"Mengda Ge'er? Heard of him, a waste who failed on his first mission despite being the Iron War God, I've never met him."
Kuang Shi's face showed a look of disdain.
Jiang Chen fell silent for a moment, not saying anything further, frowning as he watched the burly man in the cage fight the tiger again, a struggling expression emerging in his eyes.
"Dragon King, I know someone from Spa Training Camp, he's also from this batch, should we contact him?" Scar asked softly, tentatively.
Jiang Chen's eyes brightened, and he nodded, "Call him, and ask about Mengda Ge'er's mobile number, or ask him directly if Mengda Ge'er has a twin brother!"
"Yes." Scar replied, taking out his phone to make the call.
Kuang Shi looked at Jiang Chen with a surprised expression, his tone probing, "Do you really know that kid, Mengda Ge'er?"
"You know him?" Jiang Chen frowned and looked at Kuang Shi.
"I do know him, but that was ten years ago." Kuang Shi nodded, then suddenly stiffened, "You know, this guy does look quite a bit like the Mengda Ge'er from back then."
"Hey, Bao Lou, do you know Mengda Ge'er's mobile number?" Scar got through on the phone and spoke softly.
Jiang Chen turned his head to look at Scar, waiting for his response.
"Alright, let me write it down." Scar said, nodding.
Jiang Chen took out his phone, gesturing to Scar.
"Thanks, bro!" Scar recited the mobile number once, then hung up the call.
Jiang Chen dialed the number for Mengda Ge'er.
"Who is it!" A rough voice came from the earpiece, it was Mengda Ge'er.
Jiang Chen spoke in a deep voice, "Mengda Ge'er, it's Jiang Chen."
"Jiang Chen?! What's the matter?" Mengda Ge'er's voice was clearly filled with astonishment.
Jiang Chen glanced at the burly man in the cage and spoke in a low voice, "Mengda Ge'er, I've come across someone who looks very much like you, no, should be almost identical to you. Do you have a twin brother?"
"What? Is it Mengte De'er? You've seen my brother Ta De'er? Where is he?" An agitated exclamation came through the earpiece from Mengda Ge'er.
Jiang Chen glanced at the battle inside the cage and said softly, "Don't get excited just yet. Your brother is not in danger for now, but I can't guarantee what might happen next. Tell me quickly, what's the story with your brother?"
"My brother and I lost contact during a war twelve years ago. I went to Spa Training Camp, and I've been searching for him for these twelve years, but I've never found any clue. What did you mean by danger just now?
Mr. Jiang, if my brother has offended you, please let him off, just let him go. I, Mengda Ge'er, am willing to apologize on his behalf. If he has done something that deserves death, I am willing to die for him. Mr. Jiang, you..."
Mengda Ge'er's voice grew more frantic and louder, and all four people around Jiang Chen could hear him.
Kuang Shi's expression darkened, and his eyes carried a hint of contemplation as he looked at the cage.
"Mengda Ge'er, calm down. Your brother hasn't offended me; he... he isn't under my control right now. I can tell you, but you have to stay calm!"
Jiang Chen was worried that Mengda Ge'er might do something rash in his agitation which might lead to his death because of Jiang Chen's call, and that would trouble his conscience.
"Okay, okay, I won't get worked up, just tell me, what's happened to my brother?" Mengda Ge'er took a deep breath, urging repeatedly.
Jiang Chen hesitated for a moment, then said softly, "His life is hanging by a thread. Wait a moment, I will call you back shortly."
As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Chen hung up the phone.
"You're not planning to intervene now? Didn't you say Mengda Ge'er is your friend?" Kuang Shi's voice was cold as he stared intently at Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen didn't even glance at Kuang Shi, his gaze fixed directly on the iron cage.
Inside the iron cage, Mengte De'er was wrestling with a ferocious tiger on the ground. Mengte De'er's hands were clutching the tiger's neck, while the tiger's paws were embedded in Mengte De'er's abdomen, pinned down by his ribs, leaving the tiger only able to flail its hind legs in an attempt to shake off Mengte De'er.
Seeing Jiang Chen ignoring him, a surge of anger boiled up in Kuang Shi. Just as he was about to bellow out, Jiang Chen's voice preemptively rang out, "Scar, what's the deal with the people joining the fights in the beast arena?"
Understanding the urgency of the situation, Scar quickly began to explain. Xuan Long and Chen Jiantao both had grave expressions, ready to take action at any moment.
Through Scar's explanation, Jiang Chen grasped the situation, his expression turning somewhat unsightly.
There were three forms of animal fights in the Beast Fighting Arena. One was beast versus beast, which didn't take place here but in another larger venue next to it.
Another was human versus beast.
There were two kinds within human versus beast fights, one where the arena's slaves fought the beasts, and the other where someone itchy for a challenge wished to try their hand.
The slaves of the beast arena fighting beasts had to fight to the death; either the person died or the beast perished.
The second kind required a fee to the beast arena, but in case of danger, there would be people nearby to help subdue the beast.
The last one was human versus human fights, where one party was a spectator itching for a fight and the other was a slave of the arena. These battles were called trial fights, and the rules were the same as the second type of human versus beast fight.
A beast fight like Mengte De'er's was clearly the first kind of human versus beast fight, a battle between the arena's slaves and the wild beasts.
Jiang Chen took a deep breath and said solemnly, "Scar, go ask how much it would cost to redeem Mengte De'er. Remember, don't let the staff know that we know Mengte De'er."
"Yes," Scar responded and got up to walk towards one of the staff members.
"What's your relationship with Mengda Ge'er? Don't tell me you are friends; that word has too broad a meaning!" Kuang Shi spoke in a heavy tone.
Jiang Chen continued to stare dead ahead at the iron cage, not turning his head, as a voice of indifference rose from his mouth, "Mengda Ge'er's failed first mission, the target was me, the task was to kill me."
"Hm?" Kuang Shi's brow furrowed tightly, "Do you intend to use Mengda Ge'er's brother as leverage against him?"
Jiang Chen shook his head, "No, Mengda Ge'er is a respectable man. I just want to help him within my abilities, but as for making an enemy out of Dark Night Angel here by taking direct action for his sake, our relationship is not at that level!"
"I understand!" Kuang Shi gave Jiang Chen a profound look and nodded slightly.
Bang!
With a dull thud, Mengte De'er violently hoisted the tiger and slammed its head hard against the ground.
"Aow!"
The tiger cried out in pain, a trace of fear flashing in its eyes.
Crack!
With a crisp snap, Mengte De'er broke the tiger's neck and staggered to his feet.
"Oh!"
"Well done, big guy!"
"Haha! That's a win! Big guy, you get a million-dollar reward! Haha…"
"Bastard! Why don't you just get eaten by the tiger!"
"Damn it, cost me ten million, you go to hell!"
A mix of cheers and curses erupted, signaling the end of a beast fight!
