"Let's go!"
Zoe jumped up immediately, even transforming into a Celestial Maiden, with the airstream behind her propelling her to fly out of the inn's window.
"Thi-this," Dorothy was dumbfounded for a moment, then said anxiously, "Are you kidding me? Something like this? Even if you have those Curse Arts, you can't possibly escape from the Holy City, right?"
"Do you really not mind robbing a bank?"
"I-I'll just follow you anyway, I'm just wondering if you're playing a prank on us."
Andasu silently donned her equipment: "It's time to teach those who locked up master's assets a lesson."
ALulu pursed her lips: "Brother, the wealth in the bank also belongs to others who deposited it, isn't this wrong?"
Li Ang chuckled: "Just joking, it's actually about guarding the bank."
Seeing Xiaoniu with a serious face, he couldn't help but pat Xiaoniu's serious forehead, motioning Zoe to fly back and explain the situation of this mission to them.
"Hiding identity to slay a dragon? That sounds interesting too."
Zoe started imagining: "Since we're going into the bank vault, can we, can we..."
The young girl lowered her voice: "...quietly take a little."
Li Ang ignored her, just told the girls: "Get ready."
...
Schneider Mueller was staring at the water cup on his desk, his thoughts swirling.
He always felt like he had forgotten something, which shouldn't be an illusion. As an elite handling various affairs, his brain stays sharp at all times.
But once something is forgotten, it's completely forgotten, no matter how hard he tries, he can't dig it out of his brain.
Am I really getting old?
Schneider sighed and looked at the clock hanging on the wall.
4:40 PM, it was almost time for the routine daily access to Vault No. 1.
He couldn't help but recall that Sky Knight from before, who dared to cause trouble, despite offending the Celestial Group's Soul Apex, working for Yusef.
Bizarrely, he even managed to curry favor with the Knight Resolution Council, and that Order Flame Corps captain who backed him up, on what grounds?
Surely he didn't succeed just by being eye-candy? What did that noble lady see in him?
Schneider stood up and walked out of the office.
Seeing that slacking kid from before, his anger rose again.
If not for that jerk, Malonan wouldn't have covered his shift and wouldn't have been caught! Now there's no one managing the front desk, and he's lost count of how many complaints the bank received today! More than twenty!
"Go get the guard for me!"
The slacking youth stared intently at Schneider.
"What are you looking at? Go quickly!"
The youth stood up, and Schneider thought his pupils seemed to move in different directions for a moment.
Have I been exhausted these past few days, leading to hallucinations?
Schneider got a grip and saw the youth cross a pillar, after which a treasure vault guard escorting assets to Vault No. 1 came out from behind it.
He instinctively felt uncomfortable but didn't want to think further. Once the assets are delivered, he just wants to hurry home and rest.
Schneider thought about that man named Li Ang. Initially, he was prepared for Li Ang to show up, but he never did.
Dammit, if it weren't for the senator's support, I'd throw your personal safe right off the edge of the Holy City into the Bottom of the Sky!
He cursed under his breath while picking up the ledger and walking into a group of guards.
"Escort begins."
After Schneider spoke, the guards were momentarily stunned before lifting the large uniform storage case and heading inside the bank.
After stepping onto the solid downward staircase, taking three right angles in a rotation, only then did they see a flat road ahead.
On both sides were various treasure vaults and safes belonging to different forces and individuals.
The guards carried the box, staring straight ahead, their pace quickening.
"Hey, why are you going so fast! Rushing to reincarnate?"
Schneider cursed, quickly catching up.
Standing before Vault No. 1, Schneider slightly raised his gaze to look up at the metal door engraved with runes.
It stood six to seven persons tall, requiring five or six people to fully embrace it with extended arms unable to encompass its sides.
Each visit here left Schneider awestruck by the grandeur of the door.
This door boasted the Enhancing Magic cast by the guild's founder Fufu Feilin.
Schneider noticed the guards beside him all staring at the Magic Array with very odd expressions.
"What's going on?"
He murmured to himself, touching the door handle and pausing.
The Magic Array on the door should've emitted a reserved voice—"Holy Capital Bank manager key detected, Vault No. 1 opening."
That sweet voice, Schneider always thought it must belong to Fufu Feilin. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been stored here, nor be so lively and crisp, just like the character in stories.
But now, the door made no sound, as if it had already been opened.
The key could only be used once a day, and after use, whether the door was pushed open or closed upon departure, the door would remain dormant, just like now.
Sure enough, with a closer look, the door already had a gap.
Schneider couldn't figure out what went wrong, only felt as if he had fallen into an icy pit.
The guards went forward to push the door wide open, eagerly rushing inside.
Behind the door was a vast and grand underground hall, the walls densely lined with numbered safes on each section, reaching all the way up to the ceiling.
Underneath the walls, platforms and ladders were constructed, and even platforms built for convenience had various storage locations growing on their walls below.
In the hall, every so often there was a vault the size of a room, with heavy machinery and lock-casted magic arrays indicating that it might be easier to just move the whole thing to steal it.
At the very back of Vault No. 1, a massive metal door stood, storing not individual depositor's items, but the quantized and condensed valuable items of the Holy Capital Bank's main account.
Schneider was in a fog, not knowing what to do, habitually flipping through the ledger, comparing it with registration information to fill out deposit and withdrawal details, but no one came to help him transport the valuables.
