The Holy City's nocturnal landscape was even more magical; moonlight dripped along the edges of high-altitude clouds like a silver waterfall, enveloping the city, while the blue-violet arcane shield added a touch of mystique to the dark night.
At night in this city, just looking up, one could clearly feel they were in a different world. This was the Demon Disaster Realm, but the splendor of the Holy City allowed you to stand in a perilous aerial realm and still walk into the tranquil night with a calm heart.
However, tonight was much tenser for those in the know.
Li Ang stepped on the same type of flying blade as Elaphia, controlled by her, moving in tandem.
The two soared above the Adventure Area in the sky, cutting straight across the Central District Plaza, flying into the Old Town under the gazes of guild personnel.
Flying at will was not permitted in the Holy City, except for the Order Sky Knight Corps.
Hardly anyone dared to stop the famous Blondie Douding.
"Isn't this too high-profile?"
"Hm, merely the gazes of small fry."
The Old Town was bustling as ever at night. Unlike the modern city light streets of Flower City, it boasted an extreme medieval fantasy-style street view. Adventurers of various races, dressed in traveling attire, gathered in groups, either boisterously drinking or assembling for card games, with old-fashioned restaurants and taverns running nonstop.
Most of Nebis lacked the developed model found in Flower City, and most adventurers sent their earnings back home, enjoying entertainment at this pace.
But no matter the choice, it was life, and the Order Sky Knight Corps defended just that.
"The intruder has good timing," Li Ang remarked.
Elaphia nodded, "Don't know if it's a coincidence, but the Order Corps headquarters suggested several possibilities, one being 'a Demon with high magic power immunity accidentally intruding'."
"That's the best case, though I understand why you'd think so."
Li Ang shrugged, "After all, if they deliberately evaded the shield's defense, they'd be a troublesome formidable enemy."
He looked up, even now spotting the Order Investigation Corps' small flying airship patrolling the pale purple sky.
The two continued forward, and Li Ang opened the system's miniature map.
Before coming here, he wondered what kind of impressive hidden locations a place of this scale in the Holy City would have?
Sure enough, the system displayed lots of new information.
[Map: Holy Capital Vitas South Old Town]
[Exploration Rate: 35%. Merchant locations unlocked; increasing exploration rate can unlock special shops, hidden quest line prompts, and resource points. High exploration rate can unlock hidden locations.]
The vast Holy City was divided into numerous sections, each with different hidden spots.
Li Ang noted there were south and north divisions for both the Old Town and Adventure Area, while Flower City had three sections. Although the Central District was small, each tower was counted separately, accounting for four distinct areas.
The Holy City's area approached that of a second-tier provincial capital from his previous life, so despite living here during many years of adventuring, there were many places Li Ang had never explored.
Later, when free, he'd map the areas one by one.
Due to the system exploration rewards, Li Ang felt a sense of novelty.
Riding Elaphia's flying sword, shielded by the pure magic shield against fierce winds, they sped along, quickly reaching the Holy City's edge.
The buildings here were often supported by columns on island rocks, with swaying rope ladders or suspension bridges connecting some buildings. Despite protective nets below, one could still directly see the Bloody Red Land.
Elaphia descended with Li Ang into an alley where members of the Order Investigation Corps were already on guard.
Their insignia featured the V-winged flying airship and crossed swords.
Seeing Elaphia approach, the investigation team members nodded in acknowledgment, casting glances at Li Ang.
"Someone was killed here."
Blondie Douding led Li Ang into a house where several staff members were gathered.
An alchemist, masked and gloved, scraped material from the ground into a sealed container.
Li Ang frowned, "Are you collecting remains?"
"Yes."
The alchemist on the ground replied, "This civilian was home alone and happened to encounter the intruder."
Li Ang spoke in a questioning tone, mainly because the remains were terribly dissolved, almost entirely so.
Though used to seeing death in adventures, such a scene, as if chewed, swallowed, partially digested, then regurgitated, was rare.
Usually, Demons in Nebis wouldn't kill like this in a manner akin to Beasts.
"Were there other victims?"
"In a short time frame, the area of investigation isn't large." Elaphia pointed to the bustling Old Town, indicating the manpower required for such a task.
"Already placed requests with some Sky Knights skilled in detection, but it'll take some time to get new info."
Li Ang nodded and switched to the spiritual horizon.
With death, a being's spirituality dissipates; Li Ang wasn't looking to glean anything from the corpse but sought traces left by the attacker.
"Hmm?"
"What did you find?" Douding asked.
The entire room was filled with a strange atmosphere.
The spirit's concentration was higher than in usual air, especially outside, but even with the powerful spiritual observation ability of the spiritual horizon, pinpointing the specific issue wasn't immediate.
Spiritual perception was effective, yet Li Ang was certain of the presence of unconventional spirits here for other reasons.
