Chapter 312: Spending Money Like Water

"Ten million?" Chen Fei asked, a hint of uncertain hesitation in his voice.

"Ten million?" The horse-faced, wide-footed man sneered, pillowing his hands behind his head and leaning back against a nearby stone. He shook his head as if he'd heard something ridiculous. "What can you even buy with 10,000,000? Maybe if it were US Dollars... I'm talking about 100,000,000."

"Uh..." The corner of Chen Fei's mouth twitched. It wasn't out of embarrassment, but sheer surprise at how expensive the item was.

However, money wasn't that important to him anymore. Besides, he wasn't short on cash, and this Human-Faced Polygonatum was an essential ingredient for one of his medicinal formulas. He absolutely could not pass it up.

With that thought, he decided to cut to the chase and nodded. "Fine. How do we make the transaction?"

"You agree?" The horse-faced, wide-footed man was taken aback, his expression a mixture of surprise and bewilderment. He never imagined Chen Fei would actually agree to spend 100,000,000 on the Human-Faced Polygonatum. While people like them no longer valued money as much as others, 100,000,000 was still far from a small sum.

In fact, when Chen Fei first asked to buy it with money, the man's initial instinct was to refuse. He didn't think any amount of money could sway him, so he had intentionally named the absurdly high price of 100,000,000, hoping Chen Fei would take the hint and leave him alone. But now, to his shock, the guy had actually agreed.

Alright then... 100,000,000. He had to admit, he was completely tempted now.

"They should have a machine for card payments inside the Tian Kui Pavilion. Shall we head over now?" he asked with a grin, his attitude toward Chen Fei growing noticeably more polite. For one, Chen Fei was now his big spender. Secondly, while his own background was nothing to scoff at, encountering someone who treated 100,000,000 like a few hundred was reason enough to be cautious. People like that usually had formidable backgrounds that you didn't want to cross.

"A special machine? A POS machine?" Chen Fei's mouth twitched again, the entire situation feeling surreal.

"Of course. We can't very well use cash for a sum this large, can we?" the man said matter-of-factly, before leading Chen Fei to the Tian Kui Pavilion to complete the transaction.

After Chen Fei successfully acquired the Human-Faced Polygonatum and walked out of the Tian Kui Pavilion with a smile, Captain Pei, who had been trailing him, hesitated for a moment before leaning in to whisper, "Captain Chen, surely that herb isn't worth that much money, is it?"

"Not worth that much? It doesn't matter. As long as I don't feel it's a loss, it's fine." Chen Fei was well aware he'd been 'ripped off,' but he didn't think it was a big deal. For him, it wasn't a loss.

After all, in his current situation, rapidly increasing his strength was the most important and appealing goal. Everything else was secondary. If he could condense nine or more strands of the Sword Qi of Sanyang True Fire as quickly as possible, his power would grow to an incredible degree. Just the thought of it was enough to make his blood pump with excitement.

Hearing Chen Fei's reasoning, Captain Pei was taken aback, but he quickly shut his mouth. Indeed, a 'master' has his own way of thinking. Since Chen Fei didn't consider it a loss, there was no need for him to say anything more.

"Let's go. We're continuing! Today, I'm going on a major shopping spree!" Chen Fei declared, turning back toward the Green-brick Plaza Trading Area outside the Tian Kui Pavilion, his eyes practically glowing with determination.

He had at least two or three billion on him, after all—all won from the Hong Kong Galaxy Jiutian without breaking a sweat. He was eager to spend every last cent of it here in Tian Kui Market today! Because to him, that was where its true value lay! That was what would truly benefit him!

And so, Chen Fei began his splurge in the trading area of Tian Kui Market, spending money without batting an eye.

His second target, for instance, was a thumb-sized piece of Green Jade Cicada Slough. The stall owner was initially unwilling to trade for money, but when Chen Fei offered a high price of 70,000,000, the man's firm resolve crumbled completely. After all, let's be honest—even if he didn't care much for money, such a huge sum would tempt anyone, right? Not to mention, he had been prepared to sell it for 30,000,000 or 40,000,000 anyway. He'd acquired the item elsewhere for only 3,000,000. This was a twenty-fold profit in an instant—practically daylight robbery!

Next, Chen Fei moved on to his third target, a piece of Purple Jade Coral that could only be found in the deep sea. It possessed great medicinal value and was extremely rare. He called out a sky-high price of 120,000,000 and, not surprisingly, successfully acquired it.

