Yi Anguo glanced at Chen Ting, who was gripping his hand tightly, her nervousness apparent. He hesitated for a moment before finally shaking his head and saying, "It's nothing. Thank you for thinking so highly of me!"
"Good! Chen Ting is my only precious daughter. Since she has set her heart on you, I trust she hasn't chosen the wrong person. I hope you will treat her well and never let her down," Chen Jianjun said with a nod. "Later, I will publicly introduce you to all the guests at the reception. You'll be known as my future son-in-law and the heir to Chen Enterprise. Then, no one should dare to bully or cross you."
"Chen Enterprise?" Yi Anguo asked, a bit puzzled.
"You might not have heard much about Chen Enterprise, but you'll come to understand it gradually," Chen Jianjun explained, leaning back leisurely on the leather sofa. "Our company mainly deals with investment projects, which are divided into two main categories: industrial and financial."
"Industrial investment is further split into two types: one is investing in manufacturing and other real economy companies, and the other is investing in commercial trade and real estate projects."
"I can see you have a talent for investment. You have a keen eye, and you're bold yet meticulous. How about you start by joining Chen Enterprise to head the financial investment department?"
"About that… I'm afraid I can't accept your offer," Yi Anguo said with a wry smile, shaking his head.
"Why not? Are you unwilling to work at Chen Enterprise?" Chen Jianjun asked, frowning.
"It's not about whether I want to work there or not; it's that I'm simply not qualified for the job," Yi Anguo explained. "To be honest, you're right. I'm just a poor kid from the rural mainland with little education and even less work experience. How could I possibly have the ability to manage the financial investment department at Chen Enterprise?"
"If you don't have experience, you can learn. You're going to be my son-in-law and inherit my company. If you don't understand now, you can study. When I'm gone, this company will eventually be handed over to you two. What will you do then? Will you still claim you don't understand and just ignore it?" Chen Jianjun pressed. "Besides, do you really think I don't know? You set up your own securities investment studio and have made a considerable amount of money. Are you going to tell me you don't understand financial investment? Do you think I'd believe you?"
Yi Anguo began to seriously suspect that Chen Enterprise was some sort of intelligence agency. In front of this father and daughter, it seemed he had no secrets at all.
"Alright! Since you want me to, I'll do it. But if I don't perform well and cause any losses, you can't blame me then!" Yi Anguo could only say helplessly.
I'll just get past this for now. I can figure out the future later, he thought. Given Chen Jianjun's impressive demeanor, the prestige and scale of Chen Enterprise must be considerable.
He remembered his plan to invest in Hong Kong stocks and asked, "I plan to invest in Hong Kong stocks, but due to foreign exchange controls, moving funds out of the country is quite inconvenient. Do you think…?"
"You're planning to invest in Hong Kong stocks? That's simple. Our financial investment department at Chen Enterprise mainly invests in Hong Kong and U.S. stocks, as well as crude oil futures, foreign exchange, and gold. How much capital do you plan to move into the Hong Kong stock market?"
"I'm thinking about exchanging around two hundred million Hong Kong dollars," Yi Anguo said after a moment of thought. "If that's too much, it can be less. One hundred million is also an option."
"Are you really transferring that much money out of the country just to invest in Hong Kong stocks?" Chen Jianjun asked, a hint of suspicion in his voice. "Or is this an escape plan you've prepared in advance?"
"No. If I were worried, I wouldn't have just purchased those 2,000 apartments in Qianhai Fashion Garden," Yi Anguo explained. "Besides, if I wanted to avoid risk, I could easily sell all the properties I currently own. Even if I sold them at a discount, I'd still make a profit, just a smaller one. If I sell them cheaper than others, it shouldn't be hard to unload them, right?"
Chen Jianjun nodded. "You're right about all of that, so it seems you're not so dumb after all! But why haven't you done it then? Should I say you're naive but bold, or that you simply don't know fear? I'm genuinely curious."
"What if I told you it's because I love and believe in my country, and I've never thought about abandoning it? Would you believe me?" Yi Anguo replied after some thought.

The reception soon officially began, and only then did Yi Anguo realize the event was actually the annual meeting for Chen Enterprise.
Chen Enterprise was essentially a group with numerous companies of varying sizes under its umbrella. Within each of these companies were many shareholders and executives, both major and minor. These companies usually operated independently, but they could cooperate when necessary, as they all ultimately answered to the same boss: the Chen Enterprise head office. Their one common trait was that Chen Enterprise was the majority shareholder in each of them. While Chen Enterprise didn't directly involve itself in the daily management of these subsidiaries, it could intervene at any time, even going so far as to replace an entire management team. This was because Chen Enterprise held absolute controlling shares, allowing it to veto any resolution with a single vote.
Among the attendees were executives from the various subsidiaries, business partners of Chen Enterprise, and even some high-ranking officials from local government departments who had been invited.
At the reception, Chen Jianjun, accompanied by Chen Ting and Yi Anguo, made a formal appearance. He introduced his daughter, Chen Ting, and his future son-in-law, Yi Anguo, to everyone. He then announced the latest personnel changes: Chen Ting would be appointed Vice President of Chen Enterprise, and Yi Anguo would become the General Manager of the Financial Investment Department, reporting directly to the Chairman, Chen Jianjun.
Afterward, Chen Jianjun led Chen Ting and Yi Anguo around, introducing them to some government officials, as well as major shareholders and executives from the subsidiary companies.
By the time the socializing was finally over, Yi Anguo felt utterly exhausted, especially after all the alcohol he had consumed. Drinking at such events was unavoidable, and some toasts were simply mandatory.
The life of the wealthy was certainly grand, but it wasn't one of complete freedom. In fact, it was perhaps less free than the life of an ordinary person with a modest amount of money.
After hearing Chen Ting's words before arriving and then her father's words at the villa, combined with the experience of mingling at the reception, Yi Anguo felt a profound sense of reflection. He calmed his mind and began to introspect, feeling that he had been too greedy and too rash. If he had only used his method to buy a hundred apartments instead of a thousand, perhaps he wouldn't be in such a passive position now. His wealth would be significantly less, and his rate of earning would be much slower, but at least he would be safe and have nothing to worry about. Now, despite his immense apparent wealth, he felt no peace of mind and was constantly worried that something would go wrong.
Actually, Chen Jianjun's guess wasn't wrong. I planned to exchange 200 million Hong Kong dollars to move abroad, ostensibly to invest in Hong Kong stocks, but it was also a way to secure an escape route for myself. If any sign of trouble appeared, I could go abroad to lay low until things blew over. That way, I wouldn't be completely unprepared if things really went south.
Even though I don't believe I've actually done anything wrong… some things don't end well just because you think you're innocent.
