Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 113 Beidou Demon Book

Do we even need to guess? Just by his reaction, you can tell he's stumbled upon a treasure.

But how can such a bracelet be considered a treasure?

Shi Chun didn't understand and grabbed it to examine directly. It was a wide, flattened bracelet with a color hard to distinguish under the purple flame. It was carved with the sun, moon, stars, mountains, and rivers, featuring an ancient and seemingly effortless craftsmanship.

Seeing his puzzled expression, Wu Jinliang excitedly suggested, "Why don't you cast a spell to probe inside?"

Shi Chun glanced at him and did as suggested, only to feel his mana enter an immense void. He stumbled upon a vast space, which startled him and made him quickly retreat, staring in astonishment at Wu Jinliang and wondering, "What is this?"

Wu Jinliang replied with excitement, "What else could it be? It contains a cosmos within. The legendary 'Qiankun Bracelet', even more advanced than the 'Qiankun Bag'. Look at the size of the space inside; it's huge, incredible! This is not just any 'Qiankun Bracelet'—this is definitely something only a truly significant figure could possess. We're rich, indeed! Our journey was not in vain."

Shi Chun glanced into the pitch-dark cavern, "Found inside?"

"Come here," Wu Jinliang gestured for him to follow inside.

Entering the door, they were met with a screen wall. As they walked around it, they discovered a spacious hall carved from the stone walls, complete with a raised throne at the end, atop three-tiered steps, and a broad seat upon which it seemed someone was sitting.

Shi Chun was still in doubt when Wu Jinliang had already hopped onto the throne and illuminated the seated figure.

It was not a person at all but seemed to be... something unidentifiable. Shi Chun leaned in for a closer look but didn't recognize it.

It resembled a big, fluffy rat, emaciated to the bone, which they couldn't identify despite their experience.

Its withered body lay with closed eyes, sharp fangs protruding from the shriveled corners of its mouth, claws sharp and dark, and its fur glossy. Even under the purple flame, one could tell its fur was golden. It looked like a demon cultivator in meditative transformation.

Originally clothed in human garments, it had shrunken much after transformation, causing its clothes to slide down to the base.

Wu Jinliang pointed to the creature's wrist, "It was taken off its hand."

Given the placement of the seat, this must be the true master of the place. Shi Chun inspected the throne more closely, then looked around the hall, hoping to discern the master's identity or find a clue to an exit passage, but to no avail.

It was Wu Jinliang who reminded him, "Check what's inside the bracelet."

So Shi Chun cast a spell to probe again. Initially, he had only sensed the vastness of the space, but a more careful inspection almost caused him to break out in a sweat. He finally acknowledged what Wu Jinliang had said before; this was definitely something meant for significant figures because he was not worthy of using it!

The reason was simple; the range of his cultivation's probe was limited, whereas the space inside was too vast.

It was more than vast; it was practically a world unto itself, far surpassing Qiankun Bags and Bracelets they had heard of, ones that could hold this or that. This wasn't just about the number of things you could store. You would have to ask how many mountains could be housed inside; only then would you truly appreciate the meaning of a Qiankun Bracelet.

It was a fantastic item—so fantastic that it was exaggerated and beyond his control.

Eventually worn out, he opened his eyes, wiped off the cold sweat, and tossed the Qiankun Bracelet to Wu Jinliang, "The space inside is too vast, and probing it is too exhausting. I can't handle it. You continue; I need to take some medicine to recover."

"I see..." Wu Jinliang thought for a moment, then shook the bracelet as if trying to empty its contents onto the ground, following a spellcasting method he had heard of, "No need to look anymore, just pour everything out."

Shi Chun was startled and cried out, "Stop!"

But it was too late; Wu Jinliang had indeed dumped an item out. It nearly struck their feet, causing them both to jump away in alarm.

It was a chest.

Wu Jinliang, puzzled, asked, "What's wrong?"

Shi Chun said with trepidation, "Have you lost your mind? The space inside is excessively large; who knows how much it contains. In this tiny space, if you poured everything out, wouldn't you be afraid of burying us alive?"

After saying this, Wu Jinliang was also badly frightened and, with a look of lingering fear, pointed at the chest, "All that came out was this chest."

"Just this chest?" Shi Chun was dumbstruck.

Wu Jinliang nodded, "Just this chest."

Shi Chun was speechless. Such an enormous storage space for just a single chest? What an outrageous waste.

He immediately flipped the lock and, stepping to the side, slowly lifted the chest's lid. When he completely opened it, there appeared to be no danger.

The two drew closer to examine, and the first thing that caught their eye was a pitch-black tome, roughly a foot square. Bathed in the purple flame's glow, it gave off an eerie sensation, emblazoned with four bold blood-red characters.

Wu Jinliang, with a tilted head, read aloud, "Beidou Demon Book..."

Then, looking up, he asked, "What's this anyway?"

"How should I know?" Shi Chun rolled her eyes and lightly touched the cover. Unsure of the material, she gently opened it to black pages that were much thinner, covered in tiny, densely packed characters engraved into the surface. The engravings were filled with some red substance that emanated a sinister charm.

