Chapter 338: Ch 338: Dalia's Trial

As soon as Elena returned, she met up with both her partners and encouraged them to go fulfill their dreams. And finally it was Dalia's time to fulfill hers. But as she was very close to her dreams, she did not want to lose and focus and do something stupid. So she was extra focused.

Her last opponent in this journey was going to be a plant creature which was unable to move. Most of the opponents that Dalia had chosen in her journey were mostly creatures who were weak to fire. Obviously because she was good at using fire magic.

As Dalia was fighting opponents with a higher level than herself, she needed some kind advantage to have any chance of winning. Fighting and winning against a stronger opponent was not child's play. She needed to use various strategies to get her to a very advantageous position to increase her chance of winning.

So the plant creature she was going to face today was at level 301. It had just reached the third rank and actually Dalia was close by when it got to that level. There were several reasons why she chose this creature as there were a few others who were actually even a little bit weaker than it.

This particular creature was unable to move just like any other plant. That was normally not a problem for it as it had a very big range with the root tentacles. So no enemy was just able to hit it from the outside of its range. Dalia had a solution to this and she had developed a new spell which had a greater range compared to this tree.

For this spell, she was going to create a bow and arrow with specialised fire magic and then she would combine a wind magic spell with it to make it go further. That was she was able to barely make it to have a greater range than the tree.

But this spell was not strong enough to kill this tree with an extreme level of vitality. So to finish it off, Dalia did need to get closer, but still she would still be able to weaken it by quite a bit with her fire arrows. Then she just needed to get it range and hit it with her strongest fire spell. She was confident that it should be enough to finish it off.

...

So Dalia started the fight in her planned method. She first started to shoot the tree with fire arrows after fire arrows for a long time. She only stopped when her mana had gone down by quite a bit and she needed the remaining amount of mana to cast her big spell.

So, now she quickly started to advance toward the tree while having her final spell ready. She did not just charge toward it like a bull but actually used a protective item on her before closing the distance while being as careful as possible.

Just as she got close to the spot from where she would be able to release the spell, a tree root shot out from beneath the ground. Dalia was able to dodge it at the very last moment only because she was very cautious about things like that happening. She was not going to underestimate a stronger opponent and die in a worthless way.

Then just as Dalia was about to release the spell, another vine shot out that looked very different from other vines. And it gave a very dreadful feeling to Dalia. She felt that if she was hit by that, there was a very high chance of her dying. If she wanted to get away from it she needed to cancel the activation of her current spell and dodge.

But Dalia bit her lip and held on. She released her spell and almost immediately the vine pierced her. Her defensive artifact was able to block it for a fraction of a second and Dalia was able to use that time to shift her body a little bit and was able to protect her vital organs from getting damaged badly.

Even then, it was not enough. There was a reason why Dalia was scared of this vine. As soon as it entered the insides of her body, it spread some kind of thin membrane like things inside her to parasitize her body. It was sucking her vitality away.

The only reason why Dalia allowed this vine to hit her was because she had expected that the main plant creature to die from her spell. Then even if she was pierced, it would not be too big of a deal. But unfortunately Dalia had no idea that this plant lifeform had a skill that allowed it to survive with one HP when it was on the verge of death. Dalia had investigated this plant thoroughly but as the plant was never on the verge of death, she had no way to know about this skill. It was all just a bad, bad luck.

Dalia was feeling that she was about to die. As this plant was stronger than her and she was hit with one it's strongest attacks, Dalia was in a very bad situation. But she could not just give up like some pitiful damsel in distress. She was a brave, powerful person. She wanted to prove to her big sister Elena that she had not some pathetic girl who would lose her heart when she was on the verge of death.

So she mastered up the last bit of her mana and willpower to cast a spell. It was not anything spectacular but just a simple fireball. The most basic spells she had learned. She was unable to see anything and her sense of direction was also going haywire.

In this situation, she focused on the vine and tried to sense where her vitality was flowing to. Then she targeted that particular location and threw the spell with all her might. Obviously the tree creature tried to block it, but this spell turned out to be just strong enough to break through all the vine barriers and an amber hit the main body of the tree. And that was enough to get rid of the last bit of HP for this plant creature.

But this creature did not go down without any struggle. When it was sure that its demise was inevitable, it broke the connection with the vine that was piercing Dalia and let it explode while it was still inside her. Dalia was already on the edge and this was enough to give her the last push. Dalia died but she died only after ensuring her victory.

...

While Dalia was having her life and death battle, Eldriana was having a sparring match against another dark elvin brawler she had met inside the ruins. This girl's named Ashley was actually a rank four powerhouse and she was very impressed with Dalia when she saw her defeating a stronger opponent. They then quickly became good friends and now they were each other's training partners.

Just as Eldriana was talking with Ashley, she suddenly felt very empty and sad. As if she had lost someone important. Before she could understand the situation, she saw the red gem pendant glowing on her chest suddenly dimmed and broke. This pendant was given to her by Dalia and it had a wisp of her soul inside it. So it's breaking signified just one thing. Eldriana was unable to take the shock and fainted. Her heart was still not strong enough to easily accept the death of another person that she loved and was close with.
