Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 318: Lonely Woman

They stopped, and so did the followers from various sects, either landing or hovering in the air, still watching them closely.

Shi Chun and the Shudao Mountain group had gotten used to being followed, and there was really nothing they could do about the Artifact Refining Sect group—if they chased, the others would run; if they walked, the others would follow.

Their purpose here was to shake off those annoying people.

They had found that invisible safety boundary, and after Gu Lianne and a few leading figures huddled and whispered for a while, they once again spread out their formation and made a temporary breakthrough of the dangerous boundary, continuing forward.

No sooner had they moved than Wu Shanshan's group from Forget Love Valley landed exactly where they had gathered and landed moments before, not just her group, but some from other sects, too. They all noticed something unusual about the Shudao Mountain group and were curious about what Shi Chun and his group had been looking at or observing here.

However, these people couldn't discern anything from their observation; it wasn't due to the lack of light, but rather not knowing the reason that they were mystified.

The ancestors of Shudao Mountain had discovered the secret of this boundary somewhat accidentally—the right moment of observation had led to verification and confirmation of what this so-called safe boundary was.

Jin Hao, with his scarred face, softly asked his fellow disciples, "Were Shi Chun and the others looking at something here just now?"

Lin Yuefang, with his nose resembling a badly pierced hole, hesitated, "I didn't see anything special here, and it's possible that Shi Chun and his group were just stopping here to meet and discuss things."

Wu Shanshan interrupted, "Alright, whatever it is, let's follow first, if we dawdle, we won't even see their shadows."

The Forget Love Valley group quickly took off again, as did some other sects.

They hadn't looked closely or had the time to do so, eager to keep up with Shudao Mountain's group.

Though tense throughout the journey, having followed all along without encountering any danger, the people from various sects became curious beyond their nervousness, thinking that this so-called Forbidden Land might not be as dangerous as the legends suggested.

Legends spoke of many instances of Divine Fire within the Forbidden Land, which slightly warmed some hearts against the cold, dark winds they faced while flying.

Having entered the truly dangerous area, the Shudao Mountain group ventured slightly deeper then dared not proceed; the bloody lessons learned by their ancestors made them cautious. They began adjusting their flight direction, estimating the position of the invisible boundary, and flying around it.

They were prepared to fly out of the boundary at the first sign of danger.

However, to their perplexity, after flying along the invisible boundary for quite some time, they still had not encountered any danger.

Their plan was, should they encounter danger, the surrounding groups from various sects would naturally flee in chaos, allowing them an opportunity to escape.

Unable to venture deeper, they could only estimate the position of the boundary and continue flying along its approximate location.

To facilitate triggering any potential dangers, they even lowered their flying altitude.

Thus, they soon noticed some abnormalities.

"We found a woman."

On the right side of their spread-out flying formation, also towards the outside of the invisible boundary, word was passed along to Gu Lianne and her central group.

What did it mean by "found a woman"? With so many sects tangled together, was finding a woman really something unusual that needed to be specifically reported?

The message sounded unusual, but under their current flying conditions, brief messages like this were all they could manage.

Shi Chun and Wu Jinliang looked at each other, aware that something was off.

"Stop for a moment, and ask what it means?"

Gu Lianne raised her hand to halt their group, and people nearby relayed her command downward.

They hovered and stopped, and the various following sects also halted.

Soon, a disciple from Shudao Mountain who had been flying on the right wing flew over to report exactly what he had noticed.

"What does finding a woman imply?" Yuan Yao asked.

The disciple explained, "That woman is standing on the mountaintop, alone. She was already there before we arrived, and she seems quite pretty."

Upon hearing this, everyone grasped his meaning.

This was the 'Wuming Forbidden Land,' a place fraught with deadly risks. If any sect venturing here was already abnormal, going so deep was even more so, let alone a single woman.

Was there a woman who had ventured alone into the 'Wuming Forbidden Land' before their arrival?

The people together exchanged glances.

Instinctively, Gu Lianne turned to Shi Chun, her look asking, "What do you think?"

Shi Chun shrugged, "I'm not familiar with this place; I just followed closely behind you guys."

He had no particular interest in so-called pretty women and didn't care whether anyone from the Artifact Refining sects had boldly ventured here before them.

Wu Jinliang nodded repeatedly in agreement.

However, Gu Lianne was curious. Which sect's disciple was so bold, and could there be something significant about it?

The rationale among companions is sometimes quite subtle.

She thought for a moment, decided it wasn't far, and abruptly declared, "Let's go have a look."

Yuan Yao immediately signaled the reporting disciple to lead the way, and a group followed, turning around to leave.

