Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 161: King of Knights [17] - Eleanor's Complaints

A few hours later, Liora stood silently on top of a cluster of clouds, surrounded by a large number of massive corpses.

Some of these corpses belonged to wolves, others to snakes and birds, while there were some that fully transcended the concept of animals, being completely unrecognizable.

Yet, no matter what their identity was, the aura that each of these corpses exuded was surprisingly powerful.

Even the weakest among them reached the peak of the True Knight rank, and some of them were as powerful as Great Knights.

The corpses in front of her and the many Evolution Points on the System Panel were Liora's main harvest during her stay in the city's walls.

After she glanced at the corpses around her and nodded in satisfaction, Liora no longer hesitated.

She brought her hand up and stretched it forward before clenching it into a tight fist.

In response, the many beast corpses suddenly exploded from within.

Their skin and flesh tore apart and gathered like crumpled pieces of paper, merging with their blood into a single black droplet.

Then, these droplets shot straight towards Liora's outstretched palm.

In turn, they also merged, soon turning from several dark droplets into just one.

Looking at the black droplet containing the essence of every single one of the dead beasts, Liora felt the clear longing coming from her body.

The Life Seed on her abdomen trembled and pulsed rhythmically, telling her that swallowing it would bring her great benefits.

Liora didn't restrain that impulse.

With a flick of her fingers, she tossed the droplet into her mouth.

Then, under the operation of the Lavender Knight Technique, it was transformed into pure energy and flowed into her body.

Liora felt her strength increase.

Both the power of her physical body and her Life Force improved. This improvement was not massive, but it was still noticeable.

"My current strength is already very strong. Even a slight improvement would require other Knights to spend years, if not decades, training hard.", she thought silently as her consciousness checked her own condition.

"Still, at this rate, it would take me a few months to reach the peak of the Great Knight rank. It seems that I have to target even stronger prey in the future."

Other Knights would have been overjoyed with such a rapid rate of progress. But Liora was not an ordinary Knight.

She would not lose control of her emotions about such a small thing.

If anything, she felt that her rate of improvement was not quick enough.

Just when Liora was about to take a deeper look into her Life Seed, a small light flickered in her eyes.

Sighing, she waved her hand and cleaned up the mess before exiting the Space Orb's demi-plane.

With a flash, her figure vanished, leaving only the white clouds, the scattered items, and the sleeping beauty behind.

--

While Liora was busy having fun at the walls of the city and watching the war go on, Eleanor did not have such a great time.

As a noble, she didn't immediately join the ranks of the soldiers and battle against the invading beasts.

Instead, she first had to meet Duchess Lobelia and then attend a meeting between the Duchess and the nobles.

This meeting lasted for quite a while, and many important topics were discussed, such as the responsibilities of each noble and, perhaps most importantly, the Duchess's plan to deal with the beasts.

Although Eleanor didn't say anything about what took place, Liora could see worry amid her exhausted face.

If she was not mistaken, the meeting had not gone well.

Or at the very least, it had not gone as Eleanor initially expected.

"What's up? Did the Duchess order the Black Tulip family to guard a dangerous place? Or did she issue a dangerous mission?", Liora asked calmly.

While she was talking, the Space Orb danced beautifully within her palm as if it were a toy.

Hearing her question, Eleanor didn't immediately reply.

She first took a seat and took a deep breath before opening her mouth and speaking.

"No.", she shook her head.

"If anything, it's the opposite. We will be staying in the city for now."

Perhaps Eleanor didn't have anyone else to talk to, as she seemed truly happy to answer Liora's question.

Her younger brother was an Earl in name only, lacking the ability and the majesty that a noble like that should possess.

At the same time, the other members of the Black Tulip family feared her greatly, mostly because of the ruthless ways she had used to suppress the voices of opposition within the family.

Therefore, Eleanor felt that the only person she could talk to without worries was Liora.

Though she was a little afraid of her and her inexplicable abilities, she only needed a person to hear her complaints.

"Duchess Lobelia has ordered that the strategy used will remain the same. The nobles have been ordered not to take any action unless a truly powerful beast steps forward and threatens to invade the city.", Eleanor said, her tone calm and steady.

However, her fists trembled while she was speaking, making her inner anger obvious.

"Even when Great Knight beasts appear, the nobles have been ordered to remain still. To keep letting the soldiers 'feed' the beasts poison instead of fighting them."

Her words made Liora understand where Eleanor's fury stemmed from.

Although Eleanor had shown several times that she could be ruthless and cruel, this was only when she was forced by the situation.

At other times, Eleanor would be kind, worried about other people and their safety.

This was the case when she learned of Baron Bloodshield's kidnapping, and it was also the case when she met the woman chased by the bandits.

Yet, even though she knew this, Liora didn't say anything to comfort her.

Not only because she believed that Duchess Lobelia's decision was the correct one, but also because she felt that she didn't need to.
