In the White Rock county of the Tang nation, a small merchant caravan was going from a border town toward the county capital city. The leader of the caravan was a lucky merchant who had managed to create a connection with a big shot from the provincial capital and was invited to become his personal merchant.
For a small merchant like him, it was a very big deal. Not only would he be able to go to the county capital, but he would also be able to earn more money as the personal merchant of a big shot. It was only beneficial for him.
But the road to the county capital was not safe. Many bandits were always active in this area. For that reason he had used the service of the adventurer guild present in the border town to enlist 4 martial artists as his guard.
Not only that he was also lucky as an immortal cultivator also joined him as his guard for a little bit of extra money as that person was also going toward the same direction. So with an immortal cultivator his safety was very much guaranteed.
In the Tang nation, immortal cultivators who had the talent to control elements were more revered than martial artists who mainly strengthen their physical bodies. So having a single immortal cultivator was more assuring than having 4 martial artists.
The immortal cultivator who was travelling with them was wearing a large black clock. He also had a bamboo hat covering his head. On his waist there was a large sword. The merchant would have mistaken him for a martial artist if he had not clad his blade in fire and wind to kill a monster that suddenly attacked them.
At first he was a bit enraged as he had to pay extra for this person and he did not even look like an immortal cultivator. Even tho the adventurer guild had mentioned that this person was definitely an immortal cultivator, it was hard for him to believe it. But after witnessing his strength, the merchant had no more complaints and was feeling lucky that he was able to enlist this person's help.
...
This mysterious immortal cultivator was none other than Elena. She had entered the border town and had enlisted the help of the adventurer guild there to hide her identity. S rank adventurer had this privilege and Elena used that.
With her identity as an S ranker she would not be able to take on most of the jobs which were low level and this part of the nation did not have any threat that would need a S ranker like her. So for that reason Elena decided to hide her identity for a little bit.
After having a few normal adventures, she would go to the nation's capital and then she would once more regain her true identity as Elena. She was also enjoying the little role playing that she was doing as a sword mage or as a sword immortal in this case.
She had been using a voice changing magic to make her voice sound like a man and was acting like a quiet but super powerful hidden boss. Elena did not have any such hobbies but she also enjoyed doing a little fun roleplay now and then.
...
On the third day of the caravan's journey finally bandits attacked it. Elena was getting a little bit sad after not seeing any bandits for also the first half of the journey even tho then should have been very common in this part.
So as soon as she saw the bandits, a hyper excited Elena instantly attacked them. Oh, actually her current name was supposed to be Su Yun. She quickly defeated all the bandits and forced them to lead her to their base. These bandits were not very rich and Elena was able to earn only a few tens of thousands of R and she distributed them among the other adventurers. She was way too rich to care about that little bit of money. But for poor martial artists like them who were not part of any clans, it was a very big favour that Elena gave them so much money. So unknowingly her prestige among the adventurers was becoming sky high.
Among the martial artists, three were men and only one was women. Women martial artists were very rare, so the woman was filling a bit out of place as Elena was also acting like a man. None of the martial artists were a team and were only temporarily teaming up because of this common mission.
Elena was very much enjoying the different atmosphere of the new nation. Even the adventurers acted differently. Normally adventurers were quite friendly to their own kind but here the martial artists all saw each other and competitors and did not have any goodwill among them. As Elena was different from them and did not need the same advancement materials as a mage so she was the only person to have a neutral relation with all parties.
After reaching the county capital, Elena came face to face with a large city that was completely different looking than any of the previous cities that she had visited. She felt like she was back in the ancient periods in her homeworld. The architecture of the city looked majestic and solemn.
Before coming here Elena had only visited small towns and villages of the Tang nation. So it was her first contact with a large city of this culture. After bidding farewell to the merchant Elena started to walk around the city.
In the middle of her walk, she found an inn that was situated in a very well decorated part of the city and she liked the area very much and instantly booked a room in this inn. It was one of the high end inn of this city and not many had the capacity to book a room in this inn.
After checking her room, when she was once more going out to walk around the city, she saw the merchant whose name was Li Xiashen was sitting in the reception of the inn. Founding it curious Elena went toward him.
Li Xiashen did not expect Elena or rather Su Yun to be in this inn. This was a very expensive inn and very few could afford it. He then thought about how strong this mysterious immortal cultivator actually was and found that earning a lot of money should not be very hard for a person of his strength.
So he did not think about it anymore and just told Elena as for why he was here. Actually the person who wanted to hire him as a personal merchant was not a person from this county. He came here from the main capital and was currently staying in this very inn. So Li Xiashen came here to meet him.
While Elena and Xiashen were busy talking a large man approached them. He had a very muscular figure and looked like a high level martial artist. He spoke with the merchant in an overbearing tone -
"My master had heard about your arrival. We will leave for the main Capital after one more month, till then stay put in this capital and do not disturb us anymore. After exactly one month come back here with five hundred thousand R and at least five strong guards. If you can't do even this much then you do not have the capability to become my master's personal merchant. Now get out."
Saying so he went back inside the private part of the inn more with the same arrogant stride.
"Oh, so this was the master whom you wanted to serve brother Xiashen. He did not look like a good master to me."
Li Xiashen smiled self deprecatingly and said -
"He is a big shot from the main capital and I'm only a lowly merchant. How can I compare to him ? It is my great fortune that someone as great as him is giving me a chance."
"Do you have five hundred thousand R with you ? And what about the five strong guards, how much more strong they needed to be ? Do you have any ideas ?"
Hearing Elena's questions Li Xiashen's face turned red. He still replied -
"I only have about three hundred thousand R with me if I'm willing to sell everything I have. But I still have one more month and I will try to gather the remaining money within this period. And as for the guards I will also try to gather some of the strongest men of this city. That should be enough, right ?"
Saying so he did not wait for Elena to reply and quickly left the inn. She did not say anything and just shook her head. She had read the mind of that arrogant large person and he did not have any good intention toward this somewhat honest merchant who just wanted a better life. But she did not do anything to stop it and just made a decision to keep an eye on things. Then she once more got immersed in the exotic beauty of this city.
