To be perfectly honest, it was the first time that Liora had ever met a living beast of this world.
Although she had indeed seen—and even eaten—several during her stay in the Black Tulip mansion, all of them were already dead by then.
Therefore, when she arrived before the metal fence, Liora couldn't help but take a moment to observe the Twilight Wolves, curiosity flashing in her eyes.
Gigantic—this was the first word that popped up in Liora's mind.
Wolves had always been a surprisingly tall creature, no matter the world they were in. Yet, the Twilight Wolves that Liora was staring at were even larger than usual.
More than three meters in height, they were covered in thick black fur that shone brightly, while their green eyes glistened with brutality, madness, and fierceness.
Liora instantly noticed that drops of fresh crimson blood were flowing out of some of the wolves' mouths and dripping onto the ground, while deep, gruesome wounds could be found on the bodies of the weakest among them.
Clearly, although they were of the same race, Twilight Wolves were not above fighting—or even feasting upon their companions.
Hearing the fierce growls and the sound of claws colliding with the metal fence as if the wolves inside were trying to break free, Liora remained calm.
After approaching the only opening of the fence, she opened the door and walked inside.
If Baron Bloodshield were here to see this, her actions would have left him stunned.
Even he—the person who had raised these wolves from small cubs—didn't dare to enter the cage so carelessly.
One simply had to take a look at the cruelty they showed towards their companions, and they would immediately come to understand that Twilight Wolves were not a group of tame, docile beasts.
Yet, as Liora stepped into the cage, the expected attack didn't arrive.
The moment the Twilight Wolves' eyes landed on her figure, their fur stood up, and they jumped back as if they were facing a terrifying humanoid beast.
A low growl came out of their mouths as they mustered up the courage and wished to intimidate her.
But when Liora's gaze wandered through their pack, the growls disappeared.
In just a split second, every sound in the cage ceased to exist. The Twilight Wolves stood silently with their back pressed against the metal fence, staring at Liora with fear and horror.
"It's said that the senses of animals are often keener than those of humans. The beasts of this world seem to retain this advantage.", Liora commented casually.
"Whether it was the True Knights I encountered in the Black Tulip mansion, Baron Bloodshield, or the two assassins, none of them noticed my true nature."
"But these beasts, though perhaps not conscious of it, can still sense the dangerous aura I subconsciously exude.", she analyzed.
Despite this, her movements didn't stop. With steady but even steps, she slowly approached the wolf pack.
With every step, the Twilight Wolves would flinch and try to step farther back, but faced with the metal fence surrounding them, they could do absolutely nothing.
In the end, until Liora arrived before them, none of the wolves escaped. And perhaps more importantly, none of the wolves had dared to attack her.
Seeing this, Liora nodded her head in satisfaction before reaching out with her right hand and grabbing one of the nearby wolves.
The Twilight Wolf seemed to want to struggle.
Its paws pressed against the ground as if it were about to jump, but faced with Liora's cold gaze, its consciousness suddenly froze.
Even though its strength could match that of a Knight Apprentice, the wolf didn't dare to put up any resistance, allowing Liora to grab its body and bring it before her like a child holding its toy.
Liora didn't pay attention to the Twilight Wolf's actions, and she would, of course, not care about its thoughts.
Placing the wolf, which was many times larger than her, before her, she pressed her hand against its fur and urged her demonic energy.
Instantly, the demonic energy flowed through her hand and entered the Twilight Wolf before spreading throughout its body.
As it did, the wolf's structure was revealed before Liora's eyes—whether it was its flesh, blood, bones, or even its deeper, more meaningful and hidden structure.
However, the results of this investigation surprised her.
"Such a rich and pure Life Force. Although its strength is quite weak, the Life Force of this thing is probably equivalent to that of a Great Knight.", Liora clicked her tongue in wonder.
Immediately, she understood why devouring the Twilight Wolves' blood and flesh would allow a Knight to significantly enhance their strength.
But at the same time, this brought forward several new questions.
"What exactly is the source of Life Force? How is it possible for both humans and beasts to possess it? Moreover, why is the Life Force of beasts so much purer than that of humans?"
Liora tried to find the answer for a few seconds, but in the end, she shook her head.
She understood that she was missing the most crucial link and, with her current knowledge, there was no way for her to get an answer.
Rather than mulling over something that was impossible to understand, it would be more worthwhile for her to improve her strength.
Thinking of this, Liora's eyes turned sharp. Lifting her head, she stared silently at the Twilight Wolf before her.
As if sensing her gaze and thoughts, the Twilight Wolf flinched and lowered its head, looking back at her with what it perhaps imagined to be a kind expression.
However, the bloodthirsty glint in its green eyes and the fresh blood dripping out of its mouth destroyed its efforts to act cute.
Of course, even if it managed to transform into the cutest thing in the world, Liora wouldn't care.
Glancing at the Twilight Wolf, Liora showed no hesitation.
Without saying a word, she clenched her fist.
Immediately, the demonic energy that was coursing through the wolf's body began to boil, as if it had turned into magma.
A flash of panic appeared in the wolf's green eyes as a sharp, soul-tearing pain assaulted its mind.
Unfortunately, just when it opened its mouth and was about to let out a cry for help, its body exploded.
Blood, flesh, and fragments of bones flew all over the place.
Thankfully, before they could turn this place into a mess, time seemed to have turned back.
Liora's demonic energy whistled through the air and picked up every single one of the wolf's remains before bringing them towards her right palm.
Only a few seconds later, the wolf's remains had gathered together, merging into a drop of pitch black liquid.
The liquid shone with a faint brilliance, while its surface rippled, as if it were alive.
"Is this the entire essence of the Twilight Wolf?", Liora muttered.
Sensing the yearning of the Life Force flowing within her, she didn't hold back.
With a flick of her fingers, the drop of black liquid shot out and entered her mouth.
As soon as it dropped down her throat, the drop dissolved into a stream of pure energy, which—forced by the Nightreaver Knight Technique—split into two distinct parts.
One part was guided to Liora's muscles and bones and worked to enhance her physical strength, while the other one mixed with her Life Force.
