Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 212: Destined Tonight

The secret medicine formula was an eye-blocking skill? Bian Weiyin was initially baffled, but upon further reflection, she realized that it was not only possible, but highly likely.

Leading the coveters in the wrong direction, it suddenly dawned on her that she had been led into a misunderstanding all these years. Could her research focus have been wrong?

One word from you woke up the dreamer.

Bian Weiyin gave Shi Chun a few more glances, unsure whether it was admiration or reward in her eyes; after all, it wasn't a fact, just Shi Chun's conjecture.

She suddenly grabbed Shi Chun's arm, pulling him from under the eaves into the house where they could speak privately. In a low voice, she asked, "Are you sure the talisman paper is enhanced by a special cultivation technique?"

Shi Chun instinctively raised his hand to block her as she came close, thinking she was going to babble, only to realize he had misunderstood, which also drew a disdainful glare from her. He quickly nodded and said softly, "I am fairly certain."

"Special cultivation technique..." Bian Weiyin began to pace back and forth, her index finger repeatedly scraping across her smooth forehead as she muttered relentlessly, "There's no such special cultivation technique. Everyone practices the cultivation techniques inherited from Wukang Mountain, differing only in depth. What special cultivation technique can there be?"

Shi Chun asked, "Could it be that no one else has cultivated the Wukang Mountain's techniques to the realms of your grandfather and father?"

He suspected that perhaps the technique becomes profound enough at certain levels to be performed.

However, Bian Weiyin shook her head, "It's certain that they are not like my grandfather, and among the elders, at least two have a deeper realm than my father."

Seeing her deep in thought, Shi Chun sighed ruefully, "Since it's a secret technique, it's normal for you not to know if they don't show it. It will probably be secretly passed on to Bian Weikang eventually. By keeping such a transmission secret, along with the eye-blocking disguise, it would indeed be difficult for outsiders to discern any clues."

As he said this, he remembered the scene his superpower in the right eye had shown him—the Bian family was too deceitful; even hidden away in a secret room, they still played tricks with potion soaking. Even if someone were spying covertly, they were likely to be misled, potentially forever deceived.

He was running out of time, intending to suggest to Bian Weiyin to let go a bit, when he suddenly noticed that Bian Weiyin's reaction seemed off, as if she was petrified, just staring blankly.

Unbeknownst to her, it was his words that had reminded her.

He reached out and patted her lower back, asking, "What's wrong?"

Bian Weiyin slowly turned to look at him, muttering, "Passing it on to my brother..."

Shi Chun spread his hands, "Isn't that obvious? Once your brother takes over the position of Sect Master, it will definitely be passed on to him."

Bian Weiyin's expression was dazed, "Could it have already been passed to him, and even he doesn't know? Could it have been when he was very young, thus ensuring among the three generations, as long as one survives, the secret technique won't be lost..."

Shi Chun was visibly moved, knowing her topic directly pointed to an incident from Bian Weikang's childhood, he couldn't help asking, "Did you discover something when you were little?"

Bian Weiyin's thoughts drifted far, "I must have been under ten at the time. A curious incident happened that left a deep impression on me...

Once, my brother went out with grandfather; they seemed to be playing in the mountains. When they returned, his body was covered in insect bites.

I asked my brother what happened; he secretly told me that while playing in the mountain, grandfather caught some insects to roast and eat and taught him a technique that attracted insects making it easy to catch them. Unfortunately, it also attracted a lot of mosquitoes, resulting in his bites.

Grandfather was embarrassed and told him that if his parents found out, they would blame him for not acting his age. So he asked my brother not to tell anyone, to just say that there were many insects in the mountains. My brother shared this fun secret with me and asked me not to tell anyone, to avoid upsetting our parents and grandfather.

In our eyes, grandfather held a lot of prestige in Wukang Mountain, and if he said not to say anything, we wouldn't dare embarrass him.

Years have passed in the blink of an eye, and if you hadn't mentioned it, I might have completely forgotten it."

Shi Chun uttered an understanding sigh, thoughtfully saying, "In that case, if your brother didn't break his promise, your grandfather's actions at that time were indeed peculiar."

The two exchanged looks silently for a while, as if communicating without words.

After a long pause, Shi Chun added, "If indeed that technique is the secret technique, it's quite possible that your brother doesn't know that the technique had already been passed to him; this can also be considered a form of secrecy, merely waiting for the right moment to activate."

Without his reminder, Bian Weiyin was well aware that if her brother didn't know, she might still be able to extract this technique from him. But if he did know, he would definitely not tell her in order to maintain secrecy.

She emerged from the secluded spot, looking out the window at the sky, murmuring, "The entire Wukang Mountain is busy at this time; running to the prison now would arouse suspicion. I'll go after sunrise."

Then she turned back to Shi Chun, "Isn't it, once tested, all will be known?"

Shi Chun kept silent, uncertain if he could wait for the day the results would manifest.

Lost in thought, he suddenly felt a tug on his wrist as Bian Weiyin pulled him back into the house.

Upon entering and closing the door, Shi Chun realized he was in Bian Weiyin's boudoir, which was quite spacious, divided into inner and outer rooms with a hanging curtain separating them.

As he worried that this woman was again testing his will by acting impulsively, he saw Bian Weiyin beckoning with a finger, thinking she was about to whisper something. As he leaned in, she wrapped her arms around his neck and got entangled once again, proceeding with the kissing.

