CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror

Chapter 45: The Institute

Selina nodded. She looked down to the tattoo on her chest.

"You meant this? I thought it was the power of this tattoo."

Mater shook his small cat's head and meowed.

"It is a Ward of Protection, sure. But that thing needs power to activate. You do have supernatural ability, Selina. You just don't know what it is yet." Aurora translated.

"Supernatural ability... Am I really a Psychic?" Selina mumbled.

"I don't know what a Psychic is, Selina. I have never seen one. But maybe you can find your answer in the Institute."

Mater tapped his paw onto the Dark Grimoire. The book flipped open to Aurora's blank page.

"Aurora will go back to the book now. She is very weak at the moment. I will summon her again to help you construct the Glacial Shrine once we have the cold storage." Aurora turned to Selina and said. "We should go to the Institute first."

The Glacial Wight jumped into the black hole on the book and disappeared into the page.

The Dark Grimoire shut tight.

Mater climbed onto Selina's shoulders. "Let's go."

His fluffy paw pointed to the door.

Selina grabbed the kitty and put it down. "I need to put something respectable first!"

The goth girl ran into the room and shut the door tight.

The black cat sat at the door and scratched on the wooden surface.

"Hey! Let me in! I want to see!" The cat meowed loudly.

"Wait a little bit, Mr. Mater. I'll be done quickly."

"Nooooooo! I want to see!" Mater growled like a cat in heat. Well, he was a cat in heat.

Selina didn't mind him looking. But after conversing with him via Aurora, Selina knew this cat was extremely intelligent. Letting the cat look at her naked body now felt much more embarrassing than before.

The goth girl put on a pair of long pants with wide hem. She had a short cropped blazer on top that barely reached over her ribcage with a very seductive bra underneath. The blazer was buttoned entirely, perfectly concealed her bra and partially showcasing the tattoo on her chest.

Mater froze in place when Selina got out of the door.

"Damn girl!" Mater meowed excitedly. "The people in my world would have burned you on the stake for wearing something like this."

Selina blushed. "What... This is just fashion."

She truly didn't see anything wrong with it. She only saw it as a very attractive outfit.

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you want to call it. Let's go to the Institute." Mater jumped onto Selina's shoulder and pointed to the door.

"Alright. We're going by taxi today. I can't go to the Institute on a bus."

The pair took a taxi to the Institute. The driver did notice the seductive outfit Selina was wearing. His eyes secretly darted her a few times but he didn't dare to say anything.

The little black cat was staring at him at all times.

They quickly arrived at the Institute of Supernatural Phenomenon. It was located in the Main District of Aeliz City, the largest and most crowded place in the surrounding area.

The ISP building was a university and research laboratory. Its main building was a tall cylinder-shape structure with a pointy lighting rod on its roof. From afar, the building looked like a candle.

Selina was a little bit anxious about everything. She stood in front of the building and breathed quickly.

Mater put his hand on the goth girl to calm her down. "There. There. No need to worry. With me here, you have nothing to be scared about."

Selina didn't understand any of his meows. But she knew he was trying to comfort her.

"Thanks, Mater. I just... You know. I don't know much about what happened to my parents. They forced me to have this tattoo on my chest, which attracted many problems.

This examination. I feel like it will reveal many things.

I don't think I am ready for it yet."

Mater meowed and jumped down from Selina.

"We're already here. Can't go back anymore."

The black cat marched in the front and entered the Institute. Selina calmed herself down and followed him.

The front door was a pair of large honey-colored glasses. The lobby inside had a woman standing inside a reception area with a large glass panel separated her from the visitors. The only place they could reach inside was a small square hole under the reception wall.

"Not bad security." Mater thought to himself.

Selina approached the receptionist. "Hello. I am here for an examination."

The receptionist looked up from her computer. Her eyes widened immediately and she dropped the cup of water that was in her hand.

"You... You're alive?"

"Huh? Do I know you?"

"You don't remember me?"

The receptionist was a woman around her thirties with a ponytail behind her head and a pair of glasses. Truthfully, Selina couldn't remember where she had seen her.

"Have we met? This is the first time I come to the Institute. My name is Selina Isles. It should be on the list."

"Isles?! Is your mother Iris Sordenfield?"

Selina's brow furrowed. She nodded.

"I see. You really look like her. Please excuse me for my reaction. I thought you were your mother."

"You know my mother?"

"Yes. We were... acquaintances. You said you are here for an examination, right?"

"That's right."

"Well. Can't say that I am surprised. Your mother is a very talented Psychics.

Ah... I see you on the list. You have a letter of recommendation from Detective Baltimore? He's a very picky guy. I don't know how you manage to impress him."

Selina scratched her head. "Maybe because I helped him with quite a few bounties."

"Oh? Which one did you help him with?"

Right at that moment, the TV on the ceiling was switching to the news about the missing people in NEO Mall. Selina pointed to the screen.

"That one."

The receptionist was surprised again. "I heard that it was solved solely because of one paranormal investigator. Did you solve the case all by yourself?"

Selina shook her head. She picked up the black cat that was just enjoying the drama from the beginning.

"Nope. I didn't do anything. This cat did them all."

"Meow?" The black cat blinked his cute little golden eyes.
