Lighting Lanterns in the Mountains and Seas

Chapter 84: Iron Dumpling

Is there any need to guess? The man had come directly to their doorstep to seek an explanation for their actions, and Bian Weiying didn't wish to argue with him. She turned around and called to her people, "Let's go check it out."

Gan Tangyu and Xiang Laner immediately followed her.

The group arrived at the hiding spot of Shi Chun and Wu Jinliang. They held up their Sandal Gold Illumination to survey the scene. Firstly, they found no traces of a fight, and then they began to search around but found no sign of the two men.

Afterward, prompted by Bian Weiying, Gan Tangyu simply used a spell and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Shi Chun, Wu Jinliang, Shi Chun, Wu Jinliang..."

Her shouts dissolved into the vast night air, but shouting herself hoarse wouldn't result in any reply.

Bian Weiying took out the other halves of the talismans, which were the corresponding halves given to her by Shi Chun and Wu Jinliang. She cast a spell on the spot to send a message, asking where they were and demanding they return immediately.

The two of them had no plans to return, so naturally, there was no response.

Watching Bian Weiying silently put away half of the talisman, Xiang Laner said with a grave tone, "If there were no alarms and no signs of a fight at the scene, could it be because someone from our side approached them unawares?"

Bian Weiying cast a sidelong glance. "Do you suspect Bai Shuchuan and his people of foul play?"

Xiang Laner replied, "It's not impossible. Bai Shuchuan has always been displeased with them, always mocking and targeting them."

Bian Weiying turned her head to look at Gan Tangyu.

Gan Tangyu thought for a moment and then said, "Indeed."

Bian Weiying then turned her gaze back into the depths of the night and muttered, "Could it be that they slipped away on their own?"

She was suspicious because she remembered Shi Chun asking her for charms earlier.

Xiang Laner speculated, "Three possibilities: either they were attacked by outsiders and taken away, caught off guard by one of our own, or if they truly ran away, given their cultivation strength, why would they run and where would they be running to? Unless they never want to show their faces again, otherwise, they would be labeled as traitors of Wukang Mountain. And what's the purpose of outsiders snatching them away? The operation has just started, and no one has achieved much. Is there any point in taking action now?"

He felt it was unlikely that Sun Shigang and his group rashly made a move without his cooperation. Without his agreement, Sun Shigang's group wouldn't dare to provoke a conflict with their side.

Indeed, Bian Weiying was swayed by her words, slowly turning to scrutinize her sister-in-law, noticing she was somewhat different from usual. She was clear-headed and analytical about such matters, no longer like the reserved and wronged young wife she seemed to be.

Feeling Bian Weiying's gaze reflecting the starlight, Xiang Laner suddenly realized something and quickly pretended to be extremely worried, "If something really happened, even if they died, their bodies shouldn't be thrown far. We should still ask the various sects to help search."

Bian Weiying nodded slightly. Although it was a troublesome matter, they couldn't just ignore it. She immediately led the two to find Bai Shuchuan and others to request help in the search.

Bai Shuchuan was truly unwilling to waste energy on two useless individuals, but confronted with the plea from two great beauties, he could only claim he was doing this for the sake of their comradeship. He rallied everyone to help search, and soon the wilderness was dotted with the glimmer of the Sandal Gold Flame Energy.

The search yielded no people, but they did stumble upon another hiding place for an Insect Extreme Crystal and dug up another one of the crystals, resulting in cheerful exclamations.

After searching for about an hour, everyone gradually returned, with no one willing to carry on indefinitely for two nobodies.

Bian Weiying and the others had no choice but to accept the reality, not daring to accuse anyone inside of foul play.

Once the group quieted down, Xiang Laner sent a signal to Sun Shigang's group, wanting to confirm whether they had made a move or not. What if? But there was no response...

Shi Chun and Wu Jinliang, who had run far away, followed the map they were given and arrived at a canyon near the barrier's edge. After ensuring there was no one in the canyon, they decided to settle down there.

They released the restraints on several people, and when releasing Sun Shigang, seeing him glaring at them with vengeful eyes, Wu Jinliang wasn't about to be courteous. Slap! He delivered a loud smack across Sun Shigang's face, "What are you glaring at? Didn't you tell us to wait? No need, we've come to you. What can you do about it?"

Seeing his defiant look, Wu Jinliang slapped his face several harsh times, causing Sun Shigang's face to bleed from the mouth and nose, and swell visibly.

Noticing the ineffective talismans on Sun Shigang's body, Wu Jinliang suddenly remembered how Sun Shigang had struggled under the third-grade immobilization charm before and grew curious. He pressed his hand on Sun Shigang and cast a spell for a thorough examination.

He didn't realize the gravity until he checked, and the shock made him break out into a cold sweat. He hastily applied several more restraints and screamed, "Chun Tian, this guy is troublesome."

Shi Chun, who was scouting the canyon to decide where to temporarily make camp, hurried over at the call, "What's wrong?"

Wu Jinliang wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. "Good thing I checked. The restraints on this guy have been broken in several places. We would have been in danger if it were any later. And this guy, he's not at the Upper Realm at all, but at the Great Achievement Realm. How did he manage to evade several inspections and sneak in?"

He quickly checked the others and found their restraints intact, without any signs of being tampered with.

High Martial Great Success Realm, just one step away from being a Human Immortal? Shi Chun couldn't believe it. He too placed his hand on Sun Shigang's body for a careful examination. After sensing the profound and powerful foundation within him, he felt a chill, realizing they had captured a presence akin to Feng Chi's power.