They had already flown over and now started running back; the sects trailing behind immediately and anxiously retreated as Shudao Mountain had previously issued threats of violence—did they really think Shudao Mountain would not dare to take action?

The mountain was a high one, at least the highest in its surrounding area.

The aforementioned woman was still on the mountain; she looked up at the sect members retreating overhead. Their departure seemed to incite her to move. She turned her head back and looked towards Gu Lianni and the others who were flying towards her.

A group of seven or eight people landed briskly on the mountaintop, right in front of the woman, while Gu Lianni's group scrutinized her.

The woman had hair reaching her waist and hips, occasionally fluttered by the wind brushing across her face. Her features were clear and clean, her eyes like cold stars, deep and tranquil, inspecting everyone with a glint of anticipation occasionally flashing in her gaze.

Beautiful, yet possessing a unique temperament—bewitching, pure, and somehow spotless, it was hard to define the exact allure, but it was captivating for sure.

Her skin was fair, her stature tall and upright; it was hard to discern her feminine curves as she wore a man's coat, which in stolen blue looked quite oversized and somewhat retro.

Despite its poor fit, the fabric seemed to carry a noble air.

Her black boots were also obviously men's style, and through the slits on the sides of her clothes, one could see her snow-white legs.

This not only caught the attention of the men but also that of Gu Lianni, who wondered what the situation was underneath that coat—was the woman not wearing pants?

Most people were trying to guess which Artifact Refining Sect the woman belonged to based on her clothing.

Only Shi Chun's eyes betrayed a flash of terror.

Upon entering 'Wuming Forbidden Land', he would activate his superpower to observe as soon as he noticed anything amiss. With this supposed mountaintop woman alone here, he definitely needed to check the surroundings for any ambush.

However, his superpower did not detect any ambush around. Instead, it was the solitary woman herself that really made his pupils contract sharply.

In his right eye, this woman appeared not with the normal white mist but as black fog, and there seemed to be rippling light beneath the black fog.

What was going on? She was neither human nor demon; unknown what she was exactly. He had seen all sorts of creatures, but never this kind of inner form.

Shi Chun quickly scanned the surroundings. Logically, such a being shouldn't be able to enter from the outside world. Could it be someone from within the Divine Fire Domain?

Not far off was the so-called safe boundary. Shi Chun glanced around, then looked down at the mountaintop and then at the supposed safe boundary, noting that the mountaintop seemed to be just inside the boundary line.

Could it be? A chilling conjecture emerged in his mind.

And in some people's eyes, the woman's snow-white legs were still quite appealing.

Especially when a sudden wind flipped up her coat hem, exposing more under the starlight, which was quite eye-catching for monks; Wu Jinliang immediately revealed a sly smirk, glancing towards Shi Chun while making faces.

Seemingly sensing something, Shi Chun looked back at him, touched his lips with his hand, and threw him a meaningful look.

Seeing this gesture, Wu Jinliang was taken aback, then quickly re-assessed the woman, realizing what Chun Tian was signaling—there was a problem!

Was there a problem with this woman?

At the moment, there seemed to be no one else besides her.

But what could be wrong with her?

After looking at her again, Wu Jinliang glanced back at Shi Chun, who seemed to foresee his confusion. Shi Chun was now touching his right eye, rubbing it.

Wu Jinliang got the hint now; Chun Tian's right eye had spotted something crucial. He grew alert, and seeing Shi Chun's nonchalant retreat, let Gu Lianni and others stand forward while he too discreetly backed off.

He knew this wasn't about betraying Gu Lianni and the others; if something were truly wrong, they would definitely warn them.

But as per the style they had developed in the Land of Exile, before warning anyone, someone had to stand in front, whether it was people from Shudao Mountain or theirs, that really wasn't a choice.

Shi Chun looked towards Chu Jingtang and others still hovering in the air.

Staring at the woman intently for a while, Gu Lianni, after much deliberation, couldn't figure out which sect's attire the lone woman was wearing.

With thousands of sects, and diverse clothing styles, no one could memorize every Artifact Refining Sect's attire.

She looked at Yuan Yao, who was also shaking his head slightly; now she had a clue, probably some disciple from a lesser-known, lower-tier sect—the attire of a high-profile famous sect she would surely recognize.

Given the woman's appearance and unique temperament, she would definitely remember seeing her before.

Her curiosity deepened; which small sect's disciple was bold enough to venture into this Forbidden Land? After observing for a while, she finally spoke up, "Which sect's disciple are you?"

A group of curious eyes also focused on the woman.

Shi Chun's and Wu Jinliang's intense gazes were filled with caution, eager to hear how she would answer, hoping to gauge some level of risk according to her response.

The lone woman did not answer right away; she slightly tilted her head, seemingly pondering seriously.
