"Oh, just anybody?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Fei's deep, obsidian-like eyes flickered, and a faint smile touched his lips. Just anybody? He understood perfectly what the other party meant—he wasn't qualified enough. However, it seemed that even his uncle, Xiao Qianrang, the so-called spokesman for the Xiao Group, had no right to speak to him like this. In fact, Xiao Qianrang had bowed his head several times, begging for treatment, only to be turned away empty-handed each time to suffer the consequences. And now his nephew, a mere emotional substitute for the son Xiao Qianrang never had, was acting so high and mighty… How amusing.
"Xiao Hao, what do you mean…" Dong Jianhui began, his expression flashing with anger, but Chen Fei stopped him with a wave of his hand.
With a look of calm indifference, Chen Fei's lips curled slightly. "Xiao Shao does have a point. How about this? Three million per shot. If I lose this next shot, I'll put up three million for the stakes. What do you think, Xiao Shao?"
"Three million per shot?"
As soon as Chen Fei uttered these words, both Dong Jianhui and Xiao Hao's expressions changed dramatically, their eyes flashing with a look of sheer absurdity. Although three million wasn't a huge sum to them, the key phrase caught their attention: three million per shot. Was he really planning to play only one shot? What a joke. Does he really think he's the king of golf, Tiger Woods? That he can just make such an outrageous boast?
Thinking this, Xiao Hao looked at Chen Fei as if he were an idiot. A mocking arc formed on his lips as he said, "Fine, you said it. I'm not one to turn down three million in free money."
"Heh." Chen Fei just smiled faintly before speaking again. "Since Xiao Shao has agreed, why don't we raise the stakes? After all, I only have one shot. What do you think, Xiao Shao?"
"Raise the stakes? You seem quite confident. I wonder if it's just overconfidence? Hmph!" Xiao Hao sneered, his face a mask of intense self-assurance and mockery. "But since you put it that way, and as a favor to Young Master Dong, I, Xiao Hao, will play along. So, what's this big play of yours?"
He was certain that with Dong Jianhui's disastrous first shot, this stranger couldn't possibly turn the tables with a single hole-in-one. Victory was already in his grasp; there was no way he could lose! So, raise the stakes? Fine. It's not like he, Xiao Hao, had anything to fear.
"Xiao Shao is certainly straightforward. In that case, I'll say it." Chen Fei's lips curled, hinting at a triumphant scheme.
"If you're going to say it, then hurry up. Don't dawdle and waste time," Xiao Hao said, forcing himself to remain calm despite a flicker of unease. He looked at Chen Fei with a superior, disdainful air.
"Heh." Chen Fei chuckled lightly, his lips maintaining a faintly mocking curve as his voice suddenly deepened. "The new rule is simple. The loser not only has to hand over three million but also has to shout 'I admit defeat!' three times in public. How about that, Xiao Shao?"
"What did you say!?"
Xiao Hao's haughty expression froze, gradually replaced by a dark, gloomy scowl. After a long silence, his narrow eyes glinted with cold light, and he suddenly burst into laughter. "Hahaha, good, good, good! A big play indeed, I like it! But for a no-name like you, it seems you're hardly qualified to make such a bet with me, Xiao Hao, are you?"
With that, his narrow gaze swept toward Dong Jianhui, who was standing beside Chen Fei, his lips curling in a meaningful smirk.
"Hmph!" Seeing this, Dong Jianhui knew exactly what he meant. He snorted and shot back without hesitation, "Keep your eyes to yourself. If we lose, I, Dong Jianhui, will honor the terms of the bet. Are you satisfied now?"
"Hahahaha! Satisfied, very satisfied! Spoken like a true Young Master Dong. So decisive! Why don't we get started?" Xiao Hao laughed wildly, his face brimming with the certainty of victory. His gaze then fell upon Chen Fei as he said with a cold sneer, "Kid, take your shot."
"Of course. But I hope your eyes don't pop out of your head later, or that you don't try to back out and play dirty," Chen Fei retorted, a slight smile on his lips.
"You're not worthy of that!" Xiao Hao replied with cold disdain. He then crossed his arms, settling in to watch the show. One shot? A hole-in-one? Please, it's broad daylight; stop daydreaming!
BOOM!
"Look, what's going on over there? Did they switch players?"
"I'm not sure, but it looks like it."
