Chapter 255: The Only One

"Who!"

Ye Qiu saw a shadow swiftly fleeing down the village alley.

It was pitch black and impossible to see anything, but Ye Qiu, possessing the Celestial Eye, immediately opened it and looked down the alley.

The figure looked like a person, but was very short and small, and just as Ye Qiu tried to get a better look, the person turned a corner and disappeared.

Ye Qiu frowned, wanting to chase but hesitated upon seeing the car behind him.

The car contained goods worth five billion belonging to Xu Batian, and if it were lost, how would he explain?

Despite his frown, the mystery intrigued Ye Qiu, so he locked the car door and took a wrench, chasing after the person.

Arriving at the alley where the person had turned earlier, Ye Qiu cautiously surveyed his surroundings.

Ye Qiu had been here before and confirmed it was empty; indeed, the entire village seemed deserted. Seeing that person now sparked confusion and curiosity about who they were.

Stepping cautiously in the village's alleyways, Ye Qiu studied the area but saw no trace of the person.

"Where are they?"

Ye Qiu frowned, doubting the person could run that fast.

"They must be hiding somewhere."

Ye Qiu concluded and continued searching, returning to a place that might have been a pigsty, though it now lacked any pigs. He deduced it was a pigsty from the remnants of dried pig dung on the ground.

Frowning, Ye Qiu pushed open the pigsty's gate and then walked toward a large stack of firewood ahead.

The closer he got, the tighter he gripped the wrench in his hand, clearly tense.

"Come out!"

Ye Qiu halted in front of the woodpile and shouted, hearing the other person's breathing.

"If you don't come out, I'll set it on fire," Ye Qiu shouted when there was no reaction.

"No, no, no burning, no burning."

To Ye Qiu's surprise, a boy's voice, sounding about fourteen or fifteen, emerged from inside.

Recalling the figure he saw earlier, Ye Qiu could confirm it was a boy although he still kept his guard up, eyes fixed on the woodpile.

"Come out quickly."

After Ye Qiu shouted, a frail figure slowly stood up behind the woodpile, hands on his head, and walked out.

"It really is a boy."

Ye Qiu was filled with questions upon seeing it was indeed a boy.

Thud.

Then, unexpectedly, the boy knelt down in front of Ye Qiu, causing him confusion: "What are you doing?"

In the moonlight, his face was all muddy, dirty, his hair like a mess, he knelt before Ye Qiu, tears in his eyes as he said: "Please, take me away, take me out of here."

"Hmm?"

Ye Qiu was puzzled but lifted the boy, catching the pungent smell from his filthy clothes, frowned, and asked: "How long haven't you bathed?"

"I..." The boy hesitated: "I can't remember, after those monsters came, I haven't bathed."

"Those monsters?" Ye Qiu furrowed his brow: "Tell me what's going on with this village?"

The boy showed fear, shook his head: "We should leave first, those monsters might come back anytime."

"Hmm? They might come back anytime?"

Ye Qiu replied: "It's okay, I'm here, tell me first."

The boy hesitated and then said: "Those monsters look bizarre and they ride flying cars."

"Flying cars? So they are aliens!"

Ye Qiu recalled visiting Dar Star, seeing those aliens in flying cars.

He then asked the boy: "What about the village people? Were they killed by those aliens?"

The boy nodded, then shook his head: "I don't know if they were killed, but they were all taken away."

"Taken away? Taken to where?" Ye Qiu asked.

The boy replied: "I don't know, I just know the villagers were sucked away by something that can absorb people, my parents, and sister were taken."

As he spoke, tears flowed from the boy's eyes and he began to cry.

"Don't cry."

Ye Qiu consoled him: "Don't worry, since I'm here, I'll help you find the villagers."

Being just a child, the boy's eyes lit up after hearing Ye Qiu's words, asking: "Really?"

"Of course," Ye Qiu said: "I'm quite strong."

"Yes, you're really strong!" The boy said; "I saw how amazing you were fighting those monsters just now."

Ye Qiu remembered the twenty women who turned into monsters, an event clearly recent, so he asked: "Those twenty monsters, or rather, those twenty women lying in coffins."

"I put them in the coffins."

"You did that?" Ye Qiu was surprised, then asked: "They aren't villagers, are they? Who are they?"

The boy replied: "I don't know, but I heard them saying they're from some tour group."

"So that's it." The confusion began to clear, Ye Qiu understood, then asked: "Who killed them?"

"Those who took the villagers did."

The boy sounded indignant.

"Oh? Why did they kill these people?" Ye Qiu said.

The boy shook his head: "I don't know."

Ye Qiu nodded, anticipating this, knowing the boy wouldn't understand much.

Then he pondered for a while, looking at the boy's filthy appearance, asked: "Why didn't they take you?"

When Ye Qiu asked, the boy proudly said: "I hid in my secret cave when they were capturing people."

"Secret cave?" Ye Qiu asked, intrigued.

The boy replied: "Oh, it's a secret cave I dug myself."

"Oh." Ye Qiu nodded, further intrigued: "Since you survived, why didn't you leave the village?"

The boy showed helplessness and said: "I want to leave, but I can't."

He then curiously asked: "How did you get in?"

Ye Qiu frowned: "I drove in; tell me why you can't leave?"

...

A few minutes later, Ye Qiu and the boy arrived at the village entrance, the boy said: "Look here."

With that, the boy stepped forward, but suddenly, he seemed to be struck, flying backward, crashing to the ground.
