Chapter 18: "God Will Save Us" (Part 3)

Gu Mo didn't know what expression he should wear, because out of so many dropped items, none were particularly good, instead, they were a bunch of miscellaneous materials, with "Soul Fragments" being the most abundant, as the name suggests, remnants of fragmented souls.

These could be used as materials or directly as Blue Medicine, to replenish Spiritual Power or Special Energy, but they might come with the disturbance of the memories of the deceased when alive.

Besides these, there were some Monster materials from demons, bizarre claws, disgusting, deformed eyeballs, appearing not completely material in form, some seemingly more like crystallized Soul Bodies, presenting a semi-transparent eerie quality, feeling light and weightless in the hand, carrying a trace of dreary chilliness.

Whether useful or not, since there's no limit on inventory slots, which is one of the few conscientious aspects of this silly system, Gu Mo just grabbed them all.

Finally, there were a few Skill Badges, of a most subtle nature—"Vehicle Repair LV1", "Japanese Cuisine LV3", "Motor Vehicle Operation LV1"… things like that.

It turned out that killing monsters really could yield Skill Badges, although the drop rate was slightly disappointing, in this wave alone, I don't know how many hundreds or thousands were slain, only to drop these few Skill Badges, no wonder during the Warring States Era, not even one was acquired.

And such subtle ones… Gu Mo had reasons to suspect they all belonged to those undead, or the Skills mastered when alive by fallen demons.

After confirming the battlefield was thoroughly cleaned without anything overlooked, he returned to the previous alley to handle it, completely purging the residual Mortal World aura drawn by the "Yellow Springs", this was not only to clean up his own mess but also to cover up the things in his own hands.

After finishing all this, Gu Mo then left the scene.

Body and mind exhausted, he planned to find a place to settle down, to have a good rest for a couple of days before talking, if it weren't for enough Divine Water, his current exhausted state might have led him to not even walk.

And soon after he left, in those surrounding residential buildings, many people could not sleep, for them, tonight was destined to be a sleepless night. At least until they forgot about the horrifying scenes they just witnessed not long ago, it was hardly possible to live with peace of mind.

A black, overwhelming tide…

A dense array of eyes…

Countless demons…

People around influenced by the gloomy air of time, indeed could see all this, only, many quickly hid, locking themselves in their rooms, turning off the lights, daring not to make a sound, not daring to do anything, unlike movie extras who die quickly by screaming, fearing not attracting attention.

Tonight, this remote city's corner was always so quiet.

Fortunately now everything has cleared up after the storm, smoke has dispersed, making them let out a big sigh of relief, though they still dared not make a sound casually, nor dared to go out to see… only the shocks in their minds remained, along with doubts about the world, and the shattering of their three views.

Perhaps they would quickly forget about the details of this event, yet some impressions would perhaps still be remaining.

Especially… someone wasn't a resident of the cracks, not having that feature that makes people quickly forget after seeing.

......

About a week had passed since the temporal transformation that night—

The city seemed unaffected, as always, very calm. Yato also was slightly relieved, he feared that person would not heed his advice, and directly waged war on the endless demons, breaking these rare peaceful days.

But now it seemed, maybe he was overthinking, the other party wasn't such a power-hungry person.

That day, Yato received a new commission, to find a lost kitty, which was one of his tasks that clawed at him. After all, as a Martial God, he was only proficient in blade and sword, not much adept at other abilities, nor at divination, searching for things was indeed his weak point.

Dead objects were still manageable, but a living creature running around on its own, trying to find it in the entire city was truly difficult, not to say a needle in a haystack, it was close.

But still, as said, he couldn't be picky, having a commission was already good enough, each order's income of incense and fateful ties could sustain his existence for a longer period of stability, so naturally, Yato didn't refuse, regardless of whether he could do it or not, he took it all.

Because he really couldn't find it anywhere, so as a godkeeping up with the times, Yato skillfully pulled out his phone to go online to see if there were any clues, preparing to post a help request on a local forum.

"Hmm? What's this…"

Just as he clicked the page, Yato's gaze slightly froze, a popular thread appeared on the front page.

——[The Gods Will Save Us]

Since it quite fit his taste, he decisively clicked in, quickly browsed through it, and his gaze became a bit strange. The poster was likely a firsthand experiencer of that temporal transformation phenomenon a week ago, only to forget the related memories soon after.

Yet for some reason, the person firmly remembered a "God"—

It was a young man with a majestic Snake Sword, his whole body shrouded in the Crimson Lotus Flame.

And because the poster had forgotten the related memories, it led to a memory blank gap, completely unaware of where he had seen such a presence, but just so coincidentally knew of such a "God", and it was deeply impressed upon him.

So due to this strange situation, he was convinced he had received divine inspiration.

The thread also exhorted his claims passionately, while being absolutely convinced, he also continuously eulogized and praised, angrily battling with bystanders, skeptical passers-by, and contrarians for three hundred rounds, spraying countless floors, with extremely impressive combat ability.

At first glance, resembling the manifestation of a fanatic.

With some surprised and uncertain feeling, Yato scrolled down, soon discovering as the posts' replies increased, other firsthand experiencers appeared, seemingly with the same situation, forgetting what exactly happened, but only having a deep impression of someone, the abrupt and strange phenomenon, paired with their subconscious lingering emotions from that night—

Terror, despair, fear, and the release and gratitude of being saved.

Thus, although they didn't know what happened, they just felt they were saved by the divine intervention, hence inexplicably demonstrating extra extraordinary piety and faith.

Yato, feeling conflicted, quit the thread, looked down at other posts, and quickly found many similar popular threads.

——[This World Will Be Judged]

——[Give Me One Minute, I Want to Tell You About Our Great God and Savior]

——[Embrace True Faith, Welcome the Dawn of a New Era]

"..."

He had a complex expression, was it really just overthinking, and not with any premeditation?
