Lin Xiao's principles for life were very simple:
If others don't bother me, I won't bother them.
If you bother me, I will see you dead.
So, when Huang Xingcheng behaved so recklessly, practically courting death, Lin Xiao naturally wasn't going to indulge him. It was only because Chu Xiangxue and Pei Yanzi were still present. Otherwise, how could Lin Xiao possibly let him be so presumptuous? He would have slapped him senseless long ago.
"Chugging from the bottle? How exactly do you want to do it?" Lin Xiao asked with a smirk.
Huang Xingcheng smiled. "Of course, it means finishing a bottle in one go. You're not scared, are you, Brother Lin?"
Just as Lin Xiao was about to speak, Chu Xiangxue suddenly cut in, her tone flat. "Huang Xingcheng, are you here to drink or to have a drinking competition?"
It was clear Chu Xiangxue was getting angry.
Yet Huang Xingcheng mistakenly thought Chu Xiangxue was worried about him. He laughed and said, "Xiang Xue, don't worry, we're just drinking. But for us men, it's more fun to devour our meat and chug our liquor, right, Brother Lin?"
Lin Xiao nodded. "Yes, you're right. Devouring meat and chugging liquor is much more fun!"
Hearing Lin Xiao's agreement, Huang Xingcheng grew even more excited, because he knew this filthy beggar was about to make a complete fool of himself.
Huang Xingcheng beamed. "So, Brother Lin, shall we start?"
"Hold on."
A flash of contempt crossed Huang Xingcheng's eyes. "What's the matter, Brother Lin? Scared?"
Lin Xiao just shrugged. "Drinking one bottle at a time isn't exciting enough. How about this? We drink two bottles each."
Huang Xingcheng's expression faltered. His tolerance for alcohol was genuinely impressive, but his limit was two jin at most. Drinking another full bottle would already push him to his absolute limit, especially since he'd already finished one. He never expected this filthy beggar would dare to challenge him so arrogantly.
Where did he get this courage from?
Huang Xingcheng was no longer amused. Forcing back his anger, he sneered, "Fine. Since you insist on... on drinking like this, then of course I'll see it through to the end. But I have to ask, Brother Lin, how exactly are we going to drink two bottles at once?"
"That's easy," Lin Xiao said casually.
He then called a waiter over and asked for two massive bowls. Without another word, Lin Xiao grabbed two bottles of liquor and poured them both into his bowl.
Not to be outdone, Huang Xingcheng copied him, emptying two bottles into his own bowl as well. In no time, two huge, brimming bowls of liquor sat before them.
Lin Xiao smiled. "Mr. Huang, shall we?"
"Fine!" Huang Xingcheng said with disdain. Despite his words, he waited until he saw Lin Xiao lift the large bowl and start drinking before he finally picked up his own.
The pungent fumes of alcohol assaulted his nostrils, and Huang Xingcheng's brow furrowed. He knew, honestly, that he was doomed if he drank this entire bowl. His limit was two jin, and anything over that was a guaranteed trip to vomit city. He had tested this limit more than once.
Still, Huang Xingcheng considered himself a man who could drink Maotai like it was water. Even so, his limit was only two jin.
I refuse to believe this filthy beggar, who's probably never even tasted Maotai, can outdrink me.
With this thought, Huang Xingcheng deliberately began to drink slowly. He was waiting. Waiting for the moment this beggar in front of him would admit defeat. He was sure that moment would arrive very soon.
As Huang Xingcheng was drinking, Lin Xiao spoke up. "Mr. Huang, you're a little slow. I'm already done!"
BOOM!
The words hit Huang Xingcheng like a physical blow, and he flinched. He instinctively glanced at Lin Xiao's bowl—it was completely empty. The sight stunned him. Including the liquor in that bowl, the filthy beggar had now downed a total of three jin. Yet, his expression remained completely unchanged.
Impossible. This is absolutely impossible. This is 53-percent-alcohol Feitian Maotai, not plain water! Hell, an ordinary person couldn't even chug three jin of plain water in one go! Could it be... did this filthy beggar secretly dump his liquor while I was drinking? That has to be it. Otherwise, how could he drink three jin without any reaction at all?
Huang Xingcheng slammed his bowl down on the table and glared at Lin Xiao. "Brother Lin, I agreed to drink with you in good faith. I didn't expect you to play tricks on me!"
"Oh? You think I poured my liquor out?" Lin Xiao asked with a cold smile.
Huang Xingcheng's heart stuttered.
This filthy beggar is sharper than he looks. He saw right through me.
He snorted. "Didn't you?"
Before Lin Xiao could reply, Chu Xiangxue spoke up, her voice sharp with displeasure. "Huang Xingcheng, you were the one who insisted on this drinking competition. Now that you can't keep up, you're resorting to false accusations?"
Huang Xingcheng's heart trembled. He knew Chu Xiangxue was truly angry this time. He quickly forced a smile. "Xiang Xue, that's not what I meant!"
"Then what did you mean?" she pressed, giving him no room to retreat.
Cornered by her question, Huang Xingcheng was at a loss for words, his face a mask of embarrassment.
Just then, Lin Xiao laughed. "Mr. Huang was just making a joke!"
"Right, right! Xiang Xue, I was just joking! Just a joke! I'm sure Brother Lin isn't that kind of person!" Huang Xingcheng said hastily, latching onto the excuse.
Lin Xiao smiled. "Well, now that the joke is over, shouldn't we continue drinking, Mr. Huang? I'm waiting for our next round."
The provocation was so intense Huang Xingcheng nearly fell out of his chair.
This filthy beggar is unbelievably arrogant!
Without another word of complaint, he picked up the large bowl again. But as he brought it to his lips, he hesitated once more.
Am I really going to drink another two jin of liquor?
He had only agreed to the challenge because he'd thought it impossible for this beggar's tolerance to be greater than his. But now, it was clear he had sorely underestimated the man. What's more, he'd drunk the first bottle without eating a single bite of food. Though Huang Xingcheng had a high tolerance, drinking so much on an empty stomach was a formidable challenge. His stomach was already starting to churn—the telltale sign that he was about to vomit.
"Mr. Huang, if you can't drink it, just say so. We can stop here," Lin Xiao said suddenly.
The words felt like a vicious slap across Huang Xingcheng's face. He was instantly infuriated and snorted coldly. "Me, Huang Xingcheng, lose to a beggar?"
As soon as the defiant words left his mouth, a rush of blood went to his head, and he began frantically guzzling the liquor from the bowl. He wasn't even halfway through when he abruptly shot to his feet.
The next second, he began to vomit torrentially.
