The Flying Leopard is a unique organization among Huaxia's special departments. It is a provincial-level special department established by the state specifically to deal with individuals possessing extraordinary martial power.
This department is affiliated with the Public Security Department of Three Provinces of Lingnan, yet local authorities have no jurisdiction or command over it, which shows just how high its rank is. Ordinary officials in slightly lower positions probably aren't even qualified to know of its existence. Furthermore, the department's jurisdiction covers the Three Provinces of Lingnan: Jiangnan, Su Yang, and Qinzhou.
For such a special department, ranked even half a step higher than the provincial Public Security Departments, the entry requirements could only be described as perversely difficult. At a bare minimum, an applicant had to be the elite of the elite from military special forces or a Second Rate Ancient Martial Artist. Legends even spoke of the King of Soldiers or a First-Class Ancient Warrior joining their ranks!
But now, these five or six men, all elites from the special forces and official members of the Flying Leopard, could have fought a First-Class Ancient Warrior to a standstill if they worked together. In front of Chen Fei, however, they couldn't even block a single move. They were all sent tumbling, landing in a heap on the ground. Each man was bruised, gasping for air in pain.
This scene naturally stunned the female officer, but it also made her furious.
"Do you have any idea what you're doing?" she snapped, striding up to Chen Fei and staring coldly into his eyes.
She and her subordinates were bona fide members of a national special department, protected by the state's authority. If anyone dared to lay a hand on them, the charges would be more than severe—it would become an incredibly messy affair.
"You're Zhao Xin?" Chen Fei said, looking at the female officer with some surprise. He realized she was the same Zhao Xin he had met and fought alongside once before.
Even so, his expression remained grim. He pointed at the black-clad Flying Leopard members strewn across the ground and asked coldly, "Who are these guys?"
"Them? They're my subordinates!" Zhao Xin said, startled by his icy tone, biting her lip.
"Subordinates? Fine. Tell them to get the hell out of here, right now!" Chen Fei's brow furrowed, his tone exceptionally rude. Anyone would be furious and deeply unsettled to find a group of men standing at their door like a row of grim-faced door gods.
Worse, Chen Fei's main concern was that his mother was home alone. These people had just shown up, brazen and without any consideration. If they scared his mother, or worse, did something to threaten her… Chen Fei couldn't bear the thought, and a cold fury flashed in his dark eyes.
"Chen Fei, what's that supposed to mean?" Zhao Xin's face paled when she heard his words.
"What do I mean? You have the nerve to ask me that? Zhao Xin, we may have only met once, but we were comrades, weren't we? And didn't I, Chen Fei, save your life? So what are you doing now? Bringing these gods of pestilence to block my front door? Are you trying to put me in my place, or just scare me and my mother? Believe me, if we didn't know each other and if you weren't a woman, you'd be on the ground just like them!" Chen Fei flew into a rage, words firing from his mouth like a machine gun.
Even though he suspected this might be a misunderstanding, their act of blocking his doorway infuriated and annoyed him. Their actions were tantamount to him leading a squad to storm the Flying Leopard's headquarters. If he dared to do something like that, they would hunt him to the ends of the earth.
"No, that wasn't my intention," Zhao Xin said, stunned at first. She finally understood why Chen Fei was so angry—he thought they had come to intimidate him.
Moreover, she realized that their actions today had indeed been inappropriate.
Chen Fei's mother was just an 'ordinary' housewife. Seeing five imposing, grim-faced men in black suits blocking her door would surely scare her. Not to mention, it would look terrible if the neighbors saw.
In short, she, Zhao Xin, had been careless. Otherwise, this whole unnecessary misunderstanding could have been avoided.
At this thought, she lowered her head. "Chen Fei, I was wrong today. I didn't think things through…" Chen Fei had saved her life, yet her carelessness today made it seem like she was repaying kindness with enmity. She felt a pang of guilt and embarrassment.
"That's enough. I'm not in the mood for your nonsense. I'll say it one last time: make them disappear from my sight, or you will face the consequences," Chen Fei said impatiently, his face a cold mask.
"Kid, what's your problem? Do you know who we are? We're Flying Leopard, agents of the state! Your attitude is tantamount to resisting the state itself!" just then, one of the men in black, who looked to be in his thirties, snarled through clenched teeth, his tone dripping with menace.
