Chapter 279: False Surrender

On the tall and thick walls of Yin Country's capital, the original city gate had completely disappeared, replaced by a terrifying breach a hundred meters wide. Outside this massive gap, three thousand fervently combative Feng Country soldiers marched in single file over the moat filled with debris from the city wall and began an unparalleled slaughter.

During the earlier horrifying tornado attack, the defenders of Yin Country's capital were not completely destroyed. More than half of them still retained combat capability, but the gate, which Yin Army most relied on, was blasted open. The first layer of defenders at the gate was almost wiped out, crushing their morale completely.

How many soldiers, after witnessing such a world-devastating tornado, could recover immediately? It was almost a dimensional reduction strike.

"Retreat quickly! The enemy has a sorcerer!"

"Retreat immediately!"

...

Some quick-witted Yin Country defenders realized after the tornado's disappearance that this battle could not be resisted head-on. If the enemy produced such a terrifying thing again, any number of men would be useless, so they shouted to retreat for a tactical engagement.

However, this scene was coincidentally noticed by Wang Zhifan standing on the broken city wall. He had jumped up after his subordinates stormed through the city's breach, mainly to observe the course of this war, lest his painstakingly conserved storm power was wasted without winning this battle.

"There are probably ten thousand defenders left for Yin Country. Although they are somewhat scared witless, if they recover and counterattack my three thousand troops may be pushed back... I'd better make more effort."

Although he had long planned to use real combat to train his subordinates, that was based on having sufficient resources. Wang Zhifan would not let the three thousand troops he painstakingly brought from Feng Country be consumed here. He hoped these men would serve as seeds to continue growing, so he quickly acted again, using the ice power he had mastered skillfully.

Therefore, the Feng Country soldiers, who wanted to retreat temporarily after the earth-shattering blow, suddenly found their bodies covered with white frost. Their legs became too stiff to land properly, forced to watch the Feng Country army charge over and cut them down mercilessly like wheat, unable to respond in time.

A series of shrill cries immediately rang out, and Feng Country soldiers, already in an excited state, began a frenzied slaughter of these Yin Country soldiers. The armored young general leading them then commanded the cavalry to penetrate from both flanks, quickly encircling these immobilized Yin Country defenders.

Since witnessing Wang Zhifan strike a world-ending tornado that destroyed the gate with a single slash, he had ceased to be surprised by whatever strange situations his enemies might encounter. He had given up wondering about the mystery and power of his king.

However, the massacre did not last for long. Under the pressure of death, someone in the Yin Country army lost their nerve and began yelling for surrender:

"I surrender! I surrender!"

"Don't kill me!"

"I am a general! I want to see your king!"

...

The reason these people could still make a sound despite being bound by ice was by Wang Zhifan's design. He had long intended to capture an army, as it was a shortcut to rapidly expand military strength, although it came with loyalty concerns. Yet, he was not overly worried about that.

"Ceasefire! Do not slaughter surrendered soldiers!"

At this moment, noticing some Yin Country soldiers wanting to surrender, and one of them claiming to be a general, the armored young general immediately ordered his subordinates to halt. He recalled his king's words about accepting surrenders and avoiding senseless slaughter.

"You claim to be a general? Do you have any proof?"

He continued on horseback to a certain spot in the enemy ranks, looking at the person who had just shouted to see their king.

This person seemed quite aged, clad in armor, easily distinguishable from the other Yin Country soldiers nearby, indeed a leader.

"I am the deputy general defending the city. The token at my waist is proof, and everyone around can attest to my identity."

Realizing that a suspected leader from Feng Country had noticed him, this older Yin Country general immediately responded, fearing the other would distrust his identity.

"Where is your chief general? You're merely a deputy general and likely unqualified to meet my king."

The armored young general replied disdainfully to the spineless elderly general, indicating that following Wang Zhifan's command to accept surrenders did not mean he respected such people.

"The chief general went up to the gate earlier; he must be dead for sure. I am now the highest-ranking officer here."

Continuing to explain, the elder general seeking surrender paid no mind to the other's ridicule.

"Then you can come with me to meet the king."

Not wasting time, the young general on horseback bent slightly to lift the old man with one hand, taking him, frozen and subdued, to the city's edge.

Shortly after, this surrendering Yin Country general was thrown to the base of the city wall where Wang Zhifan stood, allowing him to gaze upward at the person observing him from above.

"Are you willing to lead the remaining Yin Country soldiers to submit to me?"

With extraordinary senses, Wang Zhifan had already overheard the conversation from afar and asked directly.

"Great King! I am willing! If anyone in the army dares to disobey, I will personally execute them!"

This older Yin Country general, seemingly strong in survival instincts, lifted his head and continuously vowed to the figure standing high on the wall, fearing the great king of Feng Country would not grant him a chance to live.
