Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 126: Dandelion [16] - Life Ignition

In fact, as long as a Knight did not overuse Life Ignition, there was absolutely no reason for their lifespan to be exhausted that easily.

After all, a Knight Apprentice could live for more than a hundred years.

A True Knight one hundred and fifty, while the total lifespan of a Great Knight reached an astonishing two hundred years.

Even if a Great Knight spent more than fifty years in order to ignite their Life Seed, they should still be able to live for about one hundred and fifty years.

Unfortunately, reality was not a game.

Once someone became a Great Knight, their status and power would rise accordingly. But with that came a completely different set of challenges.

For example, becoming the enemy of other Great Knights.

Most of the time, once two Great Knights chose to fight, the most daring one—or the one more willing to sacrifice their lifespan—would emerge victorious.

This was the reason why the unusual phenomenon of True Knights living longer than Great Knights occurred.

'But the improvement brought by Life Ignition is totally worth it. I'm afraid that, besides being forced to do it by the circumstances, many Great Knights are simply addicted to the sense of wielding overwhelming power.', Liora thought.

If before this rank, Devils held an absolute advantage over the Knights of this world, then once a Knight reached the Great Knight rank, the gap between them would narrow.

With sufficient combat experience and having comprehended a large number of skills—offensive and defensive—Great Knights could defeat ranked Young Devils with relative ease.

'Although I haven't comprehended any Knight skills, I still possess my abilities as a Devil. Being both a Great Knight and a ranked Young Devil, my current combat power cannot be judged by common sense.'

Though she had just entered these ranks, Liora could see that her power had reached the peak of both the ranked Young Devil stage and the Great Knight rank.

If she had to estimate, her combat power was equivalent to that of the Blasphemer, who hadn't utilized the Holy Domain to exert stronger power.

"Moreover, unlike other Great Knights, the drawbacks of Life Ignition are hardly a concern for me.", Liora thought as she checked her own state.

Instantly, she noticed that igniting her Life Seed barely took a toll on her body.

Coupled with the fact that—as a Devil—her lifespan was already very long, she could basically use Life Ignition without suffering much damage.

"Unlike Knight Apprentices, a Little Devil is a mere consumable in the eyes of the Demon World. Thus, they only have a lifespan of a couple of months."

"However, once a Devil advances to a Young Devil, their lifespan will increase to approximately two hundred years, surpassing the True Knights of this world."

"Lesser Devils can live for about one thousand years, while True Devils can survive for more than two thousand. In many worlds, these Devils are considered immortal."

"As for Greater Devils? Beings on that level have various methods to extend their lives. Under suitable conditions and with a bit of luck, the extraordinary among them can have a life of one hundred thousand years."

Although Devils were forced to face cruel trial after trial and had to survive in the cruel environment of the Demon World, they still held a considerable amount of advantages.

A long lifespan just happened to be one of them.

'But the Great Knights of this world are quite similar to Devils. After all, rarely can either of them reach the end of their lifespan and enjoy their long life.'

One died because of overusing Life Ignition, while the other met their demise because of the Demon World's "training".

"Perhaps this is the price of growing stronger. To obtain something, you have to sacrifice something else.", Liora murmured.

But soon, she shook her head. For the time being, lifespan was none of her concerns.

She had only lived for more than a year so far and had a long way to go before worrying about exhausting her lifespan.

Rather than wasting time mulling over this, it would be better to concentrate on the matter at hand.

And the matter at hand was obviously locating the Necronomicon Sect's stronghold.

"Before, my consciousness could only explore the area in a small radius around me. Now, this radius has become many times greater. Most importantly, my abilities have been further unsealed."

"Void Whisper can perhaps aid me in finding what I'm looking for."

Liora's words seemed to carry a strange power, as the moment she finished her speech, Void Whisper indeed activated.

At once, countless faint whispers began ringing directly in her mind.

Though these whispers didn't grant her any information but only gave a set of coordinates, this was already enough to pique her interest.

Recalling her suspicions about the nature of this world, she didn't choose to ignore the Void Whisper's guidance.

Instead, she pushed her feet against the ground and launched herself into the air.

In the blink of an eye, her figure had flashed tens of meters above the earth.

Yet, just when it seemed that she was going to fall to her death, a pair of shadowy wings materialized behind her back. With a gentle motion, they propelled her forward.

At the same time, a pale domain covered Liora's body and her surroundings, concealing her presence and erasing any sounds she would have otherwise produced.

In fact, Liora had been able to "fly" since her days in the Crucible.

She had refrained from doing so earlier because she was worried that it would alarm the mighty beings hidden within the Ancient Beast Wilderness.

But now that her strength had been enhanced and her Silent Domain had been unsealed, she was no longer as worried.

As long as a beast surpassing the Great Knight rank didn't show up, they would find it impossible to spot her, much less defeat and kill her.

With the wings pushing her forward and the lack of any obstacles she had to avoid, Liora's pace was rapid.

Before long, she had arrived at the place where Void Whisper had guided her to.

There, she saw two parties fighting.