More than fear, though, he felt excitement, his eyes gleaming. He wasn't afraid of the strength of this Demonic cultivator; the stronger, the better. He hadn't expected to catch such a big fish!

Shi Chun immediately turned and said, "Jinliang, not far from the entrance, there's a collapsed tower with a lot of iron chains tangled in it. Run over there and bring back as much as you can, the more the better."

Wu Jinliang said, "You want to use iron chains to bind him? With his cultivation, those chains might not hold him."

Shi Chun, feeling impatient and disinclined to waste words, said, "Just go while it's dark, I have my uses for them."

"Alright, just be careful yourself," Wu Jinliang said before turning to leave. He hadn't walked a few steps when he decided to leave his knife behind, considering the burden he would be carrying back.

Shi Chun didn't idle either, he found a suitable spot under the cliff and started digging with his knife.

After digging for a while, he would check the constraint mechanism on Sun Shigang and the others, then continue digging, repeating this process without stopping.

It was only as the sky began to brighten that Wu Jinliang's panting voice could be heard, carrying what sounded like an iron tower, which with a loud crash and clatter, toppled to the ground. He himself staggered against the stone wall to sit down and catch his breath.

When Shi Chun crawled out of the hole he had dug to see, Wu Jinliang pointed and said, "That enough for you? These iron chains haven't shown any rust after all the wind and sun, and I couldn't even make a mark when I smashed them. They're no ordinary chains, they should definitely be enough to bind them."

Shi Chun looked at the heap and said with admiration, "The strength of the High Martial Realm is really something else."

Wu Jinliang glanced at the little mountain of earth and stones that Shi Chun had dug out and asked in curiosity, "What are you digging such a big hole for?"

"Planning to stay here for a while."

"Stay here?"

Shi Chun turned around and dragged Sun Shigang over, picked up an iron chain, and began to bind him directly, all the while designing a mechanism that incorporated his short blade and knife. If this bastard dared to cast a spell to break free, the blade would immediately stab into his vitals.

Wu Jinliang, watching from the side, was somewhat puzzled, "Why are you going to such lengths?"

Shi Chun replied, "You'll know in a bit."

Fine, Wu Jinliang just watched, seeing Shi Chun use the chains to tightly bind Sun Shigang into a giant iron rice dumpling, leaving only his head exposed. It was a cringe-inducing sight, yet one could feel the seriousness Shi Chun placed on this matter, a sense of sparing no expense. First, he used those five third-grade immobilization charms without hesitation, not even blinking an eye.

For the completed iron dumpling masterpiece, Shi Chun was quite satisfied. He had been worried about binding Sun Shigang, but now, considering the quantity of the chains and the sturdiness of the chains themselves, he figured someone at Sun's realm probably couldn't break free.

Then, borrowing Wu Jinliang's brute strength, they carried the iron dumpling into the cave.

Only after entering the cave did they realize it was a winding two-section cave with a stone wall as thick as ten feet inside. Turning to the side, there was another space.

Shi Chun also dragged a chain into the innermost room, where on the cave ceiling, he had carved out a beam. Climbing up with the chain, he set it up and with help from Wu Jinliang below, they tied the other end to the iron dumpling. With a pull and a yank, they hoisted the iron dumpling into midair.

Sun Shigang watched with wide-eyed suspicion, not knowing what these two bastards were planning to do to him. It all looked quite terrifying, and he was hair-raisingly anxious. Killing a man was one thing, but was it necessary to go to such extremes just because he had threatened them earlier?

And, frustratingly, he couldn't even vocalize.

As thoughts raced through his mind, Shi Chun turned to Wu Jinliang saying, "Help him release the restraints."

Immediately, Wu Jinliang reached up to touch the iron dumpling and, casting a spell through the chains, undid the restrictions binding the flesh within the iron.

As the restraints loosened, Sun Shigang spoke in a deep voice, "What the hell do you two bastards want?"

Wu Jinliang shrugged and spread his hands, an I-don't-know-what's-going-on-don't-yell-at-me look on his face.

Shi Chun was quite frank this time, "It's nothing much. We both know who the other is, so let's not play games. I'll be upfront—I'm afflicted with a strange poison that requires Demonic Qi to cure. The simplest solution would've been to use Xiang Laner's Demonic Qi to cure myself. But considering there are many around her and it's not quite right for her to leave now, since you've come to me willingly, I won't touch Xiang Laner."

Wu Jinliang stared at him dumbfounded. Poisoned? With what?

It seemed suspect, but he did need someone's Demonic Qi—that part couldn't be faked. Could it be real?

"In short, you release your Demonic Qi to cure my poison, and once I'm cured, I'll let you go and won't harm Xiang Laner. If you refuse, I'll torture you by every means possible, making you wish for death. And if you truly approach death, I still have time to go after Xiang Laner. You know, I can easily get close to her."

In certain aspects, he wasn't joking. The reason he approached this one first was the fear there wouldn't be enough Demonic Qi, so he'd use him first. Meanwhile, it's easier to deal with Xiang Laner, isn't there the linked charm to contact Bian Weiyin? He could return at any moment.

Should Bian Weiyin ask why he had run off, he could easily blame being captured by Sun Shigang and his comrades.

Looking at it now, he had caught a big fish. The Demonic Qi supply capabilities exceeded his expectations. Plus, with four more accomplices, it should be enough for him to indulge for a while.

How could this man have known he was of the Demon Path? Sun Shigang questioned with a mix of shock and suspicion, "What sort of poison requires Demonic Qi to cure?"

Shi Chun beckoned with his finger, "You wouldn't have heard of it anyway. Just release some Demonic Qi for me to try. If yours isn't adequate, there's no use keeping you."
