Chapter 68: Necromancer

"Bullet time!"

The Lv11 female player sensed immense danger at that moment. To repel the wide-jawed monster charging at her as quickly as possible, she instantly activated the bullet-time skill, available only to Lv10 gunner class players.

The skill's specific function is to greatly enhance the neural reaction speed and physical control ability of the gunner player in an instant, allowing for several extraordinarily precise sequential shots that critically damage the opponent's vulnerable parts or extremely agile instantaneous dodges.

Sure enough, once she used this skill, the wide-jawed monster that had just lunged at her was shot in the head several times, and she barely dodged the monster's attack by a hair's breadth and turned to escape towards the alley blocked by ordinary zombies.

She planned to forcibly break through the siege, even though doing so would inevitably result in injury, possibly severe.

However, even though this Lv11 gunner female player had resolved herself to this fate, it did not change her doomed destiny at all, for beyond her sight, more zombies were gathering! Among them were elite zombies with strength rivaling or surpassing that of the ground-boring wide-jawed monsters!

"That woman is doomed."

At this time, Wang Zhifan, who had already used his advantage in running away first and his extraordinary speed to perch on the wall of a distant alley, was watching as the female player became surrounded by over two hundred varied zombies. Cement structures or narrow paths hemmed her in on all sides, and every path was blocked by various zombies, with more converging on the perimeter.

Wang Zhifan himself didn't have a particularly smooth escape. When he reached that alley, he found the various rigid zombie corpses he had seen on the ground earlier were standing up, trying to stop his escape. However, thanks to his high attributes, he chose not to fight these zombies in the alley but leapt onto the alley wall, leaving the zombies below staring at him helplessly.

Soon after, he noticed zombies from the surrounding areas were converging towards that store location, including some elite zombies. This strange situation immediately drew his attention, making him suspect it was the sound system zombie from earlier attracting them with its speaker, prompting him to prepare to run as far away as possible.

But soon, he realized those gathered zombies did not actively attack him, even the elite ones, all influenced by the Chapter of Obscurity, which made him ultimately decide to hide and observe the subsequent developments.

Only then could he witness the current scene of that female player caught in a zombie siege. She hadn't fallen yet and was still firing around herself at the swarming zombies, taking them down.

But the terrain she was in was too disadvantageous, with too many zombies around, and their numbers were even continually growing, sealing her escape fate.

"That Mage player has disappeared; I suspect this all has something to do with him."

While observing the gunner female player's desperate struggle for survival, Wang Zhifan began to form his own hypothesis about what had transpired before, although he didn't quite understand why that Mage player was doing this. Was it merely to trick others into dying to acquire their equipment? How did he ensure he wouldn't screw up, and how was he controlling those zombies?

Just seconds later, accompanied by a not-so-loud scream, Wang Zhifan, perched on the edge of the alley wall, saw the gunner female player, as she was reloading after exhausting her ammunition, unable to dodge the surrounding zombies that completely engulfed her, robbing her of her precious life, perhaps even with her corpse entirely devoured by the zombies.

Yet, after witnessing this final moment, Wang Zhifan remained, continuing to wait for subsequent developments.

Sure enough, just after the gunner female player fell, the rotund zombie carrying a speaker on its shoulder started banging on the speaker's casing again, producing a noise incomprehensible to humans. This noise evidently wielded some magic over the surrounding zombies, as once the speaker made its sound this time, all the gathered zombies began to disperse, retreating along the narrow paths, leaving behind a bloodstained young female corpse on the ground, the few zombies originally guarding the store entrance, and those performing corpse-pretend in the alley.

"It appears this sound system zombie can summon and disperse zombie groups... I'm just not sure why it obeys that person, is it some special skill?"

As Wang Zhifan continued to hide at a high vantage point, observing and contemplating this question, the person he had been waiting for finally appeared. The handsome Mage player, wearing a black robe and a pointed black wizard hat, emerged from the store, passing by the nearly three-meter-tall, rotund zombie carrying a massive speaker on its shoulder, alongside passing by various ordinary zombies, reaching the side of the young woman's corpse lying on the ground.

"Finally succeeded, it's a shame one of them got away."

At this moment, the young, handsome Mage player, who easily invoked goodwill, squatted down to look at the gunner female player's body in front of him, expressing slight regret in a low voice as if dissatisfied with his earlier hunt's yield.

He then pointed his Magic Staff at the woman's corpse on the ground, muttering, seemingly chanting an incantation. Approximately five seconds later, as he finished his chant, the female player's corpse on the ground responded, slowly standing up as if resurrected, even bending to pick up the rifle on the ground and firmly holding it in her hands, though her movements seemed extremely stiff, just like a low-level ordinary zombie.

"No wonder... turns out he's a Necromancer..."

Witnessing this scene from afar, Wang Zhifan immediately understood everything that had happened before. He had wondered earlier why a Mage class player was behaving so deceitfully, and how he was controlling those zombies. It turned out his true profession was exactly this; the so-called ice Mage was definitely a guise.

"Is he trying to hunt players to convert their corpses into undead? And he's summoning actual zombies with the sound system zombie to kill players, to circumvent the punishment corridor mechanisms... I must admit that his class ability is perfectly suited for this instance; even having discovered the truth, it's hard to directly retaliate without ending up in the punishment corridor myself, which would be arduous and unrewarding."

At this moment, Wang Zhifan felt somewhat at a loss internally. According to his character, upon discovering someone was deceiving him, he would undoubtedly retaliate, but this was inside an instance. Even though he could easily overpower the opponent in a direct confrontation, the problem was that it would easily lead to being sent to the punishment corridor unless he meticulously crafted a trap, leveraging either others or the instance's monsters to eliminate the opponent.
