Jimmy initially wanted to heal his father's leg slowly, because he didn't want to hurt him. But as he looked at the deep wounds, he learned that healing it quickly was far more efficient. It would cause the least pain.
Expecting what was about to happen, Lasra rushed and brought a piece of wood, a branch, and put it in Gnegor's mouth.
"For your teeth, sweetheart." She said, "You've lost plenty of teeth already. I love you, but I won't chew your food for you."
Lasra was a gem. Jimmy could see where he got parts of his humor from, but other than that, she was smart. Her intelligence was crystalized, she had experience with wounded men and women, and knew what to expect.
"Good call," Jimmy chuckled, and then he looked at his father, "Brace yourself."
"Mamomumo," Gnegor tried to speak.
He had a branch in his mouth, so of course he didn't make much sense. But that didn't matter, he likely just gave the greenlight.
Afterwards, as Gnegor tightened his body to prepare himself, Jimmy poured an unholy amount of mana into his father's leg, inducing rapid, split second healing!
At first they heard his bone snap, as it was fitting into place. It was a horrid snap, much like the crack of a thin branch, and it made everyone who heard it wince in union, as if they felt his pain too!
Gnegor screamed through the pain, but his screams were muffled by the branch in his mouth. At some point, he bit on it so hard that he snapped it, and had its two ends fly a few feet away. This pain was three times sharper than the bite itself that he experienced several years ago! It almost knocked him out, but he pulled through.
The old bitemarks disappeared within seconds, his tendons healed completely, and his leg muscle regenerated. A lot of things were happening at once, so the pain he felt was understandable, but it was also very short.
It lasted for half a minute, and as blood started flowing through his former wound normally, and without absurd obstructions, the pain disappeared as if it was never there to begin with. He was fine.
Jimmy had silently prepared him for the shock by cleaning his arteries of thick fat, so his father wouldn't suffer a heart attack. He came in prepared.
After Gnegor calmed down, he spat the branch out of his mouth, and took a few deep breaths. He was recovering from the sharp pain, mentally at least.
"Son of a bitch, that hurt!" He groaned.
Afterwards, he started wiggling his toes, and figured out that he could move them freely. They were sore, but otherwise fully functional.
With little help, he stood up, and tried his relatively new leg out, but he still limped a bit when he walked. He had walked with a limp for years, so it would take a while until he started walking normally, but he wasn't in any pain. He just walked funny while he tried to figure out the full use of his right leg.
"I think it worked," He stretched a wide, hopeful smile.
"It did work," Jimmy said, "It might take you a while to walk normally, but your leg is as healthy as it was when you were a boy."
Gnegor was a hairy, dark haired man. He was like a bear, so it was hard to see the smile past his thick beard, but his eyes said it all. He was happy, perhaps happier than when he became a father for the first time. Lasra definitely hadn't seen him this happy before.
"You really fixed him!" She celebrated, and hugged Jimmy. "Thank you, sweetie, I haven't seen this happy for a while, or, ever."
Gnegor leaped over, put his massive hand on Jimmy's shoulder, almost knocking the two of them over with his sheer size, and then he looked him in the eye, visibly thankful.
"I didn't think you could do it," He expressed, "Thank you, son. I'll kick a dinosaur's ass for you bare handed as soon as I learn how to run. You'll eat well."
"Use a spear, please," Jimmy chuckled, "There are plenty of bites I can't heal."
"As long as I have two arms, I can fight." He let out a deep chuckle, like that of a giant's. "Heck, I can even fight with one arm. Having one arm is better than waking up dead."
…
Anna made progress a lot quicker as she talked to her parents. She was naturally curious, asked a lot of questions, and got them to unravel the past.
Apparently, she had lost an older brother while he was on a hunt. He died at the ripe age of twenty-two, one year ago, or last year's winter.
Other hunters reported that he had been disoriented by the cold, and was jumped by an Allosaurus Fragilis, the species that Gutaxun belonged to. He was bitten on the head, and taken away, so his corpse was never recovered.
Nechi and Anna had lost their older brother, because mother nature had deemed it so. Everyone had to eat, even dinosaurs, so her parents weren't mad, they weren't vengeful, and said that this was their way of life. Blunt death was always a possibility as soon as the hunters left their home, and people have made peace with that fact.
Anna silently mourned for her brother, one that she didn't have the chance to meet, but she couldn't do anything about it. In a way, this made her treasure Nechi a lot more. Family was very valuable in a world like this one, she understood that now.
Anyway, she discovered that both of her parents had these horrid shoulder problems. They've been hunters in the past, and as people with Dinosaur Strength, they've thrown spears so many times that they first strained their shoulders, and then tore the tendons in their rotator cuffs a little bit.
Their arms have been mostly immobile for years. They suffered through pain daily, and were only starting to feel better recently, but otherwise they could barely perform simple tasks, like eating food, or even hugging their loved ones. It was a horrible way to live.
Anna disappeared into the crowd, grabbed Jimmy, and brought him to her parents immediately. He looked at their shoulders, and managed to heal them slowly.
There were no broken bones, just over-stretched tendons with tiny rips on them which have healed over time, so they were hardly a challenge to heal. Just like that, he gave them back their mobility, their life, and they simply bursted in joy as a response.
Anna's mother was crying nonstop, and her father shed a few tears as well, even though he tried to hide it.
Jimmy and Anna were embraced in a deep hug, and almost got crushed by the absolute bear as he tried to relearn how his arms worked, but they were okay. He just made another couple happy, by fixing non-fatal wounds that were considered impossible to heal before.
Just like that, yet another couple was physically able to join future hunts. Anna's parents were in their forties, but they were tough, and now that they could hold spears as well, the fat they gathered up over the years, was bound to turn into large muscles soon!
The word regarding Jimmy's healing abilities spread like a wildfire, so he ended up healing twenty people that day, young and old. Mostly old, or middle aged, but he performed a great deal of community service nonetheless!
Jimmy bought everyone's loyalty with a day's worth of work. Metaphorically, everyone would take a spear to the face for him, even the people he didn't heal. They were all very thankful!
The future finally started to look bright. Challenges, be it grave or simple, seemed like no challenges at all.
