I Can See Health Bars in Real Life

Chapter 20: Lurking in the Shadows (Part 3)

Despite his energy continuing to rapidly drain, both the Nine-tailed Possession and the White Viper Sword in his hand were like bottomless pits, voraciously devouring his Physical Strength and Spiritual Power, as they constructed pathways for the Power to flow through as the price.

Gu Mo felt a little regret and also strangely looked around, realizing that Yato indeed hadn't come over.

He initially thought that after noticing the issue, the God of Poverty would come over to take a look, and perhaps help him a bit with protection, allowing him to concentrate on offense without wasting too much on defense, thus possibly enhancing efficiency and persisting a bit longer.

However, for reasons unknown, since the battle began, Yato had no intention of coming over here... Whether he's preoccupied or prudently staying away, not planning to involve himself in this dangerous game of playing with fire remains unclear.

"Hmm?!"

As he was lost in his thoughts, another wave of dark demons rushed forward.

Gu Mo didn't think it over carefully, mechanically and monotonously swinging out a sword. As the dark tide shattered instantly, a shadow darted out from the demon crowd, reaching his front with dazzling speed.

"Hmm?"

What is that?

Lightly letting out a syllable, Gu Mo only managed to see an eerie mask with eyeball patterns. The next moment, in the air behind him, a distortion appeared, with the faint outlines of a massive, blazing Nine-tailed figure emerging, gently waving before abruptly disappearing.

The feeling was as though a presence possessing him waved its tail or as if he himself had suddenly grown a tail, which lightly swayed indeed.

In any case, the shadow wearing the eyeball-patterned mask, upon close proximity to Gu Mo's body, silently combusted into ashes.

Then swept away by the whirlwind triggered by the Ninety-nine Weapons, it vanished without a trace.

Gu Mo didn't even have the time to see clearly what it was; the Nine-tailed's Demonic Power was terrifyingly massive, casually obliterating the entity attempting a premeditated attack... Of course, it also drained quite a bit of Gu Mo's energy.

Gu Mo fell into a brief silence, surveying his surroundings, seeing a dense multitude of demons. Although he could see health bars, they were overlapping in layers, making it hard to distinguish. If any demons blended in intending to attack, it truly was difficult to guard against.

Demons wearing masks...

He tried hard to recall, but his memory remained blurred, unable to conjure specific details, only remembering that such entities seemed linked to Yato's "father?"

"How amusing, the son didn't lure him over, but the father did..."

As if nothing occurred, he continued sweeping through the surging monsters while casually observing all around him.

Yet, subsequently, no masked demons appeared again, conducting any sort of premeditated assaults, as if the earlier was merely a test...

......

"How strange... What is the origin?"

A lazy voice echoed in the dim room; aided by the moonlight outside and the city's dazzling lights, the room's simple layout was faintly visible, equipped with a desk, seemingly a student's bedroom.

"There's no impression at all, can't figure it out... Although it seems troublesome, I merely intended to check on my useless son, unexpectedly encountering such a person."

Sitting by the window was a silhouette, obscured by the darkness; vaguely discernible as a youth, the voice even sounded like a high school student with a subtle smile.

"Still, it's rather advantageous, with connections to the Yellow Springs... Something worthwhile to exploit, recently I've been pondering whether to find a scapegoat, and this person emerged..."

He seemingly conceived a plan, then glanced at another silent figure in the room—

"Chi, visit Yato tomorrow as well, share information about Visakha to detain him in this city..."

"Understood." A calm feminine voice replied.

"That's it." The person resembling a high school student grinned, gazing toward a distant direction. "What a peculiar Martial God... But since you bumped into my trap, let me gift you a grand surprise."

He formed an intention, preparing to fuel the flames, allowing the pawn destined for his schemes to gain prominence...

As long as all gods' attention is drawn, misguiding "Heaven" to falsely perceive that Martial God as the heretic to be eliminated, the ensuing endeavors to combat won't matter... Temporarily diverting the High Celestial Plain's focus provides him a brief respite.
