Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 229 Immovable as a Mountain

Shi Chun hurried to the desk, glanced at the four characters on it, and knew that the matter was secure. He then quickly and carefully stored the inscription.

He did not linger, for he had nothing in common with Wei Mo and nothing to discuss.

Having received what he came for and expressed his gratitude, he then took his leave.

With a wave of his hand, Wei Mo had someone escort Shi Chun away.

Watching Shi Chun's departing figure for a while, Wei Mo too turned and left...

Atop Wukang Mountain, even though they knew that the Jieyun Mountain party came with ill intentions, as the new Sect Leader, Bian Weiyin still personally went to the steps to welcome them.

Several elders appeared beside her as well.

Before coming, the elders repeatedly instructed Bian Weiyin not to act impulsively, and preferably to resolve conflicts peacefully or at least avoid deepening any offenses.

Led by Wu Handong, the Jieyun Mountain group ascended the mountain with a self-assured air, as guests yet oddly awaiting the host to greet them first.

Despite some displeasure, Bian Weiyin and the others still proactively advanced to greet them, "Elder Wu."

Wu Handong sized her up, "Bian Weiyin, Sect Leader Bian, I underestimated you last time in the capital; you've swiftly become the Sect Master of Wu Kang Mountain. Bai Shuchuan, you must be quite familiar with Sect Leader Bian, right?"

From behind, a familiar figure appeared immediately; who else could it be but Bai Shuchuan?

Gone was his disheveled appearance from when Young Master Nan had knocked out his teeth; now, he stood there as suave as ever.

However, his words were not as pleasant, addressing Bian Weiyin directly by her name, "Bian Weiyin, we meet again so soon."

His tone lacked the basic respect due to a sect leader.

In fact, in his heart, he truly did not regard Bian Weiyin seriously; back in the West Pole, she was merely his subordinate and at his beck and call.

Knowing that they had come to stir trouble at Wu Kang Mountain, he saw no need for niceties.

For Bian Weiyin, being addressed by her name was not too hard to accept; she forced a slight smile, "Brother Bai is here, too."

Bai Shuchuan immediately turned to Wu Handong and said, "Elder, I am indeed very familiar with Sect Leader Bian. Back in the West Pole, we were constant companions, and to outsiders, we appeared akin to husband and wife. If not for some later mishap causing us to lose contact, we would have already settled down as lovers in the West Pole."

Upon hearing this, the faces of the Wu Kang Mountain party drastically changed.

They had just ascended the mountain, just had a meeting, and had not even settled down, and already such words were spoken; what did they mean by this?

A disciple of the dignified Jieyun Mountain, lacking even the most basic decency under the public's eye—if they claimed it was not instigated, they wouldn't believe it.

The Wu Kang Mountain party internally felt a sense of dread.

No matter how much restraint they exercised, Bian Weiyin could not stay silent, her face stern as she rebuked, "Bai Shuchuan, please show some respect!"

Bai Shuchuan chuckled, "Did I say anything wrong? Back in the West Pole, didn't you always follow right behind me? Everyone could clearly see in the mirrors of the Heavenly Mirror."

Yin Huixin furiously scolded, "Impudent!"

Wu Handong immediately interjected, "Children's squabbles, elders need not take it seriously. If I'm not mistaken, I met this lady in the capital last time; it's the recently widowed Elder Yin, right?"

Yin Huixin, struggling to contain her displeasure, responded, "Indeed."

Someone from Jieyun Mountain immediately joked with a laugh, "There's a rumor that you and Elder Xia from your sect are in an affair; I wonder if it's true or not?"

It was the first time someone had said this directly to her face, and Yin Huixin's face turned green.

The Wu Kang Mountain party was even more furious.

Yet before they could erupt, Wu Handong sharply rebuked his own people, "Impudence!"

Turning back to the Wu Kang Mountain party, he spoke, "Don't mind them; when we return, I'll handle them. My friends, surely you won't make us just stand here and talk, right?"

Fighting her fury, Bian Weiyin managed, "Please, come this way."

She personally escorted them to the assembly hall of the Sect.

Throughout the way, disciples of Wu Kang Mountain stopped to watch.

Once they entered the assembly hall and guests and hosts were seated with tea served, Bian Weiyin addressed the issue directly, "Elder Wu has personally led people to Wu Kang Mountain, may I know your purpose?"

It was inevitable, so better to face it head-on.

Wu Handong raised his hand pointing to Bai Shuchuan behind him, "It's not for anything but this matter of these young people. I recently heard that Sect Leader Bian is seeking a mate, and this kid Bai Shuchuan got anxious the moment he heard it, saying he took a fancy to you back in West Pole, and he'll marry no one but you, even to the point of dying for it. Afterwards, our Jieyun Mountain discussed it and thought it wasn't a bad thing, good for both Wu Kang Mountain and Jieyun Mountain. So I came personally to mediate."

The way it was said,

a mere disciple marrying our Sect Master, how could they even say that?

Anyway, the Wu Kang Mountain party was left feeling uncomfortable, noticing that since ascending the mountain, Jieyun Mountain had not said a single good word.

Some elders secretly blamed Yin Huixin and her son for causing a mess with the Sect Master's marriage selection, stirring up a lot of noise, and now look what it had led to.

Bian Weiyin outright denied, "Elder Wu, you have been misled by rumors; there's no such thing. As the Sect Master of Wu Kang Mountain, I would not marry outside."

Wu Handong chuckled, "As the leader of a sect, you indeed can't marry out; Sect Leader Bian, rest assured, after the marriage you would still stay here, and let Bai Shuchuan move in, so you have a helper, and Bai Shuchuan can still offer you advice on matters."

Bian Weiyin replied, "Elder Wu, he and I are not suitable; it's better not to bring this up again."

Wu Handong stated, "Since you insist on saying so, and since we can't talk about feelings, then I will no longer hide the truth. To put it nicely, I came to help find a match; to be blunt, I came for a marriage alliance between our two sects.
