Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 668: Delivering the Demon Book

One night of passion, Shi Chun lost his long beard because Bian Weiyin didn't find it attractive, and Shi Chun was quite concerned about his image. Plus, the long beard was cumbersome, so Bian Weiyin personally shaved it clean.

After staying on the mountain for a few days, the fantastic spectacle of the aurora-lit night sky finally appeared.

That night, Pang Tiansheng, the steward of the Punishment Court, received a confidential mission to accompany Shi Chun as a cover and cooperate with all of Shi Chun's actions. Shi Chun was disguised, and Pang Tiansheng didn't know who he was.

A few days later, when time became precious, Shi Chun quietly descended the mountain. Looking back at the towering Wukang Mountain, it no longer seemed as prestigious as it once was; it was merely a rather peculiar small sect.

He was puzzled about the Demon Path side, wondering why even such a small sect couldn't be taken down, unsure what was holding them back back then.

Turning around again, he entered Lankang City and left via the city's Xun Gate...

At the East Victory Royal Capital, a frail old man followed a man into the mountain forest in the suburbs.

The old man was none other than Jinfu, the clan leader of the Golden-haired Rat Clan. He didn't know who the stranger leading the way was, but the hint given was irresistible, forcing him to follow.

Finally, in a dense forest ravine, he met the person haunting his dreams, the smiling Shi Chun.

Of course, there was also the now plump and cheerful Wu Jinliang.

Jinfu was thrilled, having waited for so many years. Finally, it happened. He hastily ran forward, bowed deeply, "This humble old man greets Mr. Wang and Mr. Gao."

The stranger leading the way didn't come over but proactively positioned himself on a nearby mountain to keep watch. It was the transformed Xiao Sheng, whose alertness now far surpassed that of the past. Over these years, having done many bad deeds with Wu Jinliang, his demeanor had completely changed.

Wu Jinliang had already extended his hand to help Jinfu up, "Please, Clan Leader, don't say you still don't know who we are."

Jinfu quickly clasped his hands and changed his greeting, "I've long admired the famous Mr. Shi and Mr. Gao."

Shi Chun spoke concisely, "Clan Leader Jin, you probably guessed why I'm here. Twenty years may seem long yet short, counting as a test. Let's not beat around the bush; finish the handover of clan affairs and come with us. This place is not suitable for your cultivation of the Demon Book. We'll take you to a secluded place, and we'll think of ways to handle the cultivation resources."

"I…" Jinfu's old face froze in mixed surprise and joy, pointing at himself, "Me cultivating the Demon Book?"

Shi Chun: "Yes, just you. Having many people involved can be problematic. Even if you're confident in your clan members, it's impossible for your entire clan to cultivate. If the Demon Book truly aids in significantly boosting strength, the cultivation resources consumed by the whole clan would be extraordinary. Frankly, I can't afford that, and you don't have the capability to sustain it. The consequences of seeking out others are unbearable for both you and me. At present, it's better for other clan members to endure for now and let one rise first, then have him support the clan."

"I understand, I understand." Jinfu nodded repeatedly and waved his hand, "That's not what I meant. What I meant was, I'm too old, whether I can succeed is still a question. This opportunity should be given to the one with the highest cultivation talent in our clan, like Huang Yingying. How about letting him cultivate it?"

These words brought a shared glance between Shi Chun and Wu Jinliang. To let go of such temptation, both felt deep respect.

Shi Chun pondered for a moment. To him, Jinfu seemed experienced and trustworthy, while Huang Yingying, with his careless antics, felt unreliable. Yet, he still respected the decision of the Golden-haired Rat Clan, though he had concerns, "Bai Qiru might be watching, possibly targeting the Demon Book…"

Jinfu waved his hand again, "No worries, you just take Huang Yingying away. You don't have to worry about others; I'll handle the rest myself. If possible, I can entice Huang Yingying to meet you right now."

Shi Chun thought for a moment and nodded, "Alright, no time to lose."

Thus, Jinfu bowed and took his leave.

For safety's sake, Shi Chun and Wu Jinliang promptly moved to a different location, leaving Xiao Sheng to keep watch.

After relocating to a mountain dozens of miles away, Shi Chun mentioned Yu Xuanbing, "That top assassin hasn't moved, right? He still owes me a life."

Speaking of this, Wu Jinliang chuckled dryly, "That promise for a life is gone. He helped me kill a few people, offsetting it."

"What happened?" Shi Chun was surprised.

"It was during the execution grounds' beheading…" Wu Jinliang recounted his experience of being coerced by the Demon Path, explaining how Yu Xuanbing's actions cleared the debt, and finally shrugged helplessly, "Though he helped voluntarily, not as we asked, it's really hard to deny it, logically speaking, it's unreasonable, plus, I can't beat him."

A surprise twist indeed, Shi Chun pondered over this before suddenly reaching out, "What about the 'Void Escape Divine Bow'? Let me see."

Wu Jinliang's expression stiffened, "Come on, Chun Tian, this treasure should be mine, right? You don't know how much effort I put into getting it smoothly, reporting, hiding and even fearing it had a tracking ability, buried it underground for years before daring to touch it. It's really my painstaking effort."

Shi Chun: "Stop babbling, just let me have a look."

Wu Jinliang sighed, "You look, but it's useless. I tried and inquired; that thing is a genuine six-grade Magical Treasure, already a Divine Artifact, needing cultivation beyond the Heavenly Immortal Realm to use."
