Chapter 128: The Past

Ye Qiu followed the servant to Ye Lao's study.

After knocking and receiving permission, he entered the study.

It was simple and grand, with a row of bookshelves holding various books, and the floor still kept some potted plants whose names couldn't be recalled.

Ye Lao was watering the pottered plants with a small watering can while Ye Xuan supported him.

Ye Qiu, upon entering and seeing Ye Xuan also there, was momentarily stunned, then nodded towards them and said to Ye Lao, "Grandpa, I'm here!"

Ye Lao hummed lightly in response, and with Ye Xuan's support, finished watering the remaining plants. Ye Xuan took the watering can away, while Ye Lao sat in the recliner, pointed to a chair beside him, and said, "Sit down and talk."

Ye Qiu wasn't reserved, so he sat beside Ye Lao and asked, "Grandpa called me for something?"

Ye Lao said, "Can't I call you just to chat?"

"No, that's not it!" Ye Qiu chuckled but fell silent for a moment, unsure what to say to this powerful old man.

Seeing Ye Qiu silent, the old man chuckled and said, "How come you have nothing to say to an old man like me?"

"It's not that," Ye Qiu scratched his head, "just not sure what to say to Grandpa."

"Just say whatever comes to mind. I'm your grandpa, you're my grandson; let's chat like we've just finished a meal!" The old man took a sip of tea that Ye Xuan had brought back and nodded with satisfaction, "Hmm, not bad!"

Ye Xuan laughed and then poured a cup for Ye Qiu as well.

"Thank you!" Ye Qiu thanked her, then picked up the tea cup and took a sip, his eyes immediately showing surprise: "Good tea!"

"You know tea?" Ye Lao asked.

Ye Qiu shook his head, "I don't know, but I feel that good taste means good tea!"

Ye Lao was startled and exchanged a glance with Ye Xuan, who said, "Don't speak nonsense if you don't know. People who don't know tea can't taste its goodness; even if the best tea is placed in front of them, they won't know it."

This was indeed true; some expensive teas don't taste very nice to those who don't understand.

Ye Qiu shrugged helplessly, "That's what I believe; I think if it tastes good, it is good tea."

Ye Xuan wanted to say something, but Ye Lao burst into laughter, "Haha, truly my grandson, Ye Zhengxuan; good, good!"

Seeing Ye Lao's praise, Ye Qiu smugly raised his eyebrows at Ye Xuan, who furrowed her brows, somewhat puzzled as she looked at Ye Lao.

Ye Lao said, "Haha, indeed, Ye Qiu is right. If you think something is good, then it is good. Anything that earns praises is good! Very nice, very nice..."

Ye Lao was even more satisfied with Ye Qiu at this moment.

Ye Xuan frowned in thought and ultimately felt there was some truth to it, glaring fiercely at Ye Qiu, then sat aside in silence.

Ye Qiu smiled, and Ye Lao asked at this point, "Ye Qiu, can you tell me about your childhood?"

Ye Lao was obviously still holding onto hope, wanting to hear about Ye Qiu's childhood to judge Ye Qiu's identity.

Ye Qiu was taken aback, pondered for a moment, and then began slowly speaking.

When he was three years old, he left Huaxia with his mother.

He didn't know the specifics; he only knew his mother and Ye Xiong didn't get along, often argued, so his mother took him away.

Upon reaching the United States, at first, his mother lived a harsh life with him. But what puzzled Ye Qiu was that someone would come daily to give money to their home, yet his mother would refuse to accept it and would express great anger.

On several occasions, Ye Qiu saw his mother crying in distress after refusing the money.

Until he was eight, Ye Qiu was selected by the United States Professional Racing Alliance and entered the reserve team.

He then joined the Highway Hero Team, showcasing talents along with Lin Xirou.

At this time, his and his mother's life gradually improved.

So in his heart, he was always grateful to his mother; the feelings for his mother were the most important, even before Lin Xirou.

As for Ye Xiong, at first, Ye Qiu hated him, but after returning to Huaxia and spending a year with Ye Xiong, Ye Qiu gradually changed his impression and started accepting this father.

"Seems like the external rumors aren't accurate!" Ye Lao said upon hearing Ye Qiu's narration.

Ye Qiu replied, "Indeed!"

The star-like packaging of Professional Racing Drivers, similar to entertainment stars, meant clubs packaged him as perfect and mysterious.

Therefore, much of the information the outside world knew about his childhood was fabricated, with very few knowing the true story.

"Your childhood was really tough!"

Ye Xuan, with teary eyes, kept wiping her eyes with tissues, moved by Ye Qiu's words.

Ye Qiu had just described the hardships of his childhood training and how his Eastern face was looked down upon by Westerners, and how he turned the tables...

Naturally, what made Ye Xuan cry sadly was the relationship between Ye Qiu and Lin Xirou.

"That Aik is really despicable!" Ye Xuan cursed, then curiously asked Ye Qiu, "Where is Lin Xirou? Do you still keep in touch?"

For some unknown reason, Ye Xuan was very keen to know the current relationship between Lin Xirou and Ye Qiu.

Hearing Ye Xuan ask about Lin Xirou, Ye Qiu felt a twinge in his heart.

Since the day Lin Xirou hung up his call, and in the subsequent days, Ye Qiu kept calling but no one answered.

So Ye Qiu also didn't know about Lin Xirou's situation, but he reckoned she might be preparing for the upcoming exhibition match!

Thinking they would soon meet in Huaxia, Ye Qiu was somewhat looking forward to it. He temporarily suppressed his urge and smiled at Ye Xuan: "Of course, we are going to get married in the future!"

Hearing this, Ye Xuan nodded but bowed her head in silence.

As Ye Xuan fell silent, Ye Qiu turned to look at Ye Lao, only to find that he had already fallen asleep, and gradually started snoring.

The snoring became progressively louder.

Ye Xuan and Ye Qiu exchanged glances and then both laughed.

Ye Xuan gently got up, placed a blanket over Ye Lao, then waved carefully to Ye Qiu, and the two quietly tip-toed out of the room.

Thud.

At the moment the door closed, Ye Xuan looked back, but Ye Qiu, lost in thought, didn't notice and moved forward. They bumped into each other.

Ye Qiu was startled, and Ye Xuan similarly was surprised. However, as Ye Xuan was hit in a sensitive spot, ready to exclaim, Ye Qiu promptly covered her mouth.

But this action left their balance unstable.

Ye Qiu feared making a noise that would wake the old man, so he hastily wrapped his arm around Ye Xuan's slender waist, pulling her into his embrace, and forcefully pressed her against the opposite wall.

"Phew!"

Seeing that they hadn't made too much noise, Ye Qiu breathed a sigh of relief, but then noticed Ye Xuan, whom he had pinned against the wall, was looking at him with a flushed face, her chest pressed against him, out of shape. Ye Qiu was momentarily dumbfounded.