Despite the crispness of the font, it evoked a sense of bloodshed.

Flipping further, they found illustrations. As cultivators themselves, after a careful examination they understood that this was a cultivation method, but not meant for humans—instead, for demons. It was of no use to either of them, but some of the content appeared quite enigmatic.

Having quickly skimmed through and finding it useless, they closed the book and picked up a jade slip beside it, also engraved with characters, for a closer look.

It read: "I am Jin Zhan, trapped here for over a thousand years, nearly driven to madness. Knowing my lifespan nears its end, I leave this message with regret. Should a destined one come across this, please deliver the 'Beidou Demon Book' to the descendants of the Jin family in Juku State, at Golden Que Mountain. If the world has changed and no descendant can be found, let the Demon Book manage itself. The wealth within this chest should be left to fate. Should a descendant manage to cultivate the Demon Book, a great reward awaits. For those who've stumbled here by accident, I have gathered many of their lost possessions; these, along with my life's savings, are hidden in wealth beneath a mural. Jin family kin who cultivate the Demon Book can use its magic to reveal this treasure. If descendants find the treasure, they may take three items. The rest shall reward he who helps them leave this place; should one be able to exit, no concern for broken promises by my kin is needed. For those who enter by accident, should there be no hope to leave, please do not destroy my belongings. If you carry regrets or unfulfilled wishes, you may leave a record here. Should a Jin descendant see it, they will fulfill them on your behalf."

After reading it all, Shi Chun and her companion faced each other, their hearts already half cold.

As for any hidden treasure, it was already the furthest thing from their mind, not to mention that it wasn't something they could find; it was only possible for those who could leave.

Right now, how to leave was the big problem. Someone had been trapped here for over a thousand years and couldn't exit. What did that imply?

Firstly, being trapped here for a thousand years already indicated terrifying cultivation.

The lifespan of Initial Martial varied from person to person. High Martial could live up to 150 years. Human Immortals could reach 300 years, Earth Immortals 800 years, and Heavenly Immortals 3,000 years.

This Jin Zhan, being stuck here for more than a thousand years, suggested he was a master of the Heavenly Immortal realm.

Such a master, unable to find a way out after over a thousand years—how could they not feel chilled to the bone?

Now, forget treasure or the Qiankun Bracelet; even if offered a great beauty, Wu Jinliang wouldn't be interested at all.

"Wasn't it the Sky Rain Meteor Conference? How did we end up here? Chun Tian, we've only been out of prison for a few days, now we're locked up in a death cell again?" Wu Jinliang looked utterly disconsolate.

Shi Chun had no reply, but she still gave him encouragement, pointing to her right eye, "Not necessarily."

Wu Jinliang's spirit immediately lifted, as he nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes, yes, Chun Tian, that's the spirit. You can't give up."

It had always been so; as long as their Master did not give up, he still had confidence.

Shi Chun looked at the other side of the jade slip, which bore no content. She tried to sense it with her magic, finding nothing of note, and casually tossed it onto the Demon Book, before picking up a golden command arrow, half a foot in length, with patterns engraved on it similar to those on the surrounding walls. Its purpose was unclear.

The message didn't mention this object. After examining and probing it with magic, she suddenly exclaimed, discovering there was more to it—seeming like a magic artifact, she attempted to trigger whatever mysterious force was within it with her mana.

Suddenly, a buzzing sound rang in their ears. A burst of golden light radiated from the command arrow, forming a golden wave-like sphere that enveloped them.

Just as Wu Jinliang, who was sorting through a stack of banknotes, looked up in astonishment and asked, "What's this?"

Shi Chun shook her head; she didn't know.

Wu Jinliang immediately held up his large saber and tried poking the spherical barrier; the saber easily went in and out without any sensation.

He set down the saber and tried poking it with the banknotes in his hand, still feeling nothing. Then, with his fingertips, and again no feeling. Next, he stepped out to try and still felt nothing. Finally, he jumped around inside the golden wave without sensing anything unusual.

But when Shi Chun withdrew her magical support, the golden sphere suddenly collapsed and vanished.

After releasing and retracting it several times, and finding no discernible purpose, although knowing it must be useful for something, they simply set it aside. Along with the entire Demon Book, they moved it out of the chest.

No other items remained inside the chest besides stacks of banknotes that Wu Jinliang had fished out.

He examined one of the stacks, noticing the material was extraordinary. The complex imagery seemed all-encompassing, incomprehensible, yet conveyed a clear message, as "Six Realms Universal Currency" was written on it, along with a value of "one million."

Wu Jinliang, already counting the quantity of a single stack, looked up and announced, "Exactly one hundred notes, meaning one stack is a hundred million."

Shi Chun glanced at the number of stacks in the chest, "There must be a few hundred stacks, right? So they're giving us tens of billions?"

"Sounds like a lot," muttered Wu Jinliang, utterly bewildered as he waved the stack in his hand, "The question is, from which era is this old demon, and does the wealth in this chest refer to these?"
