Undead Mage: I Have a Skeleton Clone

Chapter 33: Speedrunning Abyss Difficulty First Place on Eight Leaderboards

KA! KA! KA!

Two Demon Children were gesticulating wildly, letting out harsh cackles as they seemingly mocked Fang Zhou for foolishly wasting his Spiritual Power.

Seeing this, Fang Zhou pointed his Magic Staff and commanded, "Explode!"

With a loud boom, at his command, the two Bone Spears embedded in the Arrow Tower exploded instantly.

This was the new explosive attribute added to the Skeleton Flying Spear after it absorbed the Fireball Skill. He hadn't expected to use it so soon.

Caught off guard, the Arrow Tower where the two Demon Children stood was obliterated by the force of the explosion. With a series of wails, they fell from mid-air, crashing heavily into the camp.

Unfortunately, Abyssal Demons had tough hides and immense Life Energy. Although the two Abyss Demon Children were severely injured, they hadn't lost their combat effectiveness. However, without the Arrow Tower for cover, they could no longer cast spells at Fang Zhou as wantonly as before.

Without the Demon Children's interference, 40 skeletons quickly finished assembling. Fang Zhou waved his Magic Staff, and they surged toward the Little Inferior Demon camp like a tide.

ROAR!

Under the command of the Demon Children, six Little Inferior Demons raised their steel forks, firmly manning the wooden fence.

The Little Inferior Demons' steel forks could inflict significant damage on the unarmed skeletons. The skeletons, however, were bare-handed and separated by the fence, leaving them able to do little more than passively take the hits.

The two Demon Children also hid slyly behind the fence, launching opportunistic Desecration Beams into the Sea of Skulls. Each successful hit rendered a skeleton combat-ineffective.

However, the sheer numerical advantage of the Sea of Skulls left the Little Inferior Demons helpless. Under Fang Zhou's command, the 40 skeletons fearlessly dedicated themselves to destroying the camp's wooden fence.

With the aid of the Skeleton Flying Spears, a breach was soon torn through the left side of the wooden fence at the cost of seven skeletons.

Fang Zhou keenly seized the opportunity, swiftly directing the remaining skeletons to the breach. A Little Inferior Demon immediately stepped forward, attempting to block the gap with its own body, but Fang Zhou found his opening. A single Skeleton Flying Spear pierced its chest, killing it instantly.

The death of the first Little Inferior Demon triggered a domino effect. Fang Zhou excelled at overwhelming the few with the many. Before long, the tide-like Sea of Skulls had poured completely into the camp.

The few remaining Little Inferior Demons huddled together, resisting desperately.

With his mind on the Historical Speed Rankings, Fang Zhou saw his chance and stopped conserving his Spiritual Power. He directly activated the [Calm and Relaxed] skill, which had reached the [Skilled] level, and his Spiritual Power spontaneously recovered by twenty percent.

He then condensed several Skeleton Flying Spears, which whistled toward the Little Inferior Demon Battle Group.

SQUELCH! SQUELCH! SQUELCH!

As the demons watched in despair, the Skeleton Flying Spears pierced through the bodies of the Little Inferior Demons at the front. Even if the spears didn't strike vital spots, the ensuing explosions easily claimed their lives.

As the final wail of the last Demon Child faded, Fang Zhou let out a light breath.

Abyss Difficulty. Truly terrifying.

Even with his formidable strength, well-rounded skillset, and a horde of skeleton cannon fodder, it had taken everything he had to clear it.

I wonder what methods Ye Fan, Gu Zhiqiu, and the others will use to clear it?

As the entire camp turned to ruins, a pleasant series of notifications sounded.

"Mission complete. Time taken: 6 minutes 30 seconds. Clearance Rating: [Perfect]. Reward: 6 contribution points."

"First clear of [Little Inferior Demon Camp] on Abyss Difficulty. First Clear Reward: 8 contribution points."

"Congratulations, Junior Sergeant Fang Zhou. You are the first cadet in your grade to clear the [Little Inferior Demon Camp] on Abyss Difficulty. You receive a Grade First Clear Ranking Reward of 20 contribution points and an achievement blessing: Simulation Battlefield loot drop rate +1% (cumulative 5%)."

"Congratulations, Junior Sergeant Fang Zhou. You cleared [Little Inferior Demon Camp] on Abyss Difficulty in 6 minutes 30 seconds, ranking 1st on the Historical Speed Rankings. Expected ranking reward for this month: 12 contribution points."

"Loot drop triggered. Obtained [First-Level Sapphire] *1, exchangeable for 10 contribution points."

Listening to the pleasant notifications, Fang Zhou exhaled lightly. Fighting his way from Simple to Abyss Difficulty without a break had been no small challenge. Thankfully, the results were deeply satisfying.

He had achieved the first clear in his grade and claimed the top spot in the Historical Speed Rankings for all four difficulties. This performance was more than enough to secure him a spot on the seed list.

Fang Zhou reviewed the gains from his four dungeon runs. Not counting the consumed Fireball Skill Book and the First-Level Sapphire whose use was currently unknown, his net gain was 110 contribution points. This already surpassed the earnings from painstakingly deriving a new skill.

Fang Zhou smiled.

First clears in the Simulation Battlefield didn't consume daily attempts, which meant he still had one more challenge left for the day. A technician from the military academy had just informed him that the Simulation Battlefield for Middle Rank Apprentices wouldn't open until tomorrow.

Fang Zhou planned to strike while the iron was hot and raid the Abyss-level [Little Inferior Demon Camp] one more time.

After paying another 4 contribution points for entry, he walked into the Teleportation Gate with practiced ease.

A familiar lawn, a familiar camp, and eight familiar demons.

Amidst their familiar wails, Fang Zhou once again cleared the instance with ease.

"Mission complete. Time taken: 6 minutes 20 seconds. Clearance Rating: [Perfect]. Reward: 6 contribution points."

"Congratulations, Junior Sergeant Fang Zhou. You cleared [Little Inferior Demon Camp] on Abyss Difficulty in 6 minutes 20 seconds, ranking 1st on the Historical Speed Rankings. Expected ranking reward for this month: 12 contribution points."

This clear was 10 seconds faster than the last, making his top rank on the Historical Speed Rankings even more unshakable. The only regret was that no loot dropped this time.

Truly an enjoyable journey of battle.

I'll continue tomorrow, he thought, glancing back at the Teleportation Gate before exiting the Simulation Battlefield.

「...」

Exiting the Simulation Pod, Fang Zhou was startled by the bustling training ground. A group of cadets had gathered tightly around his pod, their eyes filled with fanaticism.

"Fang Zhou's out!"

"My hero, I want to have your skeletons!"

"Boss Fang Zhou, I'm beautiful with a sweet voice, and I can deal damage and heal! Carry me in the next team battlefield!"

"Uh..." An exasperated look crossed Fang Zhou's face as he looked at his excited classmates.

Luckily, Bai Xiaochan quickly burst through the crowd to his rescue. She stood with her hands on her hips, shouting to the crowd, "Alright, alright, everyone back off a little. Fang Zhou has been fighting for so long and must be exhausted. Let him get some rest."

The cadets of Sea City Military Academy were quite well-mannered. They obediently dispersed, though their lingering gazes, filled with admiration and awe, remained on Fang Zhou.

Among the nearly ten thousand first-year cadets, fewer than 1,000 could clear the Normal difficulty [Little Inferior Demon Camp]. Even fewer, only a few dozen, could clear Hard difficulty. This fully demonstrated just how challenging the [Little Inferior Demon Camp] was.

Yet for Fang Zhou, none of this seemed to apply.
