I Can See Health Bars in Real Life

Chapter 22: Hugh's "Chance Encounter" on the Day Off

Perhaps this is how heroes think alike.

One thinks they are in the dark while the other is in the light, believing that with a calculated mind they hold the advantage; while the other, for some reason, senses the autumn wind before it moves, and upon seeing a Masked Demon, immediately associates it with the suspect's true identity and prepares to report it.

That's probably it, anyway, it was only in a world where High Celestial Plain was seen as a knife that this was completed.

Thus, time swiftly passed by two more days.

On a morning this day.

"Speaking of which, Yato, are you really a god?"

In a street alley, Ichijima Hiyori stared suspiciously at the purple-haired, blue-eyed young man ahead, even though everything had already proved the facts. She really felt too strongly out of place, to the point where she increasingly doubted that something was wrong either with herself or with him.

"Huh?"

With a lollipop in his mouth, Yato asked this unclearly while holding a can of spray paint, spraying graffiti on the clean and tidy walls of the alley. His manner of not even turning his head suggested he hadn't quite heard what Ichijima Hiyori said.

Ichijima Hiyori glanced helplessly at the wall, where Yato's name and phone number were scrawled in bright red spray paint, along with advertising slogans that completely lacked any divine majesty, just promoting how diligently he did gigs, how quickly tasks were completed, and how cost-effective it was.

Is this any image of a Lord God helping people realize their wishes!

She pursed her thin lips and suspiciously repeated the question again.

"You... what do you mean by that? How do I not seem like it?" Yato's body stiffened, and he turned his head blankly. Although the girl asked without any malice, simply out of curiosity, it was precisely that which hurt him deeply. Mainly because a lot of people seemed to think this way after meeting him.

Not to mention the followers, even the Divine Artifacts despised him, and now it seems even Ichijima Hiyori feels this way... she's only been tagging along for a few days!

Does this mean I really exude no divine majesty?

At this moment, Yato couldn't help but question himself.

"Ahahaha, don't be so down, I was just asking... Since your appearance really does differ greatly from the gods I imagined."

Seeing the purple-haired young man turning all gray and white immediately, Ichijima Hiyori quickly waved her hand, forcing an awkward smile as she hurriedly explained: "Usually you wander aimlessly on the street, spend the night in abandoned small shrines, and even pick up trash on the street..."

Although being a part-time Divine Artifact, having gone on a couple of missions these past days, Ichijima Hiyori naturally knew the kind of life this self-proclaimed god lived every day. While she might not know it thoroughly, she generally understood his routines.

It's basically as she described, just looking at the surface, he's completely like a lazy unemployed bum, a drifter with nothing to do, a loafer... so her doubts are normal and not meant as a deliberate attack, just pure curiosity.

But it's this very explanation that made Yato feel even more like he had been pierced through the chest with a spear—

Suffering an extremely severe critical hit.

From an outsider's perspective, listening to others, it really seemed like he was a leech on society, indeed having none of a god's majestic bearing! D-damn, could this be why he has never managed to gather stable belief and his Divine Artifacts keep jumping ship, unable to stay long term?

Thinking of this, he clutched his fist tightly, covering his heart with his other hand, almost feeling an urge to cry, but still tried hard to defend himself:

"I... I don't want this either, I don't even have a Shrine, nor have I left any name legend, even if someone once remembered me, they couldn't have lived to this era..."

—Why the "Nameless God"?

—It's naturally because in this era, his name hasn't been continually spread.

When those who knew him, remembered him, and had connections with him have all died out, he naturally becomes a Nameless God in this era. And when the faith line anchoring his existence no longer exists, he has just two choices; either accept fate and slowly fade away, or start from scratch...

Starting from scratch isn't about challenging himself, it's purely out of necessity, with no foundation, nobody knows him, believes he's a god, so what options does he have?

Besides, there's already a dearth of those who are fated, and it's hard to expect those coming to him with the mere thought of "as long as it's just five yen, some faith is enough" to make crucial and important requests. Usually, they mostly request trivial matters.

Not because they're looking for lost cats and dogs, or searching for lost items, facing such situations, what can he do... there's no room for pickiness. If things could be more dignified, with more decent wishes, he wouldn't want to roam aimlessly on streets every day, scavenging through trash everywhere!
