Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 221: I'll Go Save Someone

"Is it Bian Que? Will he kill Xia Fuli?"

"They probably won't. To figure out the undercover agents within Wukang Mountain, they would keep even the ruthless ones from the Demon Path on the mountain. So, they would keep Xia Fuli alive to be of use; it would be unreasonable to kill him without questioning him first."

Moreover, he had already announced that they needed to take a living captor, which they were likely able to manage.

Both Feng Chi and Xiang Laner, shocked as they were, turned their heads in unison towards Shi Chun, who was hiding behind them, their expressions quite complex. Fortunately, they had listened to him; otherwise, they would have walked straight into a trap.

They were lucky to have such a person by their side; otherwise, the two of them would have had no chance of avoiding this calamity.

The two women could probably understand how formidable he was at the Sky Rain Meteor Conference, just by his alertness alone, which was unmatched by them.

A strange luster appeared in Feng Chi's eyes.

The admiration the two women had for him rubbed off on Wu Jinliang as well.

Wu Jinliang wondered inwardly how Chun Tian managed to do it but casually shrugged his shoulders on the surface, happily accepting the women's admiration.

Meanwhile, Shi Chun, who was hidden behind him, bowed his head and pulled out a mother-and-child charm to look at it; the message from Yin Huixing had come through: Bian Que's whereabouts were unknown.

Shi Chun thought to himself that not knowing was good, and quickly sent back a perfunctory reply: "Understood."

He did not want to say more. Now that Bian Que had arrived, Elder Yin's role could be temporarily put aside.

There was no time to deal with Elder Yin right now.

Hidden amidst the woods atop Gure Mountain's cliff, holding Weikang as a hostage, Xia Fuli cowered amongst the plants, looking up at the sky, too scared to even breathe heavily.

Bian Que's sudden appearance had truly terrified him.

He had quietly taken out a mother-and-child charm and quickly sent out a distress signal: "Bian Que is at the rendezvous point. Come quickly to rescue me."

The person in green hiding in another part of the forest looked at the charm he had taken out and was a bit baffled. How could Bian Que possibly appear at the "Nightingale" meeting place?

He had just been informed from above that Bian Que was coming and to be ready.

Which side should he listen to? Obviously, he should heed the instructions from above.

But, what if there was an error in the message from above? What if the situation as described by "Nightingale" was true?

The person in green replied: "Are you joking?"

Xia Fuli became anxious, replying: "I could mistake anyone else, but not Bian Que. He's right above me, come save me now!"

After sending this message, he dared not make any further movements and gripped Weikang tightly, as if clinging to a lifeline, his cultivation evident, a cold sweat breaking out on his forehead despite his efforts.

The person in green quickly contacted those above to report the situation and also quickly reached out to Feng Chi to ask what was going on at the meeting place.

No one knew what reaction the upper echelons had upon seeing the message, but Feng Chi's urgent response came first: "Bian Que is here, come quickly to the rescue!"

She was also frightened. Facing a master like Bian Que, she dared not move recklessly and could only hide motionless.

Even though there was some distance between the two sides, any significant movement would not escape Bian Que's pursuit and assassination.

Bian Que, who had slowly descended into the forest, surveyed his surroundings with a cold gaze, not seeing anyone. Suddenly, powerful mana fluctuations spread out, enveloping the entire mountain peak as it reverberated, sensing every blade of grass and tree in the vicinity.

Xia Fuli, feeling the mana fluctuations, looked pitiful, knowing he was doomed, but still clung to the last thread of hope, staying as motionless as a rock, hoping that Bian Que would be misled and fail to detect him.

But reality was cruel. The mana fluctuations quickly converged on his location, and Bian Que coldly turned his head to look.

His gaze was like a sword cutting through waves, and the powerful mana pushed through along his line of sight, parting the grass and pressing down trees, instantly revealing Xia Fuli, who had been hiding behind them.

Feng Chi and the others hiding on the other side, seeing such activity atop Gure Mountain, knew "Nightingale" was in dire trouble. Having captured Bian Que's grandson and being caught by Bian Que, it would be strange if things turned out well.

