Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 283: That Damn Sense of Wealthiness

Shi Chun, like An Wuzhi, had his other hand ready, grabbing the faint silver-blue flame as it fully emerged.

Everyone watched expectantly at their feet, and the result did not disappoint them; the fifth flame really did appear.

It emerged weakly and in a struggling manner, unable to speed up after breaking free, which made Shi Chun wonder if it had anything to do with the numerous "Demon Dispel Hands" he had employed against it.

It gave the impression that these frail Divine Fires had but one purpose: to escape the body of the Ice Jiao, oblivious to the presence of the onlookers, either unaware or indifferent.

Once the fifth flame floated out, An Wuzhi controlled the gathered Divine Fire in one hand and reached out to grab another.

Those who had been tricked by him several times couldn't help but give him a few extra glances, their eyes seeming to speak, conveying a message like, "You like Divine Fire so much, right? Now that you've grabbed three in one go, are you satisfied?"

An Wuzhi understood their thoughts and said with a wry smile, "My friends, it's not that I'm greedy, but it would be a waste not to take them. Besides, as long as one can fully absorb one flame of the same type, that's enough. Absorbing more of the same kind is useless and a complete waste. I'm grabbing these for Zhu Xiangxin and the brothers of the Four Cauldron Sect."

In the presence of his own people, Shi Chun reminded them, "It's fine to give to Zhu Xiangxin, but forget about the Four Cauldron Sect. Remember, they may look amiable but their hearts are not with us. They are not our kind, unless they discover it themselves. Otherwise, we won't give them even one."

He muttered to himself that giving it to the Demon Path was the real waste.

Even though he considered himself a person of the Demon Path.

"What should we do with these extra ones?" An Wuzhi asked blankly, looking at the ones in his hand and then at those in Tong Mingshan's. There were only three of them here, and they had more than they could use.

Before, they were desperate because they couldn't get any, but now they were troubled because they had too many, cursed with an excess of riches.

Chu Jingtang shook his head and sighed.

"It's all caught, nothing to worry about now." Wu Jinliang shook off Chu Jingtang's grasping arm. It was dull just watching from a distance—better to get in there with a saber for some excitement.

Shen Moming did the same, brushing off Chu Jingtang's hand and moved closer out of curiosity.

In his life, he had never experienced anything as dangerous and bizarre as this. What was difficult for others to find even once, here they were, troubled by an abundance of it—where was the justice in that?

Taking a glance around, Chu Jingtang also looked at the slowly closing clouds above and, seeing no further trouble, joined the others.

The Ice Jiao, which had previously been terrifying, was now the surface upon which a group of people roamed.

But, to err on the side of caution, Chu Jingtang still couldn't help but ask, "Master, how long can this immobilization charm keep this monster in check?"

"If everything goes normally, it should hold for half an hour," Wu Jinliang, answering in place of the preoccupied Shi Chun, noticed something off about Shi Chun, who continued to gaze at the ground beneath them.

Soon enough, everyone understood what was happening, their eyes widening as they saw another faint silver-blue flame flicker out from the Ice Jiao.

"Ah, there's more?" Chu Jingtang exclaimed in surprise.

"Weren't there just five?" An Wuzhi also expressed his astonishment.

Shi Chun said, "It's possible that Gu Lianni and the others could escape because they used the Divine Fire in their hands as bait."

They were not fools and understood the implication immediately. The Wind Scales did not have the flight speed of the Ice Jiao; if they could escape, the reason mentioned by the Master was very likely.

Tong Mingshan ventured, "So, does that mean that all the Divine Fire inside this Ice Jiao came from its own consumption?"

Shi Chun replied, "Perhaps, we can't know for sure; these things won't tell us."

So be it. Aiming for fairness, Tong Mingshan also concentrated the Divine Fires into one hand, preparing to seize another should the opportunity arise.

What was peculiar was that this flame, unlike the rest, seemed startled by their conversation, or perhaps fearful, and suddenly withdrew back into the body of the Ice Jiao.

It seemed livelier than the other flames, its movements clearly more spirited.

"Wow," everyone showed a surprised reaction.

Shi Chun, using his right eye's superpower, saw that the Divine Fire was moving to another location within the Ice Jiao, seemingly trying to escape in a different direction. Shi Chun naturally wouldn't let it go easily. Although they had more than they could use, it was still Divine Fire, the very purpose of their journey; how could he let it slip away?

He quickly lit a stick of incense without revealing his X-ray ability to the crowd.

Fire God Incense appeared, and most of the group showed great interest.

"What is that?" Wu Jinliang was puzzled, for he had never seen Shi Chun use it before.

Soon, they noticed that the smoke from the burning incense was giving directions; then Shi Chun followed the trail with the rest in tow. Wu Jinliang, scratching his cheeks, suddenly understood and let out a chuckle.

After being partners for so long, he got it; sometimes, you know exactly what's coming next with just a hint.

Yet Shen Moming didn't understand and asked him, "Brother Jinliang, what's that in the Master's hand?"

Wu Jinliang chuckled and replied, "Just keep watching and you'll understand."

He knew what trick was being played but didn't know what name Shi Chun had given it; he was afraid that if he got it wrong, it would lead to unnecessary complications.

However, based on his understanding of Shi Chun, given their habits, they wouldn't come up with anything too sophisticated and meaningful. It's not that they didn't want to have meaning, but some things couldn't hide their inherent shallowness—simple and functional was always their style.

