Find a Troubled Girl after leaving the Guild

Chapter 156: The Name of Wotam

"Don't go forward yet."

Li Ang reminded, "To prevent traps."

Elaphia raised her hand, her magic power created flying blades, different from the ones that flew with them earlier, similar to the Silver Heart Sword, with hollow blades holding small energy balls emitting golden light.

The flying blades flew forward, aligned in an array, hovering close to the wall.

She released the flying swords for illumination, lighting up the stone chamber as bright as day.

The young girl raised her hand, continuing to manipulate magic power, the flying swords moved in the air, lightly touching every brick on the walls, ceiling, and floor, moving nimbly up and down, left and right, as if dancing in the air, and the blondie Douding who waved her hand was the conductor.

The spectacular manipulation of flying swords ended, Douding said calmly, "Conventional traps have been cleared."

Li Ang's team of four girls had originally been shocked by entering the Saint's Tomb, though Li Ang didn't understand what Zoe found so shocking, but now they were all awestruck by Elaphia's operation.

One of Elaphia's secret techniques, "Thousand Blades Symphony", was executed like a musical performance, and Li Ang even suspected that the name of this secret technique he saw on the panel was not even chosen by her, but by others based on the display of her power.

This move directly solved the difficulty of exploration, freeing the girls for independent activity.

However, unlike Elaphia who was engrossed in a stained glass painting on the wall, they all gathered around Li Ang, centering their actions on him.

"Who is sleeping here?" Andasu asked.

Dorothy grew up in a faith-based environment of the Wotam Sect, and ALulu couldn't believe there was such a place beneath the church she lived in, rendering them speechless, while Andasu remained unaffected.

"Saints." Li Ang uttered the word.

His words also made the Half Elf and Xiaoniu turn their heads over.

They actually recognized some, but were hesitant to believe such a thing could occur.

"Saints, if this really is the Saints' Tomb..."

Dorothy looked once more at the four sarcophagi and swallowed.

She's not a believer, so Li Ang felt she was considering something disrespectful.

Yet he couldn't blame her, whether from the conduct of a gamer in a previous life or the habits of most adventurers, their first thought is whether there are valuable burial items.

These are, after all, coffins of figures from legends... no, myths. For those who are unrestrained, the first thought is to open the coffins to take a look.

But Li Ang used his rationality to restrain himself.

First, ALulu was right in front.

Secondly, he had heard of instances where punishment was received for violating the graves of high-rankers, like those who stole offerings to the gods and were hunted down by a suddenly manifested high-tier divine creature.

Generally speaking, it's best not to touch tombs related to the divine system or offerings dedicated to gods.

"What is a Saint?" Zoe asked.

Andasu was equally puzzled.

As Elaphia indulged in the stained glass on the wall, Li Ang explained to them, "Do you know the meaning of 'Wotam' in the Wotam Sect?"

They naturally shook their heads in unison, so Li Ang began to explain.

Over long ages, many languages had appeared among various races and civilizations of Nebis.

The current "Nebis Universal Language" was actually selected by voting among the guild founders from their native tongues—so rumor has it.

In reality, although discussed, the decision was made to adopt the most widely used dialect pronunciation of Nebis at the time.

Why the pronunciation? Because this language was already used by the vast majority of Nebis people.

The various variants and dialects of the main language had different names, some none at all, and were accepted as inherent, natural ways of communication by local islanders.

The interconnections among many of Nebis's islands were not unheard of, and the same was true for language.

Yet, before the guild gradually connected the world, although some were aware of the problem of language uniformity, no one imagined a common language could cover such a wide range, with over seventy percent of people in almost every aerial realm able to communicate across islands, albeit with dialectal pronunciation differences.

This issue, along with the similar natural environment and culture of islands on either side of the Harmony Wall, was frequently debated by scholars.

Additionally, Nebis Universal Language retained an archaic language from before the transition, with the names of the Four Major Aerial Realms being the best known term from this ancient lexicon.

The same applies to the Wotam Sect before us.

Wotam, in ancient language, means "Divine Being."

What is a Divine Being? These were the disciples chosen by the Goddess as she walked among mortals, true followers of hers, thus also called "Saints."

Believers revered Saints, and even cultivators with extraordinary power in the sect hoped to achieve legendary status and become real "Saints."

But in the ancient era, whose time cannot be specifically counted, the four Saints were people blessed with the Goddess's divine power, truly blessed saviors, spreading the glory and will of the Goddess, assisting her in saving the world.

Therefore, Wotam actually refers to the four baptized deputies of the Goddess. When this sect was founded, they did not name it for the Goddess, because the worship and practice aimed for one to also become a "Wotam."

"I see."

Having listened, Zoe wasn't very surprised either.