Bian Que spotted his grandson at a glance, his Dharma Eye narrowed, seeing that he was still breathing, he breathed a sigh of relief, glad his decision to trust Shi Chun and run over here was correct. This meant that the piece of information from the other side was indeed problematic.

Xia Fuli quickly placed the unconscious Weikang in front of him, so nervous that even his eyelids were sweaty.

Bian Que's gaze shot toward the masked kidnapper like lightning, and he thrust two fingers forward like a spear, the forceful mana bursting out with a thundering roar.

Xia Fuli was startled and desperately cast spells to defend himself; no matter how much he exerted his cultivation, he could not resist, and the headscarf and mask on his head were torn apart as if swept by a raging current, revealing the true face of Elder Xia from Wukang Mountain.

Seeing that it was indeed him, Bian Que let out a snort of cold laughter.

Having confirmed that the people responding were Xia Fuli and his grandson, Bian Que was reassured. There were no traps here, indicating that Shi Chun had no knowledge of his true identity up to now, grateful for his own clever disguise. Otherwise, such an unexpected gain would not have been possible, and he also sneered at the double-dealing before his eyes.

His brow twitched slightly, and he took out a mother-and-child charm single-handedly, only to see the message: "Where are you?"

Bian Que replied single-handedly: "I have found the person."

The other side responded with a single word: "Good."

On the other side, the person in green hiding in the forest hesitated and suddenly looked at the mother-and-child charm in his hand. The content read: "Bian Que is at Nightingale's side, head over quickly."

Swish, the obstructing branches shattered, and the man in green didn't have time to think about what happened before he disappeared into the treetops, rapidly moving away.

"Now that I've shown my true face," Xia Fuli warned with a bob of his Adam's apple, "take one more step, and I'll kill him immediately!"

His heart wailed, wondering why the reinforcements hadn't arrived yet.

Demonic Qi also surged rapidly from his body, wrapping around the unconscious Bian Weikang, intending to strengthen the hostage situation.

"Hmph," Bian Que let out another cold laugh, and suddenly swung his hand in a palm strike that thundered through the skies like rolling thunder.

The vegetation atop Gure Mountain was mowed down as if swept by a razor, crumbling and scattering, the debris falling into the valley below.

Behind Bian Que, the vegetation remained untouched, but in front of his palm, it was instantaneously cleared away.

Xia Fuli's Demonic Qi was shattered, and he was flung backward as if struck by a heavy blow, arms flailing. Blood gushed from his nose and mouth as if his orifices had collapsed, his face a mask of misery and panic. Eventually, his legs gave out with the sound of breaking bones, and he collapsed to the ground, gasping sharply and briefly.

However, the unconscious Bian Weikang in front of him suffered no harm and remained in a deep sleep.

With a flick of his fingers, Bian Que summoned Bian Weikang to fly over and fall into his arms. After personally inspecting him for injuries and finding him unharmed, he woke him up.

Upon awakening, Bian Weikang immediately saw the person before him and quickly stood up straight to greet him, "Grandfather."

Looking around and realizing something was amiss, and upon seeing Xia Fuli's pitiful state, he exclaimed in shock and quickly begged, "Grandfather, you can't blame Elder Xia for this, it was I who forced him to take me away. If there's a punishment, punish me instead." With that, he knelt down with a thud.

Bian Que shook his head at him and said, "Foolish child, when will you learn?"

His words had barely finished when he suddenly turned back to see a figure breaking through the air towards him, startling him. Swathing his white robe in a sweeping motion, he scooped up his grandson and yanked his arm, catapulting themselves away.

A figure in green appeared momentarily at the mountain peak like a dragonfly touching water, glanced at the severely wounded Xia Fuli without intervening, and shot off, his voice echoing through the mountains, "Now that you've come, don't even think about leaving."

The fleeing Bian Que immediately took out an immobilization charm, sending a message for help in the blink of an eye.