Upon hearing such power-tripping words, Chen Fei's expression grew even darker. A violent glint flashed in his eyes as he suddenly lifted his foot and stomped viciously onto the middle-aged man's chest.
CRACK!
The arrogant, mocking sneer on the man's face froze instantly. His chest caved in under Chen Fei's foot, and the sharp ends of his broken ribs pierced his flesh. He let out an agonized groan, blood spewing from his mouth.
"I never would have guessed. So these are the so-called agents of the state? What a pathetic bunch. You can't even take a single hit," Chen Fei said scornfully, staring down at the terrified man.
This scene stunned everyone present. Zhao Xin's face drained of color. "Chen Fei, do you know what you're doing?"
They had come today on a mission with friendly intentions. She never imagined things would turn out like this. Although the middle-aged man's words had been out of line, he was still a member of the Flying Leopard. Now, Chen Fei had ruthlessly caved his chest in. This was a major incident; things had just escalated drastically. To the Flying Leopard, an act like this could be considered a provocation. Damn it, how did it come to this?
"I know exactly what I'm doing. It's just that this piece of trash isn't qualified to make me hold back," Chen Fei said, turning his head to look directly into Zhao Xin's eyes. "I'll say it one last time. Either you tell them to leave, or I'll personally snap their necks. You can choose not to believe me."
"You…"
Zhao Xin was so infuriated by his stubbornness she could have stomped her feet.
However, when she met his gaze and saw the cold, brutal light within, she froze. A chill crept down her spine. That terrifying, scalp-numbing look in his eyes made it impossible for her to believe he was bluffing. He really would do it…
At that thought, even with her typically cool and indifferent demeanor, she began to panic. Waving her hands placatingly, she said, "Chen Fei, calm down. Please, just calm down. We really didn't come here with any other intentions…"
"It seems you think the words of I, Chen Fei, are just a joke," he interrupted, his face a blank mask. A terrifying, almost tangible aura erupted from his body, blanketing the men in black. His dark eyes were savage.
On any other day, he might not have reacted so violently.
But just last night, he had survived a terrifying life-or-death crisis, nearly swallowed alive by that Strange Snake at the bottom of the cold, merciless Emerald Lake. His mood was foul and his emotions were unstable. And now, these fools who didn't know their own limits had to come and poke the bear.
If you're asking to die, who can you blame but yourself? Since you're so eager for death, I, Chen Fei, will graciously grant your wish!
"Xiaofei, what are you doing? What's all this racket?" Just then, Lin Ling's voice drifted out from the apartment, causing Chen Fei's turbulent emotions to quell slightly as his eyes regained some clarity.
Wearing an apron, Lin Ling walked out, her tone mildly disapproving. Though her son's unusual voice had startled her, she was clever enough not to show it. She acted as if she had seen and heard nothing—clearly the best way to handle the situation.
"Mom, it's nothing. We're just fooling around. Right?" Chen Fei immediately shifted his body to block the severely injured man from her view. He shot a threatening glare at the men in black and forced a smile.
"Yes, that's right! Auntie, we were just playing around, just playing around…" the men in black replied, wanting to cry. This is what you call fooling around?
But they didn't dare act up in front of Chen Fei again. They were terrified this harbinger of death would snap their necks at the slightest provocation, so they quickly plastered smiles on their faces.
"Fooling around? You're a grown man, and you're still fooling around? Look at this mess," Lin Ling chided, feigning annoyance. "Didn't this young lady come to see you about something? Don't just stand around outside. Hurry up and come in to talk."
Her eyes seemed to casually sweep over the splash of red on the floor behind Chen Fei's feet. Then, as if seeing nothing, she turned and went back into the kitchen.
Phew, she almost saw.
Chen Fei let out a breath of relief. He turned back to the men in black and said coldly, "I believe this is the third time I've said it. Disappear from my sight immediately. And take this one with you." His mood had clearly stabilized, the interruption from his mother having cleared his head significantly.
"Captain Zhao, we'll head down now," one of the men said to Zhao Xin with a wry smile. Without a moment's hesitation, he and another man hoisted up their severely injured comrade and headed downstairs.
One of the cleverer ones even thought of the bloodstains in the stairwell, using some unknown method to clean them all away, earning a satisfied nod from Chen Fei.
