprised by the calming effects his words had on her, but then again, they've grown close recently. She wasn't playing any toxic games anymore, like she did before they started dating. She didn't need tactics, she didn't have to mess with him, and this in turn gave open communication a chance to shine. They were happy with each other.
Rulya looked at them in envy. She craved to be in Anna's spot, but she couldn't really make a move right now.
Anyway, the people around them had barely understood anything Anna and Jimmy said. Words like Mass Extinction, and Electrical Engineering were foreign for them, so at some point they stopped listening to the two of them, and were mostly thinking about what kind of dinosaur they were going to get.
Anna climbed on her new pet's back, and tried to figure out how to steer it. The combinations were equally simple considering how smart her pet was. She pinched its wings, and got the QT to spread them.
The QT's wings were a stunning eleven meters, or thirty-six feet! When she flapped her wings, the people close by were almost knocked out of their feet, and seconds later, the QT hit the sky with Anna on her back! Her speed accelerated after every other flap, and so Anna started exploring the wonders of the sky!
The survivors were in shock! They've expected Anna to fall off, but that was not the case. The QT's back was big enough to support her properly, and since Anna was holding on to its fur, the ascension went smoothly.
Nechi watched her go, she was worried of course, and whispered, "Good luck, sister."
Anyway, after watching the QT take off, the survivors then awkwardly climbed on top of Gutaxun's back. They were nervous being this close to its head, but Gutaxun was accommodating, and used his snout like a stepping stone.
Jimmy and Nechi followed suit, and Eni was asked to patrol the ground, and see if she could locate any giants, so they could avoid them. It was best to be safe, and as efficient as possible.
The group was on the move now. However, before he settled in well, Jimmy noticed that Zik wasn't in a great mood. He saw this as a threat, because although it was unlikely, he feared that Zik saw him as an odd, demon of sorts.
Granted, demons were not discovered yet, but humans had strong intuition, or gut feelings that alerted them when something wasn't right. The Uncanny Valley effect was one of the many examples.
For that matter, he tried to defuse any threat before it developed into an issue. He did not want to kill Zik with a heart attack or something like that just to defuse the threat. He let Nechi steer Gutaxun, as best as she could, and went over to talk to him.
"Why the long face, Zik?" He asked. "Are you not excited about getting a pet dino?"
Zik did not answer right away. He even got more tense when he heard the question. He was in distress, but he did answer after taking a deep breath.
"Let me tell you something, kid," His voice deepened. "I've been a hunter for many moons, I killed more 'dinos' than I can count, and I've always given them a merciful death. I've respected them, because it was expected of me to respect them, but I felt nothing. They were just meat to me."
It was hard to see where he was going with this, but Jimmy was relieved. Zik didn't see Jimmy as a threat, he was just a grumpy hunter.
Zik confirmed this, by adding to his rant, "The only dinosaur that earned my respect, was the one I couldn't kill."
"Which dinosaur is that?" He asked.
"I call him Rampage," Zik answered. "I even know where he likes to hang out, but we hunters call them Head Stompers. Rampage is the biggest dinosaur I've ever seen, he's even bigger than his friends. Mind you, the average Head Stomper is taller than your 'Gutty' if we compare their hip sizes, now imagine how big they look when they raise their long necks. Rampage is even bigger."
Finishing his rant, Zik then said, "I will not ride a dinosaur that I do not respect. Either you tame Rampage for me, or I jump down right now, and look for survivors by myself."
"Goodness' sake, Zik!" Cika sighed. "Why do you have to stress the boy out with your nightmares?"
"It's alright," He waved his hand, and smiled. "Why do you call him Rampage?"
"I've seen that leaf chewer eat a hunter in front of me." Zik answered, bluntly. "Its buddies never did that, but he did it to spite us. Rampage is one of a kind, and he knows it. I've even seen him stomp smaller dinosaurs just for fun, and I know for sure that he'd have no trouble breaking every bone of the giants that almost wiped us out. I respect him, but still, I want him to kiss my feet, and be my pet, understand? I will not settle for less."
"I can respect that," He played along. "But you gotta meet me halfway here, Zik, because we don't have much time. You have to settle for a small leaf chewer for now, and tomorrow we can visit Rampage, and I promise you, I will tame him for you."
"No," Zik shook his head. "I'll search for survivors on foot. I'm no stranger to night hunting, and now that I feel well, the predators of the night have to worry about me, more than I need to worry about them. Tomorrow, we'll visit Rampage."
Zik then jumped off of Gutaxun, and rolled across the ground as if a five-meter drop, or sixteen foot drop was nothing. He sprinted across the grasslands with a spear on his hands, and ran like he knew exactly where he was going. He wasn't disoriented anymore.
"Jesus, what a fucking bear!" Jimmy exclaimed, and he was quite amused. "I love that guy."
Unbothered, Cika added, "I love him too, sometimes."