Their directions unclear, they stumbled and fumbled, inadvertently passing through the curtain, and both tumbled onto the bed in the boudoir, where the kissing finally ceased.

Looking down at the man beneath her, Bian Weiyin's eyes were bright and sparkling, filled with affection and watery, her breath uneven.

Shi Chun's breathing also turned erratic, his emotions stirred by that prolonged kiss.

But he felt that continuing this way was not suitable; surely trouble would ensue. Matters of men and women were not new to him; it wasn't as if he was inexperienced, only that his heart belonged to another, and unlike Wu Jinliang, he did not indulge his desires recklessly.

He was just about to rise and pull away, but Weiying anticipated his movement and quickly pinned his shoulders. Their eyes locked, making it clear that she didn't want him to get up.

He was indeed inferior to Weiying in terms of sheer cultivation and strength.

If Weiying didn't want him to rise, it would be difficult to do so without physically fighting her, which seemed unnecessary and excessive.

Shi Chun offered a bitter smile, "Lord Bian, there are quite a few servants here, and my lingering in your chambers could lead to suspicions that might tarnish your reputation."

"You know better, or do I? The heavens displayed a spectacular phenomenon for three hours, which will keep everyone on Wukang Mountain busy. No one will be free to bother us tonight until perhaps noon tomorrow," Weiying replied.

Shi Chun thought for a moment and then said, "I need to leave."

"I know, no need to say it every time," Weiying responded.

Shi Chun thought to himself, What do you know?

He knew best that once the Demon Path approved his plan, neither love nor hate could wash away the bloodshed on Wukang Mountain, or the deep-seated grudges and affections.

He was not a gentleman unswayed by desires; he was just not deceitful to the heart.

"Let's just be friends," Shi Chun sighed.

"Being friends doesn't get in the way," Weiying said as she leaned in to kiss him again.

Before her lips could touch him, Shi Chun placed his hands on her chest—not taking advantage but simply pushing her away gently, a gesture he realized he had unconsciously made too many times before. He asked, "Are you sure you won't regret this?"

Weiying shook her head slightly, "It's destined tonight."

It was as if she blamed fate itself.

Their eyes met again; then, Shi Chun freed one hand to touch her hairpin, pulling it out and tossing it aside with a clink. As her hair cascaded down like a waterfall, he seized the collar of her garment and tore it open in a swift, bold move, revealing the dark hue of her hair against the stark whiteness of her features.

Perhaps his will had finally broken, or maybe there was another reason.

A buzzing filled Weiying's head as she trembled and pulled his head into her chilly embrace.

Both became entangled, letting go of all restraint, their clothes scattering about.

In the heat of the moment, they did not notice the door open.

Huixing entered the room and witnessed the fervent union behind the curtain, her shock turning into trembling anger.

She had just recently feigned concern for her daughter's well-being to confirm her virginity, and now, such a scene unfolded.

What infuriated her most was the identity of the man—he had killed her direct disciple!

And she knew very well that this man was destined to be expelled from Wukang Mountain, the man who loved her son's woman, and now he was with her daughter.

She wanted to scream in rage, but ultimately she left without making a scene to avoid shaming her daughter.

Only when dawn began to break did Shi Chun hurriedly climb out from the warm, fragrant embrace, hastily dressing and leaving, feeling foolish for allowing himself to be seduced. If he were caught by Wukang Mountain, what then?

Seeing his panicky demeanor, Weiying couldn't help but burst into laughter, her face beaming.

She did not see him off; overwhelmed by his vigorous aura, she simply didn't have the strength.

Sneaking out, Shi Chun breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing hardly anyone around and quickly left towards the rising sun.

Yet, he didn't notice Huixing, hidden behind a pillar on the first floor, staring darkly at him.

Elder Yin was furious, hating his brash confidence to spend the night in her daughter's room on Wukang Mountain and leave at dawn, leaving her anxious about being discovered.

"Where have you been all night?"

Worried for someone's safety and restless all night, Wu Jinliang loitered at the entrance of the Punishment Court until he saw Shi Chun return, finally greeting him with relief.

After speaking, he sniffed the air, his nose twitching like that of a dog; he detected the scent of a woman and his mouth cracked into a grin.

How could such a robust fellow be so troublesome? Shi Chun pushed him away with a slap to his face and strode back to his quarters, ignoring others who greeted him along the way.

By noon, with the morning's activities barely concluded, more important visitors arrived.

The Domain Office had sent someone to confirm the location for Xun Gate; the allocation plan for the Xun Gate in Shengshen Continent had been decided, and Domain Master Wei Mo was a man of his word—the construction of the first gate would start at the base of Wukang Mountain.

The sect's senior members accompanied the guests and specifically called on four who had attended the Sky Rain Meteor Conference to join them on a trip to Lankang City.

Weiying, feeling unwell and even wishing to delay her scheduled visit to the prison, did not want to participate, but had no choice. Occasionally, she cast resentful glances at the person who had discomforted her during their journey.

By comparing him with Xiang Laner and observing her suddenly radiant complexion, Wu Jinliang immediately understood who was involved the night before, frequently snickering covertly, making Shi Chun feel even more frustrated about how to face what came next.
