For sure, he could look for a guild to join on his own, but unfortunately, the slave had no memories or anything related to guilds for him to take advantage of. Instead, he should ask someone for help. And Dana was the right one for that.
She might trick him into joining some shady guild; if that happened, he would never ask her again. His trust in her would have dropped. He didn't want to spend time with people who might stab him in the back.
Besides, he was quite confident in the Nameless God's advice, so there wasn't much to worry about.
Dana frowned for a moment after seeing Alaric's confident expression, went quiet for a bit, then finally spoke.
"Give me your phone ID. I'm gonna send you the guild's address."
Alaric flinched in confusion.
"Phone ID?"
Just a moment later, he remembered he didn't even have a phone to begin with. Well, he had been too focused on improving his strength and health, forgetting about everything else. Very bad. The academy also seemed to have forgotten his situation—because he was a slave. Naturally, a slave didn't get an ID card, and of course, a phone was just a luxury to him.
"I-I don't have a phone," Alaric replied awkwardly. "You know. I'm a slave."
Dana sighed and handed her phone to him.
"Take it. From now on, it's yours."
Then she picked up her pace, walking ahead of him, and tossed back her last words before leaving.
"Don't thank me… I've got plenty of those."
Alaric snorted and looked at the phone. It was quite old, looking like a Nokia he had used in his previous world. He supposed his old world had some similarities with this one.
"I should ask the professor to give me an ID card before leaving the academy. I don't want to get caught over some stupid reason and become a slave again."
Soon after, he went straight to the office. Brian held his head as seeing Alaric's situation, then immediately sent a low-tier professor to make an ID card for Alaric as fast as possible.
Even so, it still took Alaric around one day.
When the sun rose, he woke up right away, washed up, then headed to the office building to get his ID card.
Checking the message on the phone, he rubbed his chin.
"Scarlet Fish Guild?"
He shrugged and ran to the academy gate, grabbed a public taxi, and headed toward the center of the city—where the Neonard Clan ruled.
Through the car window, he widened his mouth in shock at the towering buildings. He was certain the Neonard Clan was a literal powerhouse, almost on par with the two legendary clans.
"Damn! Maybe choosing to become a part of the Neonard Clan isn't a bad idea."
After three hours, he finally arrived in front of the Scarlet Fish Guild—a tall building where he couldn't even see the top.
"Damnation, if a guild can be like this, then how tall can a clan be?"
"Seriously, I'm just a tiny fish in the sea."
He stepped forward and entered the building. Once again, his mouth fell open in shock. He kept looking around while wandering like a complete bumpkin. Well, he couldn't deny it—back in his old world, he was just a country boy. Sometimes he only got the chance to visit the city.
Rolling his eyes, he quickly looked for a passerby to ask how to sign a contract with the guild to become a hunter.
The first person called him a hick, and the next one did the same. After about an hour, he finally found a decent man who guided him to the guild attendant.
"Ah, this is so damn embarrassing… I really am a bumpkin."
He glanced around, then finally reached the room where the guild attendant was receiving newbies and hunters.
Eventually, his turn came.
"Welcome to the Scarlet Fish Guild. What can I do for you?" a beautiful attendant greeted him.
Alaric said,
"I want to sign a temporary contract with the guild."
The attendant smiled and asked,
"May I see your ID card? I need to check your information."
Alaric rubbed his chest in relief. Luckily he had gotten his ID card made—otherwise, he had no idea what disaster would've happened.
The attendant took the card, and after a few minutes of checking, she suddenly stammered as if she had seen something terrifying.
"Y-You're Lady Dana's fiancé? …Alaric Jenkins?"
Alaric frowned at her reaction and nodded, confused.
"That's right. What's the problem?"
The girl quickly answered, and her voice was now completely polite.
"O-Of course, sir. That is a big problem. Lady Dana is the master of this guild. If we treat her future husband with any disrespect, she'll fire all of us."
She handed the ID card back to Alaric and said…
"Your number is 1. Please come to Area 10 to determine your hunter rank before taking any tasks."
Alaric frowned, then slowly sighed. He didn't expect things to turn out like this..Dana was the master guild of this place? Well, it was no surprise at all. And honestly, the attendant was overthinking—the relationship between him and Dana was not close enough to make anyone panic about treating him badly.
But whatever. Being treated like a VIP did feel kind of nice.
He headed to Area 10. Most people looked at him with curiosity… but soon enough, their expressions shifted into something negative, like resentment. How could that skeleton-looking guy be treated so well? Of course, it was the curse affecting them.
The examiner—someone in twenties old—looked at Alaric with clear discomfort, yet he still had to act respectful, like Alaric was some VIP. He didn't even know why he felt that way; he rarely showed emotion to anyone.
"Alaric? You'll need to complete 30 exams to get your hunter title before signing the contract."
"Thirty? Are you crazy?" Alaric scowled, but quickly forced down his irritation, trying to think positively. Maybe they were short exams.
"Alright. Let me see the list."
The examiner nodded and showed him the tablet.
A long list appeared, making Alaric frown hard. He looked up—now he was sure those bastards were messing with him.
If he did all these exams, it would take him a week to finish. And he didn't have that kind of time for this trash.
He let out a deep breath and said politely,
"I have some questions."