Li Ang looked at her, smiling. This little fellow had also witnessed many legends herself, be it the Star Soul or the recently summoned Bahamut, both far more exaggerated titles than Saints.

"There are moments when the stories of gods manifest in reality," Andasu remarked, "When will the traces the Beast God left in this world be seen?"

The beast-eared maiden thought of the Yunxiang Race's matters.

"Saints, stories told by our companions constantly, stories from childhood now turn real..."

Dorothy crossed her arms and sighed.

Indeed, although Star Souls and the Giant Dragon bearing the Creator God's name are peculiar, their power level is so high that they sometimes don't feel real, not to mention they still harbor many mysteries.

The shock of a tomb belonging to a legendary figure from a widely believed, existing religion is a completely different sensation.

"Is this really the Saints' Tomb? Could it be a forgery?" Dorothy asked again.

"It can't be fake."

ALulu said, "Teacher must know about this place. He's a devout believer; how could he forge the Saints' Tomb?"

The pink-haired girl certainly did not believe such a thing.

Li Ang, however, felt that it was normal for a Half Elf to have such suspicions. To put it in an earthly metaphor, it's somewhat similar to those Emperor Huang messages on Earth, where the ones with a problem are those who believe Emperor Huang truly lived.

In the current understanding of the vast majority, saints are purely legendary.

"Right, this can explain why the Bishop and the Defender Knight are here."

Dorothy said, "The resting place of the Saints, it's not an exaggeration to say it's the highest holy land of the entire Theocracy."

"But no one has ever entered this stone chamber."

Li Ang looked back at the path they came from. Now the entire stone chamber was illuminated by Elaphia, making the dust-covered path they came in clearly visible, showing only their footprints.

And the stone coffins were also covered in dust, with the lids shaped like Sleepers, obscured by a thick layer of dust, making the features indistinguishable.

The Half Elf shrugged and spread his hands, not wanting to speak.

"Let's take a look at these paintings first."

Li Ang walked to the first painting, with the girls following behind.

The middle upper part of the picture clearly depicted the Goddess of Kindness, smiling down at four kneeling figures, showing only their backs, and only their races could be discerned.

The four figures, from left to right, were two Humans, a Douding, and a member of the Horned Race.

"Is this the scene of the goddess baptizing the four saints?" ALulu asked.

"There are words below," Zoe pointed out beneath the mural.

Dorothy read the content aloud.

"'The Day the Wotamites Transcended from Mundane to Saint, Saint Alan Fanuo, Saint Lawrence, Saint Ginufite, Saint Zephyrinus, blessed by the goddess.'"

"'Saints' Chamber inaugurated, offered by Clement.'"

After reading, Dorothy took a deep breath and said,

"This place is indeed special. In the classic stories recorded in the Wotam Sect I heard before, they've never mentioned the real names of the saints; they were always referred to by nicknames."

"What were the nicknames?" Andasu curiously asked.

The Half Elf recalled, "It seemed to be something like Divine Power Saint, Divine Wisdom Saint or so."

ALulu supplemented, "And also Divine Might Saint and God Ai sheng."

Dorothy turned her head to look at the Horned Race young girl beside her.

"Zephyrinus? Isn't that—"

"It's the surname given to me by my teacher. Is he a descendant of the saint?" ALulu said in astonishment.

A descendant?

Li Ang contemplated those four names. If they were named from left to right based on the painting, Zephyrinus was the last Horned Race saint.

ALulu's teacher, according to her description, was a Human.

"Who is who in here?" Zoe wondered aloud as she observed the painting while reciting the four nicknames.

"I can't judge the others, but the Divine Power Saint is most likely this Horned Race man." Dorothy pointed to the painting, to the strong Horned Race man kneeling on one knee.

She continued, "Moreover, he was the one who perished in the battle against the Demon, who ultimately blended with the Earth through applying wood oil."

The girls were busy discussing the saints' nicknames while Li Ang focused his attention on the one offering the painting.

If the existence of the saint was ancient, then the person who offered the painting on the stone chamber inauguration day must be a later figure, perhaps related to the Wotam Sect.

"Clement? Have you heard of him?"

Li Ang didn't recognize this name, though he seemed to have heard it somewhere.

His four companions all looked bewildered, and both Dorothy and ALulu, familiar with the Wotam Sect, blinked and exchanged glances, having no answer.

At this moment, Elaphia spoke up from the side.

"The first Pope."

"You knew?" Li Ang turned toward her.

The Blondie Douding had been observing a glass mural, seemingly having seen enough, finally turned in the air on her Flying Sword.

"I've studied the history of the Wotam Sect, in pursuit of a weapon I seek."

The Blondie Douding indicated the wall she'd been looking at: "Searching for a long time without progress, I didn't expect to find new clues here."
