Chapter 46: Sliced in Two

As Wang Zhifan vertically swung down his blade, he instantly felt a terrifying surge of power throughout his body. The Wolf-Slaying Blade in his hand emitted a slight hum, signaling the activation of the double damage effect from the Ape King's Fury Ring!

In an instant, Wang Zhifan, with a valiant posture, attacked the monster. His strike, like a hot knife slicing through butter, effortlessly cleaved from the top of the enemy's head, vertically piercing through its entire wolfish head and neck. The blade continued to slice through its chest, cutting across its waist and abdomen, finally splitting between its two long, hairy thighs, dividing the creature into two symmetrical halves!

Subsequently, the towering enemy, over two meters in height, fell heavily before Wang Zhifan. Its robust body split open upon hitting the ground, exposing the brains, blood, and viscera cleaved vertically through its entirety - clearly dead beyond revival.

"Pah! Damn beast! If I had my full gear, you'd have died even faster!"

After finally killing the monster, Wang Zhifan, his clothing ripped in several places, viciously kicked the enemy's corpse that had split in two in front of him. He then flicked his Wolf-Slaying Blade through the air to remove the lingering fluids and swiftly left the now deserted street, heading down a narrow alley back to his rented apartment.

Shortly after Wang Zhifan's departure, several officials in black uniforms arrived at the scene. The leader, a man aged around twenty-seven or twenty-eight, with a longsword at his waist and a sniper rifle in his hand, scanned the blood-scented street vigilantly before quickly approaching the monster's corpse, which lay split on the road.

However, it looked somewhat different from when Wang Zhifan had left. The corpse, once a fully long-haired humanoid wolf, had now, after a short while, its body hair shortened and thinned. The head, split in two, no longer looked entirely beastlike, with facial features resembling a young Caucasian human.

"It's a foreign warrior-class werewolf player... Judging by its physique and body strength, its level should be between Lv20 and Lv23..."

The leading man in the black uniform placed his sniper rifle aside, squatted beside the corpse, examined it for a couple of seconds, and pressed his gloved fingers onto it, giving his evaluation.

His colleagues, meanwhile, snapped photos of the corpse, took notes in small booklets, and rushed into the buildings lining the street.

"Mr. Li, can you tell which player killed him?"

The one with the notebook asked the leader, still squatting by the corpse, curiously.

"At least an Lv30 player, proficient in melee combat, using a blade or sword-type weapon."

Mr. Li, the leader, replied after a moment of thought.

"This player is likely specializing in melee combat, with exceptionally high strength attributes and a decent weapon. Without these, they couldn't have smoothly cleaved the werewolf in two in a single strike... When they killed this werewolf player, the werewolf was still in its thick-skinned, muscular form. Even for me, such an attack wouldn't be easy..."

The black-uniformed Mr. Li, his sniper rifle beside him and a sword at his waist, continued his analysis.

Soon, after completing his inspection, he rose, looking toward the street side. There, a uniformed officer, who had run over just moments ago, was already returning.

"Mr. Li! The CCTV system here has been sabotaged; there's no footage of the street during that time!"

The returning officer reported the unfortunate news to Mr. Li.

"Hmm... As expected."

Mr. Li received the news with an unperturbed expression.

"Recently, these foreign criminals causing disturbances are skilled at concealing their tracks. They prepare thoroughly before committing a crime, making them hard to catch... But fortunately, this one ran into an iron wall."

The man said nonchalantly, glancing again at the cold corpse split in two on the ground.

He then moved forward to inspect another body on the street, a passerby initially killed by the foreign werewolf player's attack. Confirming that they died from having their heart gouged out by the werewolf's claws, he instructed those nearby to cover the body with a white cloth, moving on to information gathering and contacting the next of kin.

Mr. Li then approached a nearby sewer manhole, determining from footprints and other traces that the now-dead culprit had emerged from there initially.

"Tonight, let Mr. Huang thoroughly search the area with his little gadgets. Even if we don't find the criminals' lair, we might discover some leads."

He instructed the officer with the notebook by his side.

"Alright, Mr. Li."

The note-taking officer responded while jotting down notes, then asked:

"What about the player who killed the werewolf? Do we need to quickly determine his identity?"

Upon hearing this, Mr. Li fell into brief silence, contemplating and weighing the situation.

"We can start with a simple investigation."

He finally answered.

"But remember to focus on investigating the foreign criminals. We're under considerable pressure from higher-ups concerning this... Moreover, this expert who killed the werewolf and left without claiming the bounty is likely someone who prefers not to be disturbed. Even if we find out who he is, don't send anyone directly. Many of these individuals have bad tempers and might unintentionally cause trouble... The influence of players is growing, and current policies favor recruitment. We cannot afford to drive domestic experts abroad."

Though young, Mr. Li seemed to hold a significant position and had a good grasp of upper-level policies. As he spoke, the officer with the notebook meticulously recorded every word.

The officials continued to methodically handle the subsequent matters, while elsewhere, Wang Zhifan, whom Mr. Li had estimated as at least an Lv30 melee expert—a reality far from the truth of his actual Lv3 level—was taking a shower in his cramped rental apartment, frowning and contemplating.

"I didn't expect this area I've been living in to become so unsafe... For a secure future, I need to move to a safer place soon... Perhaps directly relocating around the Dongjiang Second Bureau would be wise, as there are sure to be official experts stationed there... Hmm... I'll look for a place right after the raid tomorrow."
