Sara froze in confusion. "H-Huh?"

"That's a lovely ring. I wonder who's the lucky guy?"

"There's no lucky guy. It's just a space ring." Sara corrected him as she walked closer to the carcass with the ring still on her finger.

"Oh, so you don't want a lucky guy to offer you a ring?" Aster asked with a smug look on his face, but his words made Sara start imagining certain things.

Of course, since Sara was a lady, it was perfectly normal for her to imagine being approached by a handsome male.

"I-I didn't say that."

"Oh my, your cheeks are turning red. I wonder what you're daydreaming about. Should I be concerned or am I going to have to spank you again?"

Sara's face turned completely red but she swiftly collected herself before rolling her eyes with a smile on her face.

Then she shoved her hand forward, aiming it at the carcass. "Your Highness, the ring wasn't given to me by any lucky guy. It's just a space ring. Watch."

The ring turned bright and the Jackalope's carcass vanished instantly.

Once done, she turned toward Aster. "You see, I told you that it was just a space ring. So no lucky guy is taking me away from you. You're stuck with me for life, Your Highness." Sara huffed with a cute annoyed look on her face as she folded her arms underneath her breasts.

Aster smiled but didn't say anything as he followed her, the two of them stepping deeper into the wilderness.

Aster noticed that the trees and bushes were becoming more dense, so he asked. "Where are we going?"

"I'm looking for something."

"And what would that be?"

Sara looked around them before finding what she was searching for. "Over there." She pointed to a certain clearing but there was nothing there.

"There's nothing here..." Aster paused mid-sentence when he suddenly felt a huge surge of energy course through his body.

"Do you feel that?" Sara asked.

"Yes, I did. What was it?"

"It's spiritual energy. This place has a decent amount of it and this makes it the perfect spot to awaken your spirit root."

Aster nodded in understanding before asking. "So what do I need to do?"

"I'll guide you on how to awaken your spirit root. Once we're done with that, then we'll return home. I still have to make you the meal I promised you."

Aster nodded again.

"Alright, before we begin, there's something important you must know. All spirits are like ghosts. So you can't see them unless they want you to and you can't hurt them too because your attack will just go right through them." Sara explained.

"Woah, so Enhancers and Conjurers are basically powerless against spirits?"

"Yes, they are."

"Are all spirits bad?" Aster asked, knowing fully well that familiars were different from the spirits he was talking about.

"Well, not all of them, only the corrupted spirits are dangerous and they're different from familiars like us."

"How so?"

"We familiars are naturally humanoid spirits and as such, we are a lot smarter than your average corrupted spirits. But most corrupted spirits are vicious beasts with a cunning attitude and a primal urge to kill and feast on anything they lay their eyes on."

"Anything?"

"Yes, Anything." Sara repeated with a stern voice, causing Aster to swallow his saliva in a loud gulp.

Then she continued. "These corrupted spirits also tend to play with their meal in a brutal and gruesome way before tearing them apart until nothing but bits and pieces are left."

"But why?"

"Fear."

"Huh? Did you just say fear?"

"Yes, Your Highness. Corrupted spirits feast on fear before any other thing so, they will do whatever it takes to obtain as much fear as possible from their prey before tearing them apart."

"These guys sound really terrifying."

"Yes, they are and that's why many demons have grown to fear spirits, because most corrupted spirits tend to feed on the fear of their prey whilst inflicting them with even more fear before tearing them apart from limb to limb."

Aster slowly looked around the forest with a bead of sweat on his forehead. "Just to be sure, are there any corrupted spirits around?"

Sara giggled softly before replying. "No, not really. Most corrupted spirits appear whenever there's a tear between the spirit realm and Evermore."

"A tear? But why would there be a tear between realms in the first place."

Ever since Sara and Vivian had taught him about the world, Aster had learnt about the three realms of the world which consisted mainly of the spirit realm, the human realm and Evermore (The Supernatural World).

However, the supernatural world was closer to the spirit realm than the human realm.

"Whenever there's a high amount of corrupted or pure spiritual energy in a certain spot, a tear tends to appear, allowing spirits and corrupted spirits to step into Evermore and leave the spirit realm."

"But if an Enhancer and a Conjurer are useless against spirits, then how will anyone be able to stop them if these spirits were to ever leave the spirit realm?" Aster asked.

"Hmm, some demons are able to sense them if their spiritual energy is just as strong as that of the corrupted spirit or even higher. Also, if anyone ever wished to be able to see or sense them, then they must have at least one of three things."

Sara lifted three of her fingers and listed them. "They must possess either spirit blood, spirit root or spirit bone."

"What are those?"

"Spirit blood is a bloodline trait passed down from generation to generation. It allows demons to see and sense corrupted spirits while a spirit root gives these demons the power to fight against such spirits."

"And what about the spirit bone?"

"The spirit bone helps to harden the bodies of demons so that they can physically hit and attack these spirits."

'That's cool!' Aster uttered in his thoughts.

With everything Sara had explained to him, there was no way he wouldn't find it cool that demons had a way to see spirits even when they didn't want to be seen.

Moreover, they could even protect themselves from the spirits, and that made it even more amazing.

So why wouldn't he want to learn how to sense and utilize spiritual energy?
