I Can See Health Bars in Real Life

Chapter 13: Yellow Springs (Part 2)

Although lacking in fortune affinity, and still a "money controller," compared to the eye-opening expression towards money, the heart of that impoverished Nameless God holds something more important to uphold... or maybe it hasn't reached the level of upholding yet, not even a decision with determination like an awakening.

Yato is just subconsciously unwilling to return to that cursed, sorrowful fate of the past, choosing to hold onto such a thought whenever he has a choice.

But this in itself is already a rare thought and awakening. Many penniless trailer-end Nameless Gods like him perish not because they are not diligent enough, but because their awakening is lacking. Clearly, the times have changed, many things no longer follow the old rules, yet they stubbornly live in their own worlds—

The most direct and simple example is that many things or professions, which were only prevalent in the past or only had a market back then, have disappeared with the transformation of times, and Gods and spirits born out of wishes and reverence for them naturally find it difficult to extract enough faith from them anymore.

Under such circumstances, let alone maintaining the powerful Power of the Divine Spirit, even maintaining one's existence becomes extremely difficult, and once the internal competition truly intensifies to a certain extent, those who cannot comprehend the Law of survival of the fittest are naturally the first ones to be eliminated.

The essence of faith in Gods is not unchangeable; born because of faith, perishing because of faith, naturally they can also change because of faith...

Now, although Yato does not have a clear goal yet, or the idea of transitioning to a new Domain, at least he is already pondering about changing his aspect as a Calamity God. As long as he no longer returns to his past old practices of murder and revenge, perhaps he really can gradually shed his past image of a Calamity God and be reborn with a new appearance on his current path.

Although, in his current way of helping humans fulfill various trivial wishes to achieve this, it will inevitably make the process extremely long, even if he succeeds in the end, the new divine position probably won't have a nice title—

Repairing water pipes, searching for cats and dogs, delivering parcels, running street stalls, even once being extreme enough to become a host... Gods who are remembered for such things are unlikely to ever be the kind of respectable, beloved, and revered formal Gods...

Gu Mo sighed softly and turned around, looking at the depths of the alley: "I will borrow your name for now, as a return, I will give you an explanation..."

Having said this, he paused for a moment and eventually did not continue speaking.

No guarantee would make sense anyways, and he himself doesn't know what's best, so it might be better to let the other party decide at that time. That's how retribution works, the perpetrator accepting judgment from the victim, this is the fairest path.

Looking at a certain pottery jar icon in his inventory, Gu Mo seemed to have an idea.

Taking one last look here, Gu Mo also turned and left the alley.

However, after crossing just a few blocks, he could see from a distance that there seemed to be an accident at the end of the street—

A small car was suddenly stopped sideways in the middle of the road, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers, and right in front of the car's headlamps, in the middle of the road, was a girl lying motionless.

The two girls nearby were probably her classmates, eyes red with fear, teary-eyed, kneeling beside her, shouting frantically for help, reaching out to push but not daring to touch her body.

People around them were pointing and murmuring, some calling for help loudly, or taking out phones to call an ambulance... and across the road from the traffic-blocking crowd was the girl's Soul, staring blankly at the scene, standing next to the poverty-stricken God who had just screamed and run away.

Yato looked troubled, probably thinking he encountered a troublesome situation.

Gu Mo stood far away on the other side watching this scene, roughly recalling the corresponding scene in the original plot—

As a God wandering between the hereafter and the afterlife, Yato had no necessity to adhere to the traffic rules of the real world, but unexpectedly, when crossing the road, the heroine behind happened to see him and recklessly tried to save him from getting hit by a car...

The result was predictable; Yato was fine, but the girl's Soul detached from her body...

Fortunately, the former lent a helping hand and saved the latter, or else, it would have been a short-lived beauty...

However, Gu Mo frowned lightly, feeling that his intrusion should have changed some things and induced a butterfly effect, like in the original fate trajectory, Yato was supposed to take on a commission of finding a cat and saw it across the road, then prepared to rush over.

And because it happened when the heroine was returning home from school, she saw him in that moment of reckless abandon, prompting her to instinctively try to save him, leading to the subsequent series of events.

But now... is this narrative inertia?

Gu Mo mused, perhaps this is the only way to contemplate the situation for now. However, he did not go over to intervene, as dealing with Soul detachment and similar issues is beyond his capability, and if Yato, assuming the Martial Arts Faction identity, worried about handling it poorly and asked for his help...
