Chapter 48: Fight in the arena

The eel flew upward on a platform. It was black and surged into the air, glowing with energy. Mike looked around. The audience grew restless. He heard them shouting.

"Get him!"

"Kill him quickly!"

At first, Mike thought they meant him. But when the monster emerged, everyone screamed in excitement. They cheered and shouted even louder.

"Turn him into fish food!"

Mike thought for a moment. Fish food? Fine. I will turn it into cooked fish.

Mike looked toward the corridor where he himself had entered. He stared in shock. He saw four knights carrying a massive chain. The chain was fastened around the monster's neck.

Mike examined it closely. The monster had the same body as a troll, but its mouth was different. It had a huge fish mouth filled with sharp teeth. When the monster roared, Mike's ears began to hurt.

Suddenly, the monster ripped off the heads of the two knights closest to it. It happened so fast that the heads were already gone, swallowed whole. The remaining two knights immediately let go and tried to run.

They did not make it.

The monster grabbed their bodies and crushed them instantly.

As it looked around, it finally noticed the spectators. It saw them as an endless source of food and prepared to charge.

After a loud scream, Mike realized what it was about to do. He pulled his sword from his inventory and aimed carefully. Then he threw it.

At that exact moment, the monster turned around. The sword sliced into the back of the massive fish creature. It dealt more damage than it looked like it should. The monster lost its balance and crashed to the ground.

Mike sprinted toward it. The monster lay still, barely moving. Its skin turned pale white and began to crumble. Cracks spread across its body, and red flesh became visible beneath the surface.

Mike knew the narrator above them had not yet declared a winner.

So it was not over.

Mike quickly pulled his sword out. Blood sprayed as the blade tore free from the wound.

The monster rose again. The torn skin began to close, and the wound on its back had already healed completely. Red streaks spread across its white skin. Now it was no longer looking at the spectators. Its full focus was on Mike. Its mouth opened wide, revealing rows of sharp teeth.

The monster lunged forward. The arena shook from its movement and from the screaming crowd. Mike held his sword steady and waited for the attack. The monster was faster than expected and was already close. It struck immediately, reaching for Mike with its arm.

Mike reacted at once and sliced through the air, severing the monster's arm. The loose arm fell into the sand of the arena. Blood sprayed everywhere and splashed across the ground. The pain caused the monster to let out a loud scream. It shook its head violently, trying to clear its thoughts.

This time, it was no longer driven by rage.

This time, it attacked tactically and intelligently.

It stopped its strike mid air. Mike had not expected that. As Mike swung forward, the monster seized the opportunity. With a sudden motion, it grabbed him with one arm, aimed upward, and with all its strength hurled Mike into the air.

The sword fell to the ground. Mike quickly recalled it into his inventory, but he could not equip it in time. He was thrown higher and higher until he struck the air barrier. He pierced through it and found himself back in the water.

The water closed around him, stealing his breath.

Mike opened his eyes and immediately felt something grab him. The monster was outside the air barrier.

"Argh, damn it."

Mike left his sword in the inventory. The monster gripped him with one arm, but Mike clamped both hands onto the monster's arm and pushed with all his strength. A struggle began. Who had more power?

Then Mike grinned.

He had a good idea.

Earlier, when he was trapped underwater, he had removed his armor so he would not sink. Now, he equipped the Titan chestplate and held it in his hands. With force, he slammed the chestplate into the monster, but it was not enough.

Mike tore himself free from the monster's grip. He was free, but he wanted to end this now.

He equipped the Titan armguards and threw them onto the monster. Crushed and unable to move, it was dragged downward. In one motion, Mike equipped everything in his inventory. The monster was pulled down a little, then broke free again, exactly as planned, and shot upward toward Mike.

But Mike already had his sword in his hands.

With all his strength, he plunged downward, blade pointed beneath him. He struck the monster and tore it apart.

"Fish Beast killed!"

Mike continued falling and crashed onto the sandy ground. An impact crater formed as sand exploded outward. He desperately needed air.

With the last of his strength, Mike leapt forward once more. He barely made it into the air bubble and returned to the city. He landed in front of the arena.

A few knights noticed him. He only heard shouting.

"There! He did it!"

Mike felt the entire arena erupt in cheers. He was carried away, and then he lost consciousness. He did not know for how long.

When Mike thought about it, the monster was not even the real reason for his blackout. It was his own fault. The impact had been too strong. Still, he had done it, and that was what mattered most.

Mike opened his eyes.

He found himself in a blue room. The bed was white. The walls were entirely blue. There were no windows, only a door, which was also blue.

Suddenly, two knights entered the room. They looked at Mike, then stepped aside as if making space for someone else to enter.

There.

A fish citizen stepped forward, but this one was different. He was golden.

Was he rare?

Mike thought there were way too many fish in this place. He rolled his eyes and listened to what the golden fish had to say.

"So…"