Then, his smile widening, he strode toward his fourth target: a Snow Bamboo Shoot Heart that grew only on high, snowy peaks. He bought it for 30,000,000.

Then came the fifth item, the sixth, and so on...

Chen Fei, having lost track of how much money he'd spent, suddenly began to laugh. So this is what it feels like to be a spendthrift! It's freaking awesome! No wonder so many people love to go on shopping sprees. People always talk about squandering money with scorn and disapproval, but right now... Honestly, this feels pretty damn good, doesn't it? Like a shot of adrenaline.

He recalled Deputy Instructor Wang Dashan saying that most people here preferred to barter rather than accept money. But after he started throwing so much cash around, he found that the situation had changed completely.

So money does have its uses. As the saying goes, money makes the world go round. Hahaha, I can be as willful as I want!

Obviously, the sudden appearance of a freak who treated money like water immediately drew a lot of attention. The vendors selling their treasures, in particular, couldn't hide their strange expressions as they stole glances at Chen Fei. They were clearly tempted. While their status might allow them to ignore a few million, or even tens of millions, once the number crossed into nine figures—over 100,000,000—few people present could truly remain unmoved.

After all, let's face it: though their wares were valuable, even if they shamelessly inflated the price, the most they could ask for was a few tens of millions. That was a completely different league from a hundred million. And so, many of them were already drooling, staring intently at Chen Fei and hoping this big sucker would wander over to their stall and make them a fortune. An opportunity like this didn't come around every day.

"Friend, how much for this piece of Ran Yunmu?" Chen Fei asked, squatting in front of another stall. He looked up at the vendor while inspecting a gnarled piece of wood as thick as an infant's arm.

"Friend, just pay what you think is fair. How about... this much?" The vendor, clearly an 'honest' man, got a jolt of excitement the moment this sucker squatted down. His beady eyes narrowed into gleeful slits as he held up three fingers.

"Thirty million? Fine..." Chen Fei started to reply automatically. He'd already thrown away so many 30,000,000-unit sums that a price like this no longer fazed him in the slightest.

"Ahem!" The vendor cut him off, declaring righteously, "Thirty million? I said three hundred million!"

Obviously, these vendors weren't fools. After seeing Chen Fei's blatant 'scavenging,' even an idiot would realize he was urgently collecting raw materials for some recipe or purpose. That's why he was spending money like water. An extremely rare opportunity like this was a pie falling from the sky, a dream come true that they had to seize! First, they'd 'honestly' make a huge profit off him. After all, this guy never seemed to bargain, did he?

But he was completely wrong. Chen Fei stared at him with an odd expression. After a moment of silence, he asked, "Tell me, are you a fucking idiot?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" the vendor's face darkened, his tone turning ugly.

"What do I mean? What do you think I mean?" Chen Fei snorted, getting to his feet. He shook his head, a corner of his mouth twisting in a sneer. "If you're not an idiot, are you taking me for one? Did you really think I was some big sucker? Let's go. On to the next one." He turned and started walking toward the next stall without a backward glance.

"Wait, wait! Friend, let's talk this over. If you have other conditions, just name them," the vendor said, his face flushing slightly as he realized he might have pushed too far. He lowered his voice.

"Conditions?" Chen Fei stopped. "You really think your Ran Yunmu is worth that much? I was originally going to be charitable and buy it for 30,000,000. But now... it's 3,000,000. Take it or leave it."

"Three million? Are you messing with me?" The vendor's expression was grim, his voice turning cold. "This piece of Ran Yunmu is worth at least 10,000,000, and you're offering me 3,000,000?"

"So what if I am? You wanted to sell something worth 10,000,000 for 300,000,000. Are you daydreaming? Idiot." Chen Fei gave the man a look one would reserve for an absolute moron, his lips curling in disdain.

He might not be short on money, but he wasn't about to indulge this kind of stupidity. I don't know who left their door unlocked and let this moron with an underdeveloped brain wander out. Does he really think I'm a sucker who's easy to scam?

"You dare insult me?"

WHOOSH!

The vendor's eyes turned vicious. A cold glint flashed across his ghastly face as he suddenly snatched a crescent-shaped Qimen Weapon from his stall and swung it maliciously at Chen Fei's head, clearly intending to kill
