Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 130: Dandelion [20] - Research

Hearing the sharp words coming out of the two elderly men's mouths, the towering figure standing behind the young man lowered his hand, looking ready to unsheathe the long sword hanging at his waist.

Fortunately, just when it seemed that he was about to strike and slice the two researchers into two for daring to disrespect his master, the young man discreetly held him back.

Faced with the furious expressions of the two men and their harsh tones, the young man was surprisingly able to keep his composure.

His muscles twitched as a slight smile crept across his face, and he rushed to apologize:

"I'm really sorry to have disturbed your research. It's just that there have been some new developments and my father has requested that I inform you.", he explained, his voice polite.

His attitude was quite low considering his high status, indicating that he knew how to restrain himself and was not a mere playboy.

Unfortunately, the two old men didn't reciprocate this behavior.

With obvious irritation on their aged faces, they stared straight at the young man before one of them took the initiative to speak.

"What is so important that it can't wait for our experiment to finish? Go on! We're busy!", he waved his weathered right hand, urging the young man to say what he wanted.

In response, the young man's lips twitched.

Even with his good upbringing and the guidance he had received over the years from many teachers, he found it challenging to maintain his smile.

As the son of a Great Knight and a well-known noble, when had he ever been treated like this? Especially by two crazy, senile old men.

If he were not concerned that arguing with these two people would disrupt the plans of the Holy Sect and his father, he would have ordered his guard to cut them into pieces and throw them to the dogs.

Still, knowing that now was not the time to have an argument, he took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.

Then, he spoke:

"My father has requested that the research should speed up. The Holy Sect is preparing to take action within the next year."

"Your research should be concluded as soon as possible. Preferably within the next thirty days."

Before the noble could finish his words, though, the two researchers had already gone into a frenzy.

"You're insane! Do you know what you're asking of us? It's impossible to finish the research within half a year, much less within a month!"

The young noble's words seemed to have severely impacted the two old men, as they ruthlessly brandished the small scalpels in their hands, looking ready to attack him despite the difference in strength.

Witnessing such an intense response, the young man couldn't help but roll his eyes.

However, he had already foreseen such an outcome and had come prepared.

Just when the two researchers were about to launch themselves at him, he spoke up once more.

This time, though, his voice was no longer as soft.

"These are not only the orders of my father, but also of the Holy Sect.", he stated, and noticing that this seemed to have helped the two people calm down, he added:

"Moreover, the Holy Sect attaches great importance to this matter. The leader has promised my father that, as long as the research is successful, they will grant everyone a chance to obtain Immortality."

The moment his words fell, the movements of the two elderly men halted.

The rage in their eyes disappeared in an instant, replaced by an obsessive crimson light filled with longing.

"Are you telling the truth? Will the Holy Sect grant us the chance to enter the Holy Spring?", one of them hurried to ask.

When his question received a small nod from the young man, the moods of the two people changed.

Immediately, they thumped their chests with their right fists and took a solemn vow:

"Don't worry. We can complete the research within a month. Give us three—no! Two weeks!", they stumbled to speak, obviously excited at the prospect of entering the so-called Holy Spring.

Seeing the one-eighty change in their attitude, the young man nodded his head, seemingly pleased.

After giving a few more instructions and confirming a couple more times that the Holy Sect had indeed given such a guarantee, the young man took his guard and exited the chamber.

The moment the door behind him shut, the polite smile on his face vanished, replaced by a disdainful sneer.

"A bunch of untouchables! They dare to bargain with my father and me. Once everything is over... Hmph!", he spat angrily before turning around and leaving.

A few minutes after his departure, at the place where the young man and his guard originally stood, the shadows gurgled, and a figure stepped out of the darkness.

Not surprisingly, that figure was Liora, who had followed the aura of evil and reached this place.

The conversation between the two researchers and the noble young man had fallen into her ears, piquing her curiosity.

She was not only interested in the Holy Spring and the chance of Immortality that the three people repeatedly mentioned, but also in the research they were secretly conducting.

Though Liora had never met the woman who was being operated on, she had seen her in the past.

Not personally, but in the intelligence that Eleanor had given her.

This woman was one of the many citizens who had gone missing in the fiefdom of Earl Black Tulip, suspected of having been abducted by Baron Bloodshield and his subordinates.

Clearly, after going through the Baron's hands, the woman—or rather her corpse—had reached this place.

Coupled with the many children that she had seen not long ago, Liora finally understood where the missing people had ended up.

"Abducting children and forcing them to train as Knights before turning them into troops. Kidnapping women before turning them into research materials..."

"What exactly is the Necronomicon Sect hoping to achieve?"

"Or rather, what are they planning?"
