The giants were not the only protector of the gate of the Valhalla. Having the opportunity to guard the door was something that all the divine blessed races would kill for, so it was impossible for the giants to monopolise this privilege.
But the giants had actually managed to do just that for a decently long period of time. And the means they used to do that was their incredible power. In the last 10 thousand years or so, the giants had taken care of the gates of the Valhalla for more than 7000 years. That was the reason why the giants had became synonymous with the guardian of the gates of Valhalla.
The gods had created a method to select the guardian race for the gates. And that method was direct combat between the young generation of the races. Other than the giants, the dragon race, the Devil Beast race, the Diabolus race and many more took part in this competition.
In that competition, the powerhouses from each race who were the strongest below the demigod rank fought it out. And the giants had managed to win this competition several times in a row. There were a few times when they lost, but then the younger generation of the giants had trained super hard and had managed to turn the tables in the next competition.
While talking about the competition, Escora proudly told Elena that several thousands of years ago, she had also won two such competitions back to back and had became the most famous young powerhouse of the giant face. Hearing all this Elena became even more interested and started asking her more questions.
First she asked her about how many demigods did the giants had. And the answer she got was shocking. According to Escora, the giants at least had 65 demigods and there were probably more she was not aware of as she was quite young. This number sounded very high but when Elena was told that all the giants of this world were living in this area and were not allowed to go out most of the time, she found that the number did not look that astonishing anymore.
...
While telling Elena about these things, Escora started to feel a lot better. Her tiredness and injuries had almost completely healed and her MP had also recovered by quite a bit. So she a bit reluctantly removed her head from Elena's soft and heavenly thighs. Then she asked Elena why she was here.
As Elena was not from a race that were candidates for the guandianship, she thought that she had already ascended previously. There was no way someone as strong as her had not still visited the upper relams. And if she had already visited the upper realms, then she should have no reason to come here. That was because Elysium and Valhalla had gates connecting each other. That was why she was curious why someone as strong as Elena was here.
Elena did not beat around the bush and told her that she was here to use the gate. This made Escora extremely surprised and she asked why she was not using the gates located in Elysium. Hearing this, Elena immediately used her powers to research this subject a bit and for the first time learnt about the existence of the gates connecting those two relams. It looked like, after going to Valhalla, if she wanted, she could directly go to Elysium from their without the need to go through another door in the mortal world. She also learnt why Escora looked so surprised after hearing her reason for being here.
Telling Escora about her real identity and about how a esteemed high goddess was her fan girl was very troublesome, so Elena just made up a story that she was in the vampire continent when she got a sudden news that she needed to visit Valhalla. So as the gate of Valhalla was closer to her, she came here. What Elena said was technically true and Escora also easily believed this.
But then she made a troubled expression and told Elena that even if she had went to the upper realm before, she still needed to complete the trials to go through the gates of Valhalla. Even with her strength, she would not be an exception as that was the rules set by the gods.
Seeing her troubled expression, Elena became curious and asked if the trials were hard even for her. Hearing the question, Escora shook her head and told Elena that to not be the case. With Elena's strength, she should not have any trouble passing the test. But the trial process was quite long and time consuming. That was the reason why Escora was feeling troubled.
Elena laughed out loud hearing that and told Escora to not worry. She assured her that she was not in a hurry. So it was fine for her to take the trial like any other participants and the giants did not need to worry about giving her special treatment. Hearing that Escora felt relieved and told Elena that she would be her guide while she was in the depths of the Ikrovi Wasteland.
...
Soon Elena and Escora found themselves in front of a large barrier that was separating the deepest part of the Ikrovi Wasteland from the shallow regions. Elena checked out the barrier and found it to be quite interesting. Seeing her interest, Escora started to tell her all about the barrier.
This Barrier was not created by the giants or any of the other races who lived in the deepest part of the Ikrovi Wasteland. It was actually created by the gods themselves. This barrier was impenetrable by anyone whose level was below 390 but anyone above that level could easily go through the barrier.
This barrier not only stopped weak people from outside to go inside, but it also stopped people lower than that level to come out of the barrier. That was the main reason why Escora had to come out to guard the city even when no challenger was present. Weaker members of her race were not able to come out to take her place and stronger members were all busy with different duties. That was the reason why she had to stay in the city for several thousands of years. She was now able to return only because Elena had appeared as a trial participant.
...
Elena and Escora had already entered the barrier while they were talking. But even before walking for a few minutes, they heard a sudden loud roar. Then the figure of a giant green dragon appeared before both of them. Not only that but the green dragon also had several figure on its back. The green dragon was looking at Escora with hostility but instead of looking like the hostility of a monster, this hostility looked more like the jealousy of a familiar person. So Elena did not immediately attacked the dragon and instead started to observe with amazement what this was all about.
So who was this dragon and who were the people on it's back ?
