Medical Sage

Chapter 0026: Magical Surgery

At night, the world outside the car window was silent. Inside, both Gao Zhinan and Huang Feng were lost in their own thoughts, making the atmosphere strange and filled with an inexplicable quietness. After about twenty minutes, Gao Zhinan parked the car smoothly in front of the Central Hospital.

"Doctor Chen, please follow me." Huang Feng got out of the car without hesitation, opened the door for Chen Fei, and respectfully led him into the hospital.

Meanwhile, Feng Juan was waiting anxiously outside the operating room. When she finally saw Huang Feng respectfully leading a young man over, she was taken aback for a moment before rushing up to them. "Xiaofeng, Old Gao, where is Doctor Chen?" she asked.

"Ahem, Mom, this is Doctor Chen," Huang Feng said with an embarrassed cough, introducing him with all seriousness.

"What!?"

Upon hearing this, Feng Juan's eyes went wide. Even with her usual composure as a university professor, she couldn't help but gape, her eyes bulging as she pointed at Chen Fei and stammered, "Old Gao, he… he's the 'Divine Doctor' you were talking about?"

If her own son hadn't been the one to say it, she would have thought she was dreaming or that he had lost his mind. The Divine Doctor, who Gao Zhinan claimed had made the Central Hospital's two aces—Dr. Liu Changshan and Dr. Xu Zhenxing—feel inferior, was just a young man in his twenties? How is that possible? What kind of joke is this? If word of this got out, countless medical professionals would surely curse them out. What kind of status did Dr. Liu Changqing and Dr. Xu Zhenxing hold? They couldn't be subjected to such wild talk.

"Sister-in-law, don't talk nonsense. This really is the Doctor Chen that Old Huang and I told you about. His medical skills are brilliant; I saw it with my own eyes..." Gao Zhinan's expression changed slightly at her words. Disregarding decorum, he pulled Feng Juan aside and began whispering urgently, his tone almost impolite.

Chen Fei, on the other hand, had long grown accustomed to being looked down upon and simply smiled nonchalantly. He turned to Huang Feng beside him. "Young Master Huang, I'll go in and check on Deputy Mayor Huang's condition now. Unless it's an emergency, don't let anyone disturb me. Understood?"

"Rest assured, Doctor Chen. I'll guard the door myself," Huang Feng immediately promised.

Chen Fei nodded and walked into the operating room.

Inside the operating room, Huang Tao was lying on the surgical bed with his eyes closed, resting. Suddenly, the door opened.

Chen Fei walked in with a smile, wearing a white coat. "Mayor Huang, hello. We meet again," he greeted.

Upon hearing this, Deputy Mayor Huang felt utterly mortified. He forced an awkward smile and said, "Xiaofei—oh, no, Doctor Chen. It's my fault for being so foolish… You warned me before, but I didn't believe you, and now look what's happened. I'm truly ashamed."

Clearly, he wouldn't dare call Chen Fei "Xiaofei" again; the very thought of it scared him.

"Don't say that, Mayor Huang. What I said was just speculation, with no guarantee it would come true. Let me examine your injuries first," Chen Fei said as he stepped forward.

"Doctor Chen, is my injury serious? Will there be any long-term complications? How long will I need to be hospitalized?" Huang Tao asked anxiously, remembering the urgent matter as Chen Fei began the examination.

He had a lot of work on his plate recently and couldn't afford to spend too much time in the hospital. Naturally, he hoped to be discharged as soon as possible.

"Your injury isn't too severe, Mayor Huang," Chen Fei said with a smile after the examination. "I'll perform a bone-setting procedure. After a period of rest, you should be fine."

"A period of rest? Doctor Chen, may I ask how long that period is?" Huang Tao asked, his heart skipping a beat.

"About one or two months," Chen Fei estimated, counting on his fingers.

"What? One or two months!?" Huang Tao's expression changed, a hint of panic in his voice.

"Is there a problem, Mayor Huang?" Chen Fei couldn't help but ask, finding his reaction strange.

"Well, it's like this, Doctor Chen…" Huang Tao looked conflicted but finally sighed and explained his work situation. He simply didn't have time to stay in the hospital.

"I see…" Chen Fei stroked his chin, his eyes narrowing slightly. "So, you need to be discharged as soon as possible, correct?"

"Exactly. Doctor Chen, is there any way you can help me?" Huang Tao asked immediately, latching onto Chen Fei's expression.

"Let me think," Chen Fei said after a moment of silence.

"Doctor Chen, you…" Huang Tao's eyes lit up with excitement. He hadn't imagined that his desperate shot in the dark would actually prompt such a response. Let him think… Does that mean he really has a way to help me?

In that instant, Huang Tao's reverence for Chen Fei deepened. He immediately clamped his mouth shut, quieting the words about to spill out as he waited for Chen Fei to think.

"Alright. Since you've asked, Mayor Huang, I'll help you this one time," Chen Fei said after a moment's thought. "However, I have to warn you first: everything you are about to see must be kept in absolute secrecy. You cannot reveal it to anyone. Understood?"

Huang Tao's face lit up with joy, and he nodded without hesitation. "No problem! Rest assured, Doctor Chen. I will keep my lips sealed and won't breathe a word of this to anyone. You can count on me."

Just as Huang Tao finished speaking, a faint glow emerged from Chen Fei's palm. It was exceptionally dazzling under the dim lights of the operating room, causing Huang Tao's pupils to contract as his eyes widened in shock.

What is this?

His mind was full of questions, but he remained silent as promised, keeping his mouth tightly shut.

Chen Fei then walked over and began the bone-setting surgery on Huang Tao.

As his hands and the scalpel moved over his body and wounds, Huang Tao distinctly felt a mysterious, slightly cool power flowing through him. The sensation made him so nervous he didn't dare exhale.

It was only then that he finally understood. He understood why Chen Fei could predict his bloody misfortune for the night, and why someone so young possessed such astonishing medical skills. So that was why…

"It's done." After only ten minutes, a pale-faced Chen Fei finished the surgery. He wiped the beads of sweat rolling down his forehead and let out a long breath.

"Grand— Doctor Chen, are you alright?"

Huang Tao had instinctively started to call him 'Grandmaster,' but the word died on his lips as he remembered the oath he had taken. He quickly corrected himself. Looking at the clearly exhausted Chen Fei, he spoke with gratitude that was genuinely from the heart.

He could see that Chen Fei must have paid a tremendous price to complete the surgery so quickly. Had it not been for his own unreasonable request, this would have been a routine operation, and the doctor would not have been so drained.