At the same time, the members of the Dongyun International Private Club noticed the scene unfolding and began whispering among themselves. Wasn't it Young Master Dong and Young Master Xiao competing just a moment ago? Why was there a new person on the course now? And he looked so unfamiliar, clearly not from Tongzhou City, let alone from their circles in Jiangnan Province. What exactly was going on?
"Pfft! Young Master Dong, is this the 'helper' you brought? He doesn't even know the most basic golf stance. Are you sure he can even play?" Xiao Hao suddenly burst out laughing.
Chen Fei's grip on the golf club and his preparatory stance were completely unorthodox. At a glance, he looked like a total rookie.
No wonder this kid made such an arrogant claim about needing only one shot. He's just an ignorant fool who doesn't even know how to play.
"Shut your damn mouth."
To Xiao Hao's surprise, Dong Jianhui rebuked him harshly, his eyes filled with a cold, malevolent glare. Who the hell was Brother Fei? What an esteemed status he held in his heart! And you, Xiao Hao? What gives you the right to run your mouth here?
"You…" Xiao Hao felt a surge of anger, but when his gaze met Dong Jianhui's icy stare, he couldn't help but shiver, his pupils constricting slightly. He was shocked that a single comment had caused such a rapid and hostile change in the other's attitude. Damn it… He couldn't understand why Dong Jianhui had become so hostile so quickly, dropping all pretense of civility. What was going on?
"I'm starting."
While Xiao Hao's mind was still reeling in confusion, Chen Fei's voice reached his ears. Chen Fei twisted his body slightly, and his golf club swung through a strange arc, striking the ball hard.
BANG!
The sound was so clear that it echoed in their ears, a testament to the power behind the swing. The ball exploded off the tee and soared into the sky.
After finishing his swing, Chen Fei glanced briefly in the direction of the hole, a faint smile spreading across his face. He turned to Xiao Hao and said with a smirk, "Admit it. You've lost."
"I've lost?" Xiao Hao was stunned for a moment before a thick sneer formed on his face. He waved his hand dismissively. "Did you get your head slammed in a door? You just randomly hit a ball and now you're telling me I've lost…"
He hadn't even finished his sentence when a voice came through his earpiece, "The ball is in! Young Master Dong's ball is in the hole!"
The ball was in?
Really in?
Dong Jianhui, Xiao Hao, and even Guo Kun and the others watching from off the course froze, their mouths hanging wide open in utter disbelief.
This was no joke. Young Master Dong's first tee shot had been terrible, landing in a poor position. And now, a hole-in-one!? Was this for real? Yet the club staff had already confirmed it. A hole-in-one.
Ignoring Young Master Dong's disastrous first shot, this unknown kid's stroke... it really was a hole-in-one! At this realization, Young Master Xiao Hao's face flushed with shame. He never imagined something like this could happen.
"You, you, you…" He pointed a trembling, furious finger at Chen Fei, but he was so angry he could only sputter, unable to form a coherent sentence through his clenched teeth.
"Me? What about me?" Chen Fei's lips curled up as he spoke lightly. "I was lucky. A single shot, and it seems I won. That being the case, the three million, and our other little bet… I trust Xiao Shao hasn't forgotten?"
"You!" Xiao Hao's face turned as foul as if he'd swallowed a dead mouse. Only then did he remember their "high stakes" bet.
He had been so sure of his victory. He'd only needed one, maybe two more shots at most, to sink his own ball. But now… now that damn kid had actually scored a hole-in-one. A hole-in-one! What did that mean? It meant he, Xiao Hao, had lost three million. It meant that he, Xiao Hao, had to shout 'I admit defeat!' three times in front of everyone! No! That was absolutely unacceptable! Absolutely, positively impossible! Who was he? What was his status? If he did something so humiliating in public, how could he ever show his face in Tongzhou, the provincial capital, or anywhere in Jiangnan again? He would become a complete laughingstock!
As this thought tore through him, his panic-stricken face twisted into a grimace. He pointed a finger at Chen Fei and bellowed, "You cheated! You must have cheated! This round doesn't count! We're doing it over!"
"What do you mean by that, Xiao Hao? Are you trying to go back on your word?" Dong Jianhui's expression darkened as he spoke in a stern, menacing tone. Trying to back out and cheat right in front of him? Did he really think Dong Jianhui was a pushover?