The combined transport boxes were thrown to the ground by the guards, making a heavy thud.
Schneider was startled by the noise, came back to his senses, and an inexplicable anger arose.
"Hey! This will damage the customer's items! What on earth are you doing?"
He roared loudly: "You so want to get off work? Fine, you'll lose today's wages!"
Schneider was about to bend down to check whether the things inside the box were damaged when he saw the guards walking toward a row of safes nearby.
"That's a special account for celebrities, you don't have the right to get close, come back!"
Schneider saw the guards completely ignoring him, and immediately panicked, shouting at the guards inside the vault: "Come on! It's time for you to fulfill your duty, the escort guards have issues."
However, the guards inside the vault were also unmoved.
"Are we not going to take action?" On a platform, one guard was eager for action, and the smaller nearby guard tugged at her gloves.
The smaller one said, "Li Ang said, the best time to strike is when these baddies make a move."
The guards held back, but Schneider felt as if the sky was falling.
In front of him, an escort raised a hand and punched open a safe door.
"That's Lady Lores's special account! You're offending the Public Affairs Committee members!"
The other escorts also began their assault.
Schneider hurriedly shouted: "That's the Guild Treasury for the Seventh Celestial Group Cat Lovers Association, are you courting death?"
No matter how anxious he got, the guards inside Vault No. 1 remained unmoved.
A guard turned around, his eyes moved in different directions, and he gave Schneider a cold smile.
"Shut up!"
A burst of dazzling powder enveloped Schneider, colliding fiercely with his protective magic power.
Schneider's belt was an Excellence Realm protection item, capable of instantly neutralizing external attacks with pure magical energy, but just one hit nearly exhausted its stored energy.
He was sent flying, crashing into a wall, the handle of a safe striking his waist, leaving him breathless and unable to get up.
The guard who had given him the cold stare began to dissolve, frightening Schneider into screaming loudly.
But it was only the refractive magic layer on the surface dissolving, and in a burst of iridescent light, a pair of constantly changing butterfly wings unfolded behind him.
The butterfly wings were connected to a chameleon-like body; unlike ordinary chameleons, it seemed like colored rivers flowed beneath its skin, changing in a dreamlike fashion.
"Hiss—noisy human."
"It-it's a demon!"
Schneider rolled and crawled toward the exit of the vault.
How did a demon enter the Holy City! What are those Order Knights doing!
"No need to hide anymore, hiss—"
The dreamy butterfly dragon flicked its tongue, speaking, and with its words, several other guards who had come in also dissolved on the surface, transforming into the same butterfly winged dragons.
However, their iridescent colors were much less impressive.
These creatures immediately began attacking the surrounding vaults, destroying doors, but not looting the items inside, simply scattering scale powder for amusement, igniting it with magic, turning it into chain-exploding magical attacks, directly destroying the fragile treasures.
The leading dragon vanished in a mist of scale powder, instantly teleporting in front of Schneider, using its soft yet tenacious tail usually curled behind it to wrap him tightly, hanging him in the air.
Though the dragon's body was less than two meters long, it easily carried Schneider up.
"You, you demons, what do you want in the bank vault..."
Schneider couldn't exert any strength.
My life ends here.
Just as he was losing all hope, a sharp voice pierced through the hall.
A guard discarded his clumsily assembled bulky armor and charged at a butterfly winged dragon with a short sword.
It was a small young girl, clad in golden scale skirt armor, creating a whirlwind as she ran, unfurling a golden ribbon of light.
The girl swiftly and accurately brought down her sword on the chameleon-like demon, causing it to sway and misaim its attack.
But from the girl's other palm spewed flame, consolidated into a blade, blocking the demon's path, and as its scaled hide curled and split from the burn, the Flame Blade pierced straight into its chest, ending its life.
Schneider finally saw clearly, in her hand was the elegantly styled hilt from which the Blade of Fire surged forth.
Seeing their kin slain, the surrounding butterfly dragons ceased their destruction, turning to scatter scale powder, seemingly preparing for teleportation attacks.
From afar, a red lightning bolt shot directly over, electrifying a flying dragon into a screech, one side of its butterfly wings blown apart, leaving it crawling on the ground.
On the platform, a lady with a graceful face, Yamei, extended a vine full of blood-red flowers from behind, entwining a charred magic staff, yet its energy was lethal to these demons.
Two flying dragons scattered scale powder, turning into iridescent ribbons in the air, their bodies slipping along the light band toward the half-elf girl.
A shield-wielding, well-built young horned race girl landed like a missile, delivering a shield strike, a heavy hammer, erupting divine energy to blast the two butterfly winged dragons away.
While the two dragons struggled for balance in the air, several explosions rang out consecutively, shrapnel raining down into their skins, as a figure leaped high, striking with fists as sharp as blades, targeting the weak spots.
The butterfly dragon holding Schneider turned around, hissing.
"Temporary hatchlings won't do, I'll have to come myself."
It tossed Schneider aside, shifting through the scale powder to a spot not far from the young girls.
As it was about to spread its wings, it suddenly felt the entire world slow down.
Li Ang stood aside, retracting the hand that cast the Slow Spell, then shaping multiple pure Demonic Wind Blades to slash directly.