He guessed it was either called "Fire God Incense" or "Divine Fire Incense."

When that elusive Divine Fire showed up again, just to be blocked by Shi Chun in time, Shen Moming had an epiphany, understood, and was also surprised. There was actually such a treasure; it seemed that the master had come fully prepared for this journey to the Divine Fire Domain!

No sooner had the Divine Fire appeared and spotted someone than it quickly retreated back into the body of the Ice Jiao.

Thus began a game of hide-and-seek where everyone tried to corner and trap the Divine Fire.

An Wuzhi and Tong Mingshan had both landed on the ground to wait, guarding against the possibility that the Divine Fire might slip away underneath.

If the Divine Fire dared to hide in one section and not come out, the pursuers would immediately start digging with their tools, frightening the Divine Fire into running all over again.

After this repeated game of hide-and-seek, the surface of the Ice Jiao was left pockmarked and uneven.

And the net of tendrils that bound the surface of the Ice Jiao had also been burned full of holes by the Divine Fire that kept running around and popping up everywhere.

When they felt thumping from underneath their feet, Shi Chun looked around in all directions, and after assessing the extent of damage to the immobilization material with his special right eye ability, he suddenly shouted urgently, "Stop what you're doing and get out of here!"

No sooner had he finished speaking than everyone was about to scramble for their Wind Scales to escape when an overwhelming floral rain appeared.

It burst open and sprayed into the sky, like witnessing a mighty river breaching its banks, spraying countless fine sparks, like a surging torrent that threatened to sweep them away, accompanied by endless cold. Everyone was so suddenly trapped they couldn't even twist their bodies before they found themselves unable to move.

They then realized they had been encased in ice.

Shi Chun had experience with being frozen and had the Demon Power Protection from the Bath Demon Skill. He was trying to break out the old way; however, after several thumping attempts to break free, the sounds made it feel as if he were buried deep in the ocean.

The solid feedback from the impacts made him realize that all efforts were futile; he really was trapped in the ice.

Yet he was not very panicked because he had people.

Struggling in the predicament, he tried to move his head as much as possible to observe his surroundings.

The ice in front of him was very clear because he saw two pale silver-blue Divine Fires drifting by; one of them was very large, about three feet tall, and a smaller one followed behind it, meandering into the darkness and disappearing from everyone's sight.

Shi Chun periodically punched the ice, creating a thumping sound, sending out audible signals.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before a red light rose from below, and Tong Mingshan, enveloped in Chi Yan, swiftly melted through the ice, demonstrating the benefits of absorbing the Divine Fire.

The fire-melting ability of the Divine Fire Red Flame should not be underestimated; it quickly freed their master.

Shi Chun made a sound with his magic underwater, "Quick, find them! Don't worry about me; I'll follow you."

"Ok," replied Tong Mingshan and speedily made way with the Divine Fire Red Flame, searching everywhere with Shi Chun following behind.

Not long after they left, the melted water swiftly recongealed into ice.

Finding the others wasn't too hard. Although the frozen ones couldn't speak, they all managed to send out loud grunts from their throats to signal, which spared Shi Chun from having to reveal his eye superpower.

In no time, the frozen group from Mingshan Sect was all accounted for. Tong Mingshan led from the front and An Wuzhi, who also practiced Fire Attribute Skill, brought up the rear, they proceeded diagonally upwards.

Because no matter how large an ice mountain pressed down upon them, angling upwards was always the quickest escape route.

They walked for a very long time without finding an exit, which made everyone begin to doubt if they had taken a wrong turn. Under Shi Chun's insistence, the group maintained their course and continued to climb upwards.

It wasn't until they broke through the ice and stood amidst the bleak mountain wind that they realized, as they faced the vast stars above and the endless clouds below, what the disintegration of the Ice Jiao truly meant.

The disintegration of one Ice Jiao had turned into countless high peaks of the Ice Field, completely altering the terrain of the vast expanse.

The scene was truly heart-stirring, unimaginable to anyone who had not witnessed it firsthand.

"One two three four five..." Wu Jinliang counted the number of Divine Fires in An Wuzhi's and Tong Mingshan's hands before exclaiming in amazement, "Eh, none are missing. I thought I saw two more Divine Fires inside the ice, one very large. Could it be that I saw things?"

Tong Mingshan said, "I saw them too. I wanted to chase them, but couldn't catch up. Their speed in regular ice is very fast."

Chu Jingtang stroked his beard, "I saw them too. Five of them, plus two more—my word, seven in total. Tell me, Sect Master, don't you artifact refining sects say that Divine Fires are hard to find? And you claim there's only one per region; here we found so many it's more than we can grasp with both hands."

Wu Jinliang said, "Chun Tian, given the massive scale of these interconnected ice mountains, even if Xu Anzhang and his people died underneath, even if they had some powerful magical treasures, with our current strength it's likely that we won't be able to find them easily."

Yet Shi Chun looked towards Shen Moming and asked, "I've been meaning to ask, why did you come here? Is there something going on?"

Shen Moming simply reminded them, "I discovered traces of the 'Qianyan Sect'."

Upon hearing this, Wu Jinliang looked at Shi Chun. He was well aware that this was one of the two Demon Path sects that Shi Chun had previously asked him to scout for.