An expert's movement revealed everything, and by the speed at which the man in green appeared, he knew that the man's cultivation was stronger than his own. Without calling for help, he had no chance.

In the next moment, as he passed between two mountains, his hands moved like a knife through tofu, effortlessly shearing off part of a great mountain and with a backward motion, hurled the massive peak at his pursuer.

The man in green didn't change direction and slammed his palm into the mountain. The mountain instantly perforated, and a mass of earth and stone surged like a colossal pillar towards Bian Que on the other side of the mountain.

Bian Que pulled his panic-stricken grandson out of the way of the collision and took to the sky with great speed.

The great mountain crashed into the range, sending ripples of smoke and shockwaves that shook the earth.

Shi Chun and others hidden in the shadows felt the violent shaking of the ground and were terrified, especially Shi Chun and Wu Jinliang, who had never seen such earth-shattering combat prowess before.

Before the mountain even struck the earth, the man in green's figure had passed through the perforated mountain and continued to chase upward, as if reaching for the heavens.

Bian Que, looking back in mid-air, patted his Qiankun Bag and, with a wave of his sleeve, chopped with a palm through the distance.

The man in green, about to be caught, deflected the incoming palm power with his arm, undeterred, and continued his pursuit when suddenly, his body lurched and his complexion changed subtly. He felt an intense pressure rapidly increasing. By the time he tried to shake off this immense pressure, he realized he was unable to move.

This sudden standstill led Shi Chun to realize something as he promptly activated his superpower in his right eye. Suddenly, he saw a massive tangle of faintly blue tendrils wrapped around the man in green, amassed with an unimaginable amount of indigo-colored substance, squeezing and immobilizing him.

Had an immobilization charm been cast? It seemed that Bian Que had not used an immobilization charm.

"Watch closely, an immobilization skill comparable to a Fifth Grade Immobilization Talisman!" Bian Que boasted to his grandson, seemingly teaching him something, then tossed his grandson away, "You go first, hurry!"

Free of the burden and with hands now available, he surged towards the man in green and sent out a full-strength palm strike through the air.

"Pfft!"

The strike hit the man in green, who spat out a mouthful of blood, and at the same time, a burst of Black flame erupted from his body. As soon as the Black flame appeared, it instantly broke free from the immobilization skill's restraint.

Bian Que, apparently unsurprised by this, showed a ferocious expression and charged headlong into the fray, as if determined to fight to the death.

Upon engaging, he realized that the opponent's cultivation was one realm higher than his own. If he couldn't restrain the man with this skill similar to a Fifth Grade Immobilization Talisman, his chance of escape was slim. The grandfather and grandson could only hope that one of them would manage to flee.

He wanted to lock down the man in green, buying his grandson some time to escape. If he could stall until reinforcements arrived, the grandson would be out of danger, otherwise, neither would make it.

Observing with his right-eye superpower, Shi Chun spoke up, "You all retreat too, I'm going to rescue him."

The situation had become somewhat uncontrollable, and there was no time to lose; decisions needed to be made swiftly. All this effort couldn't be in vain.

He had already clutched the Wind Scale in his hand, leaped towards the summit of Gure Mountain, grabbed Xia Fuli, and as they took off, the Wind Scale enveloped them, swiftly carrying them away.

Xia Fuli, being taken away, looked gratefully at Shi Chun.

Feng Chi and Xiang Laner, however, were somewhat shocked. The battle was still undecided, and yet he dared to reveal himself? Were others' lives more important, or their own?

Wu Jinliang, however, understood Shi Chun's intentions. With Bian Que having thrown his grandson aside, even if he won and saw someone else lurking, his first priority would be to ensure his grandson's safety, not to chase after them.

But he was speechless, knowing that what Shi Chun was doing wasn't simply rescuing, but that if Shi Chun intervened, it might well end up killing Xia Fuli for good.

Understanding the need to work together, he quickly took out the Wind Scale and gestured to the two women, "Follow me."

He intended to lead the two women away first, to prevent them from following in the direction of Shi Chun's escape.
