Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 218: As Expected

Just like when Weiying visited the prison previously, seeing someone approach, Weikang rushed to the bars, banging and shaking them.

Unable to speak, and with no one else speaking, being confined alone like this made him feel that even if there wasn't an issue, he might go mad.

Reacting just as he had with Weiying, he again pointed to his mouth, making gestures.

Xia Fuli was not in a hurry. He spoke calmly, "If you stay quiet and don't cause a fuss, I will release you and even help you escape. If you're impulsive and noisy, then you'll stay here. It's your choice."

Hearing that he could be taken away, Weikang's eyes gleamed with excitement and he nodded repeatedly while waving his hands.

Thus, Xia Fuli lifted his hand and pointed through the air. Weikang's throat relaxed at once, and he found his voice, "Elder Xia, I won't make noise, I won't cause trouble, please let me out."

Xia Fuli said solemnly, "After the disgraceful acts of Xiang Laner and Shi Chun came to light, I'm sure you can guess what your father's attitude would be. He's actually pleased because he disapproves of your relationship with Xiang Laner due to her background. I came to tell you that Shi Chun and Xiang Laner have just left Wukang Mountain and have officially departed..."

Weikang's eyes widened in despair. Just as he was about to speak, Xia Fuli's finger gesture of warning forced him to suppress his emotions, though he still pleaded with a trembling voice, "Elder Xia, let me out, please let me out."

Xia Fuli stated, "I came precisely to take you out. Honestly, I think your father's handling of this is inappropriate. I believe you should see Xiang Laner and Shi Chun one last time to clarify things properly."

Weikang nodded vigorously, agreeing that this was right.

Xia Fuli took a set of clothes from the Qiankun Bag and threw it in, "You can't meet people in your current clothes, nor can you meet Xiang Laner. Hurry and change. If we leave now, I can help you catch up to them."

Weikang was anxious, "No need to change, I don't mind."

Xia Fuli spoke gravely, "Change! No matter how rushed, you can't lose your dignity. You're the young master of Wukang Mountain! If you don't change, you won't leave." After speaking, he turned to walk away.

Weikang quickly relented, urgently saying, "I'll change, Elder Xia, I'll change."

Xia Fuli stopped and turned back, hands behind his back, waiting. Seeing Weikang hurriedly dressed and seemed done, he pointed at his hair. Weikang, not daring to defy, quickly tidied his hair and finally made himself presentable.

Seeing him thus prepared, Xia Fuli then took out the keys to the cell.

In fact, the keys had been personally taken by Jixiong, meaning no one was permitted to release the prisoner. However, Xia Fuli produced another key that could open the lock, showing that this Elder of Wukang Mountain was truly resourceful after many years there.

The lock opened, the door too, and just like that, the man was set free.

The two walked out of the prison gate, stunning the two guards at the entrance who thought they were seeing things.

The guards hastily stepped forward to block their path, one nervously said, "Elder, this, this, Junior Master Bian isn't allowed to leave."

Xia Fuli shook the keys in his hand, "Am I staging a jailbreak? I told you the Sect Master sent me. Do I look like I'm lying? I have matters to attend to with him, and I'll bring him back later. Relax, back off, I've got everything under control," and with a wave of his hand, he indicated for them to move aside.

Since the guards were his men, they had no choice but to step aside obediently.

Xia Fuli, with the man in tow, walked through Wukang Mountain nonchalantly without avoiding anyone, and the few they occasionally met, bowed to Xia Fuli. No one suspected him, although seeing Weikang did raise some eyebrows.

Thus, the two descended from Wukang Mountain openly and righteously.

Upon reaching the mountain's base, under the watchful eyes of the mountain gate guards, Xia Fuli, pulling Weikang's arm, soared into the sky.

After they moved a bit further, Weikang just managed to speak, "Elder Xia…"

Then, there was no more sound, as Xia Fuli had rendered him unconscious.

In the distant mountains and rivers, they eventually landed on a mountain where a man in green was waiting for them.

"Mr. Qing." Xia Fuli bowed respectfully.

The man in green reached out to check on the unconscious Weikang, confirming the person, and that he was still alive, then asked, "Are you sure Bian Que will find his way here?"

Xia Fuli replied, "On this journey, although I took a couple of detours, I'm fairly certain that the people who saw me, engaged in stone seeking and quarrying for the Xun Gate, would be able to trace their way here, as I saw them, and they should be able to find this direction."

He had planned to act today not merely coincidentally but based on his understanding of the conditions on Wukang Mountain.

The man in green voiced his concern, "I'm just worried something unexpected will happen, worried that Bian Que won't find his way here."

Xia Fuli assured, "Rest assured, Mr. Qing, I know Huixin quite well. Once she's informed, I can even guess what she will do. She'll run to the prison to confirm the situation, then hurry to tell Bian Que, claiming she went to check on her son when she found out her son was taken away by me. She won't broadcast that I informed her to take her son away.

With Jixiong not on the mountain, I'm uncertain if she'll go to Jixiong first, but she will definitely turn to Bian Que first. She knows even Jixiong might not be a match for me, so for her son's safety, asking Bian Que to take action is inevitable.

And Bian Que, upon hearing the news, will surely take action. He may seem indifferent to that grandson but actually treasures him dearly. Ostensibly, it looks like Jixiong's family matter, but in reality, Que has always had his hand in it; this much I'm very aware of."

The man in green looked at Weikang, who Xia held, "If there are no issues, proceed as planned. Send the message to Huixin."

"Alright." Xia Fuli took out the Talisman for Mother and Son and sent the message to Huixin.

