Chapter 133: Escape

In just over twenty seconds, Su Changxing caught up with Chen Ling and the others.

The young man who could release thunder was carrying a man in gray clothes, while Chen Ling was clearing the path ahead, and Zhang Daxi was following behind, carrying a bald man.

Chen Ling glanced at Su Changxing, who had followed them, revealing a hint of joy, and then said:

"We'll head through the alley ahead; not far from there is our temporary base. We have more people there, and, well, medical personnel too."

Su Changxing was somewhat surprised that these people from the Security Bureau actually had medical personnel, but ordinary medical personnel wouldn't be of much use, only able to handle minor injuries.

Could it be that there were medical personnel with superpowers?

He nodded and said, "Alright, you lead the way. I'll cover the rear. Try not to get too far ahead, or you'll all be in trouble."

With two wounded personnel, they certainly couldn't move long distances, especially with the undead tide following closely. The undead moved faster than they did.

However, once they entered the alley, the roars of the zombies diminished significantly, with fewer following them.

Su Changxing could handle it, slashing to the left and right at the back. Whenever a zombie came close, he killed it, shouting, "Faster, don't let these zombies catch up."

The physical fitness of these people was quite strong. Even while carrying someone, their speed wasn't slow, though still not quite as fast as the zombies.

Su Changxing noticed that the short one's face was pale and sweaty, clearly at the limits of his endurance and on the verge of collapse, and said:

"You'd better give up on him. Once you fall, not even an immortal can save you."

If this short man really collapsed, he wouldn't risk saving him. If surrounded by zombies, he would be in danger too.

In some situations, abandonment is the best option, even though no one wishes to be abandoned or abandon others.

Zhang Daxi lowered his head and ran forward, saying, "I'm fine. If I really can't run anymore, I'll leave this guy behind."

His eyes glowed faintly blue, and the muscles in his legs swelled, although much less than before. Still, he could barely keep up with the group.

Their relationship must be strong, as in these times, even brothers might abandon each other.

Su Changxing speculated about their relationship, increasing his slashing speed, killing almost a zombie every second.

The alley reverberated with chaotic roars.

Alone, he managed to hold back the tide of undead.

They fought and retreated, and more than ten minutes later, there were almost no zombies left following them, and they emerged from the alley onto a street next door.

Su Changxing saw that the long-haired man in a black tight suit at the front was covered in wounds, deep and shallow, all claw marks from zombies.

Yet he was still formidable. Moving quickly, the front line would be easily injured when encountering multiple zombies.

Su Changxing initially planned to abandon these people and leave alone if this man fell, but he didn't expect him to hold on.

Chen Ling glanced back at Su Changxing, who was unharmed, and said, "It's just ahead, not far. I'll take you there."

He was shocked by Su Changxing's strength and a bit excited, not expecting such a skilled fighter hidden in this area.

The stronger their people, the more would survive.

Su Changxing observed the surroundings, saying, "I fear the Hunters might move in this direction. Any issues with that?"

Chen Ling assured, "No issues. Our base is well-hidden, unlikely to be found... My name is Chen Ling. Thank you for your help."

Su Changxing smiled and said, "No need to thank me. In the Doomsday World, helping each other is the right thing to do."

He had many reasons for helping, whether for Extraordinary Crystals, rescuing people, or reducing the number of Hunters.

The street had few zombies, as it had been cleared, encountering little obstruction, and they reached a building in the middle of the street.

With Chen Ling leading, they entered through the front door of a jewelry store, passed through the back door, and arrived at the storage room.

In the darkness, Chen Ling skillfully pulled up a floorboard, revealing a wooden staircase with faint light emanating from below. He said, "This is it. Let's go down."

A voice whispered in Su Changxing's ear, "There aren't many people below, only seven or eight."

Seven or eight people?

Su Changxing frowned. He thought there would be many people as a temporary base for the Security Bureau but didn't expect only seven or eight.

One could surmise that there weren't many from the Security Bureau here, perhaps very few.

It seemed the Bureau's situation wasn't as good as he anticipated, possibly quite poor.

As they were halfway down, a scolding voice emanated from below.

"Who is it?"

A pot-bellied man in a police uniform stood at the stairway, holding an axe, looking at them cautiously.

He couldn't instantly discern whether Su Changxing and the others were their people, Hunters, or someone else entirely.

In the dark, both parties could only see a silhouette, not their faces.

Chen Ling put down his weapon and sighed in relief, saying, "It's me, Chen Ling from Team Five. Glad you haven't evacuated. Can Dr. Wu still work? We have wounded here."

The man in the police uniform relaxed upon hearing the familiar voice and the name "Chen Ling," replying, "You finally returned. Dr. Wu can still work... Who are they?"

He suddenly noticed the unfamiliar faces behind Chen Ling, making him vigilant again. Before, Hunters had infiltrated the base, bringing others and leading to the base's downfall.

Anyone not theirs posed a potential threat.

Chen Ling hesitated for a moment, then explained immediately, "They're not a problem. Together, we took down five Hunters."

"Five Hunters?"

The man in the police uniform showed a shocked expression, saying, "Then there's no problem. Come on down."

Su Changxing noticed that this man was in typical police attire, suggesting he was likely a policeman before the apocalypse or joined the Security Bureau afterward.

The man in the police uniform glanced at Su Changxing, offering a friendly smile, and said, "We're all on the same side here. Let me know directly if you need anything. I'm Lu Yu, the administrator here."

He had neatly trimmed short stubble, appearing well-groomed, revealing a shrewd vibe inside and out.

Su Changxing thought for a moment and earnestly asked, "Administrator? Does this base have a dedicated administrator?"

Lu Yu found it strange why the other party would ask such a question, but still replied, "Yes, a temporary administrator, also in charge of security."
