I Can See Health Bars in Real Life

Chapter 140: Prologue: New Beginnings (Part 2)

Not long after, he emerged from inside, cleaned up the traces, and then smoothly retraced his steps back to his room.

People find it difficult to perceive their own changes; perhaps even Gu Mo himself hadn't noticed that these swift and decisive actions indeed proved that the experiences over the past month had greatly affected and transformed him, almost to the point of being a rebirth.

It's not just the changes in abilities and methods, but also in thoughts and will—something the old him or anyone else probably wouldn't have done.

Most people are just plagued by the fear of loss, hesitant and thrifty, and this is the common state for most individuals.

Sitting in front of his computer, Gu Mo calmed himself and began to meticulously handle the editing, modifying the surveillance video files he had just copied... It's not exactly his profession, but he often hangs out on video websites, and sporadically uploads some videos—not for fame or livelihood, but simply out of a sudden whim and interest.

However, he does have some basic grasp and understanding in this area, and it can now be put to use.

Of course, because he's not a professional, it certainly can't be called flawless with no trace of a mistake, or rather, the flaws are quite apparent, unable to deceive professionals, which Gu Mo is well aware of. However, he knows he doesn't need to reach that level, just enough to deal with those amateurish individuals in the neighborhood.

After all, this is just a very ordinary neighborhood...

Besides, even if it's not Old Ding, who is renowned for his "not a single word from his mouth can be trusted" persona, would it be any different if a somewhat normal person claimed the place was haunted?

When the surveillance is checked and no issues are found, the matter is basically over. Even the person involved might start doubting themselves—who really would believe such absurd claims and cling to them relentlessly?

Gu Mo would still keep an eye on it, and if someone that nosy actually shows up, he would handle it then. Anyway, the surveillance footage in the neighborhood doesn't last long—two weeks or so, he couldn't quite remember, but soon nothing will be left.

So—there shouldn't be any problem!

......

The time on the digital clock on the table gradually passed, and Gu Mo spent quite some time, finishing the final touches at around five in the morning.

He felt he had done everything he could, likely enough to fool Director Zhang and other older non-professionals unfamiliar with these, so he decided not to dwell further. Instead, he took advantage of the still-dark sky, the city still shrouded in night, and the neighborhood in general slumber—

He went out again, repeating the same trick as he entered the monitoring room, replacing the real surveillance of a particular period last night with his own creation.

Well, this should do it, creating a world where no one gets hurt.

Gu Mo felt he had done a good deed by stopping the ghost rumors from persistently reappearing in the neighborhood... Considering the house prices here were already somewhat low, continuous drops due to such reasons would likely cause everyone harm, wouldn't it?

Returning to his room once more, Gu Mo picked up his fully charged phone from the bedside in his bedroom. Having charged and powered it on shortly after coming back, he checked how many unread messages he had accumulated during this period. Fortunately, as he expected, just a month of quiet, this scenario, relatively speaking, falls within normal bounds...

This was the regular life pace maintained by him who is somewhat of a homebody, so it didn't cause much of a stir.

First, there were a few innocuous messages in the "Fishing Alliance" group; it seemed everyone was quite busy, and if it wasn't holiday season, interactions were quite sparse.

Hmm, this was originally the group from the university dorm known as "402," which was just the dorm number. It later had names like "Firekeeper," "×× and his useless silly roommates," and many other strange names. Eventually, post graduation it settled into its current state.

Then there was the group now called "Family of Love," which didn't have much information either. Upon clicking in, it was filled with eye-rolling middle-aged memes, "Cheers to our friendship.jpg" could be seen everywhere, interspersed with motivational messages and fake knowledge sharing.

Occasionally it hosted a few sure-to-be-costing-cents red envelopes, leaving one with zero desire to click on them.

The latest messages were from two days ago and did mention him—

Though mostly it was his enthusiastic aunt urging him on, talking about matchmaking, mentioning whose daughter from back home had turned into a beauty, how it was time for him to hurry and find a wife and have kids, or it would be too late in a couple of years...

Although he hadn't replied immediately, his parents repeatedly stepped in to resolve it, saying not to rush as their son had just graduated and such.

After reading all the unread messages, Gu Mo set the phone down with a complex expression. While it was good that there were no issues, why did it still feel so odd somehow? Throughout his absence from the real world, his most frequent correspondent, sending messages every now and then, turned out to be China Unicom.