Up on Wukang Mountain, inside a simple hut with sandalwood fragrance, Huixin retrieved the Talisman for Mother and Son. She was very familiar with the characters corresponding to Xia Fuli; it clearly read, "Only a daughter can hold the position of Sect Master on Wukang Mountain. I have taken your son, and henceforth you will not see him."

"What does this mean?" Huixing, slightly startled, immediately sprang up in alarm and hurried to leave. Yet, when she reached the main gate, she paused and composed herself. Although frantic on the inside, she maintained a calm demeanor outwardly.

She repeatedly pondered in her mind, if this were true, why would Xia Fuli do this at this time? Was it really just for his daughter?

The guards in the prison had no personnel overseeing them; two disciple guards were idly passing time when they suddenly saw Elder Yin descend gracefully, scaring them into hastily bowing, "Greetings, Elder Yin."

Huixing said expressionlessly, "Open the door, I'm going to see Weikang."

The two disciple guards looked at each other; afterwards, one of them said, "Junior Master Bian left with Elder Xia not long ago."

Huixing angrily reprimanded, "Nonsense, open the door!"

She was determined to verify the truth.

The disciples didn't dare hinder her and quickly opened the door to let her in.

Huixing hurried to her son's holding cell, but saw no one there. Upon spotting the tattered clothes on the floor, her face darkened, and she quickly turned and vanished in a flash before the two guards.

After landing outside the prison pit, she flew straight to a nearby high point where a disciple on duty was stationed and inquired if anyone had seen Xia Fuli leaving.

The guard had indeed seen them, and from the guard's explanation, she learned that Xia Fuli had taken Weikang and left directly towards the mountain gate. She rapidly headed to that area and again confirmed that Xia Fuli had taken Weikang and flown away; even the direction was pointed out to her.

Xia Fuli's transmitted message was confirmed, and she indeed felt a bit panicked.

Since Xia Fuli had taken off high into the distance, said his goodbyes once, and then returned, she had been secretly monitoring him. Wasn't he supposed to go down the mountain with Bian Jixiong to scout for locations? How could she have overlooked something like this?

On one hand, she worried about her son's safety; on another, she fretted that sending someone after them would expose her secret affair with Xia Fuli.

After careful reflection, she realized that given Xia Fuli's concerns for his daughter's safety, he probably wouldn't reveal their affair, as it would implicate his own daughter. Thus, she resolutely flew back up the mountain, heading straight for the Sect's Forbidden Land...

Atop the mountain, Xia Fuli took out a parent-sub charm and, after reading the content, a complex expression crossed his eyes as he said to the person in green next to him, "As expected, Huixing went to the Sect's Forbidden Land where Bian Que is in seclusion."

He had deep connections at Wu Kang Mountain, so arranging for such informants was not a problem.

The person in green nodded slightly, glancing at the unconscious Weikang lying on the ground, "I'm not sure if fighting will cause any mishaps; he's still a hostage for now. You take him first to meet up with Feng Chi and others. Someone will come later to support you."

"Okay." Xia Fuli acknowledged the order and picked up the unconscious Weikang, flying away directly.

As Huixing neared the Sect's Forbidden Land, she suddenly stopped, recalling Shi Chun, and remembered that Shi Chun and Xia Fuli seemed to be in cahoots—the parent-sub charm that Xia Fuli secretly carried was obtained from Shi Chun. Even if they weren't allied, there had been recent collusion between the two, and likely some inside knowledge was shared.

Most importantly, she remembered Shi Chun's previous words, allowing her to contact him anytime there was an issue.

At the time, it hadn't seemed significant—other than Weiying's situation, what could possibly compel her to seek him out?

She contacted him using the parent-sub charm due to Weiying's matter.

Now in retrospect, Shi Chun's words seemed pointed.

Without further hesitation, she quickly rummaged through her Qiankun Bag, took out the parent-sub charm linked to Shi Chun, and urgently sent out a message for information...

Deep within the vast mountains, on a solitary cliff resembling a lone blade, long plants adorned the cliff like tufts of hair. Shi Chun and his group were hiding here.

After waiting for quite a while, Shi Chun spoke up, "What are we waiting for here?"

Feng Chi: "I don't know, just following orders to wait here."

Wu Jinliang muttered, "Waiting for the rendezvous, what else."

Considering the future, he suddenly felt a sense of confusion. The elusive and secretive nature of the Demon Path made him feel as though the path ahead was narrow.

Suddenly, Xiang Laner pulled out a parent-sub charm to check the transmitted message and furrowed her brows after reading it.

Feng Chi noticed her reaction and asked, "What's wrong?"

Xiang Laner: "'Nightingale' is asking where we are, should I tell him?"

Feng Chi understood her hesitation, "The plan is made by him; he should know this place."

Xiang Laner then replied: We have already arrived.

Shi Chun, who was listening intently, speculated from the mentioned plan who the so-called "Nightingale" might be, and if he wasn't mistaken, for a grown man to choose such a flamboyant alias was somewhat amusing.

Not just him, even Wu Jinliang couldn't help but smirk, evidently guessing as well.

Shi Chun plucked a blade of grass and put it in his mouth, a hint of contemplation in his eyes. Once the plan commenced, Weikang had disappeared; he wondered if Huixing, upon discovering this, would contact him...

Suddenly startled, then casually pacing, he used the broad frame of a tall man for cover and also slipped out a parent-sub charm to sneak a peek, finding it indeed to be a case of thinking of the devil and he appears—the message from Huixing had arrived.
