"Wha—?" Leo breathed out, eyes blinking rapidly as the flood of information sank in.
"Okay… I guess packs are displayed differently," he muttered, scrolling through the details. His pupils constricted.
"A low 3-star!"
This was the first proper 3-star beast he had seen since entering the trial—never mind that it carried a super bloodline.
"And what is this? Two noble bloodlines… and another pseudo 3-star?" he exclaimed, his disbelief lost in the chaotic forest.
This was, by far, the most powerful force he had encountered so far—well, if he didn't count the instructors and professors.
"Okay… both alphas are super bloodlines, so those two wolves must be their successful offspring that managed to reach the next stage of bloodline," he murmured, piecing the family structure together. The realisation that every single wolf here was related—one tightly knit family—only deepened his intrigue.
A golden opportunity. Watching high-ranking beasts fight firsthand was something he couldn't afford to miss. He focused on the clash—only to notice something off about the golem. It took him a moment to catch it.
"It has three cores," Leo whispered, eyes widening just as a system prompt flickered before him.
Puppet Rock Golem (Pseudo 3-star) – Magical Construct
From what he sensed, the golem was nowhere near the level of a mere pseudo-3-star. Its cores radiated with that same intense glow he had seen in the previous constructs. The aura rolling off it felt comparable—if not superior—to the male Alpha Wolf.
"Wait… male? How does this wolf have a gender but not Shyra?" he asked aloud, brows furrowing.
<This particular species of wolf evolved from native inhabitants of this world, granting them gender from birth.>
"Ah…" Leo exhaled, finally noticing the size difference. Even as a low 3-star, the alpha male's body was only on par with Shyra's peak 2-star form—very similar to the peak 2-star noble-bloodline beta male. That was the difference bloodline brought: even if the stage seemed inferior on paper, a higher lineage always stamped its superiority onto reality.
The battlefield was a blur of movement. The noble-blooded beta male fought alongside the alpha, both wolves darting in tandem as they tore at the golem's rocky hide with practised precision.
The construct towered nearly ten meters tall—an immovable stone giant compared to the wolves—but not a shred of hesitation gleamed in the pack's eyes. Especially the alpha male. His gaze was burning, a jagged scar slicing diagonally across his face—from the right ear to the lower left jaw—giving him the look of a hardened veteran who had earned every bit of his authority.
His ferocity rippled through the pack like a spark through dry grass. Even the lower-ranked wolves dashed in fearlessly, weaving with swift, graceful footwork as they chipped away at the golem piece by piece. Their collective momentum was a sight to behold.
The alpha female, smaller than her mate, kept her distance—watching with a calm, calculating stillness. Yet whenever a lower-ranked wolf was a heartbeat too slow to escape an incoming blow, she shot out like a streak of silver lightning. Her speed easily surpassed even the male alpha's, her interventions sharp and decisive as she yanked her packmates out of danger with ruthless efficiency.
They weren't just fighting the field boss. They were training under it.
It was then that the alpha suddenly skidded back, its claws carving deep grooves through the dirt as it braked to a halt.
Awoooooo!
A loud, deafening howl ripped from its throat—so powerful that Leo felt it vibrate faintly in his ribs. The moment the call echoed through the battlefield, every other wolf broke away from the golem, scattering with practiced discipline. Even the noble-blooded beta tilted its head back and howled in response. Its cry was far less intense—a respectful echo acknowledging the alpha's authority.
Both wolves positioned themselves on opposite sides of the towering golem, forcing the massive construct into hesitation. The rocky giant turned its head left, then right, unable to decide where to charge.
That was when the air distorted.
Greyish, mist-like projections began forming in front of both wolves. The alpha's projection solidified into the spectral image of a massive wolf's head—jaws gaping wide, fangs long and razor-sharp, its signature diagonal scar more prominent on the projection. The beta's projection, in contrast, condensed into a blunt, blocky hammer shape.
The moment they took form, both wolves lunged.
Their movements blurred, their bodies vanishing and reappearing in the blink of an eye—alpha flashing in front of the golem's chest, beta materializing behind it near the broad, flat back. The alpha was slightly further away, but the beta struck first.
BAAM!
A thunderous crash split the air. The golem, still trying to process the sudden shift, was caught completely off guard. The beta's hammer-like projection smashed into its back, jerking the entire construct forward. Its chest lurched out while the rest of its body arched unnaturally, exposing the cores embedded there.
Then the alpha struck.
It materialized right in front of the golem, the spectral wolf head clamping down with terrifying force—its projected canines biting directly into the core housing, locking onto two of the three cores at once.
"Oh no—the rebound!" Leo blurted out, remembering vividly how anyone who attacked the chest cores had been violently hurled back in past fights.
But it seemed the wolves had already accounted for it.
The alpha female shot forward like a streak of grey, emerging right behind her mate. She pressed a paw firmly against his back, legs digging in the ground as if to steady herself, her claws crackling faintly as she poured energy into him—at least, that's what Leo guessed she was doing.
The rebound hit instantly.
A turtle-shell barrier erupted—not one, but two. One for each core. Both barriers shattered in the same breath, fragments scattering like shards of pale light.
But something unexpected happened.
The alpha didn't budge.
Its spectral fangs stayed clamped tight and still digging deeper. The backlash—normally uncontrollable—surged into the alpha's body, but instead of throwing him away, it flowed through him… then into the alpha female… then back into him… and finally—
BOOOM!!
—the redirected energy exploded outward into the golem itself, the shockwave bursting from within the construct's chest.
Leo could only think of one thing.
"Intelligent Beasts!"

A/N: You know... a magic castle might help Leo add this wolf pack to his arsenal(¬‿¬). And yes, it just consumes a single slot for tamed beasts—Kuhmm, anyways,
the new Privilege tier will be added by tomorrow. That's a 5-chapter release.
