Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 53: First Place [1] - Utopia

Unbeknownst to most Devils in the Crucible, somewhere within its countless empty stretches of land, a vast city had quietly risen.

The city stretched for quite a few kilometers, while the loud voices and overall atmosphere made it clear that it was densely populated.

In one of the city's many bustling streets, a scarlet-haired woman was currently walking alone, quietly observing her surroundings.

Looking at the gorgeous uniform buildings, pristine streets, and smiling, talkative Devils around her, Liora couldn't help but feel a little strange.

Since her birth, her entire life had been spent amidst constant carnage and slaughter. This held true even when she stayed in the City of Embers, and later in the City of Pain.

Yet now, while wandering in this city, she almost had the illusion that she had returned to Earth.

Many Devils walked through the streets and passed by her, stopping from time to time to chat with their friends and greet their neighbors with wide, kind smiles.

"Ah—sorry!"

Suddenly, Liora noticed something hit her legs, followed by a loud exclamation.

Lowering her head, she found that it was a small, dog-sized Devil with crooked horns, who had stumbled and fallen on her.

The Devil lifted its head and stared at her with teary eyes, apologizing profusely with utmost sincerity.

Waving her hand to calm it down, Liora took a deeper look at it before continuing her walk.

Half an hour later, when she had visited most of the city, she didn't leave, but instead found a random bar and entered it.

After finding a seat on the fourth floor, she ordered a drink from the polite waitress and glanced out of the window.

From that height, she had a panoramic view of the entire city.

"I have to admit: the Blasphemer did a fine job creating this city.", Liora sighed.

It had been a few days since she obtained the Ant Devil's memories, and from that moment, she had decided to visit the Blasphemer's dream city.

Although entry and exit were strictly forbidden, Liora didn't face any issues infiltrating it with her current strength.

Even though Liora had already witnessed the Blasphemer's achievements through the eyes of the Ant Devil, seeing them as an image and seeing them personally were completely different.

"If it were not for the surging demonic energy and the grotesque appearances, I would have almost mistaken this as a city of humans.", she thought as she received her drink from the waitress and took a small sip.

But immediately, she almost spat it out.

Glancing at the glass in her hand—filled with juice instead of alcohol—she took back everything she had just said about Blasphemer.

"Bah! This madman actually banned alcohol, claiming that it's the temptation of the Demon World. Only non-alcoholic beverages are allowed in this damn city."

Suppressing the urge to leap out of the window and find the Blasphemer to settle the score, Liora grudgingly took another sip of her dri—juice.

--

A few hours later, Liora walked out of the bar, feeling as though she had been humiliated.

Casting a glance at the kind, smiling waitress staring at her through the window, she memorized her face, planning to wait for a suitable opportunity to teach her a lesson.

Then, she turned around without looking back and blended into the city.

This time, her destination was clear.

It was the only place where she hadn't been so far—the very center of the city.

Liora couldn't understand what the Devils' obsession was with making the center of their city its main attraction.

Whether it was Lord Embers or the Torturer, they had built a huge tower and a Gothic castle, respectively.

And the Blasphemer had almost done the same.

It's just that, unlike the other two, who had built a grand residence for themselves, the Blasphemer had not built a huge building, but a gigantic statue made out of pure gold.

Raising her head, Liora's eyes narrowed as she observed the massive golden statue before her.

It was more than twenty meters in height and depicted a muscular young man wearing thick armor.

His face was angular, sharp, and handsome, while his eyes shone with a sense of virtue and justice.

A pair of feathered wings extended from each side of his back, enveloping his figure and making him look like an angel that had descended to the mortal world.

"Oh, great Saint — please bring salvation upon us. Let us bathe in your Holy Light!"

"Praise the Saint!"

"You're the most Holy, the Lord of the Seekers, the one who shall lead us to Heaven!"

Many pious voices echoed in Liora's ears, as right in front of the statue, a large number of Devils knelt on the ground, their heads almost coming in contact with the stone floor.

They raised their limbs—hands, claws, tentacles, or whatever they possessed—to their chest, and prayed devoutly to the golden statue.

Liora felt ironic as she watched this scene unfold.

A bunch of deformed Devils were praying to an angel-like figure, wishing for salvation and for him to save them.

What was even worse was that when she closely inspected them, Liora found no external influence on them.

Clearly, these Devils truly admired and believed in the Blasphemer from the bottom of their heart, seeing him as a Savior-like figure that was sent by Heaven.

Just when Liora was deep in thought, the sound of footsteps rang behind her, gradually becoming stronger.

She didn't turn around but waited, only turning her head when their owner stopped beside her.

The person had a young face that was filled with righteousness, while wearing golden armor.

The moment he appeared, the entire world seemed to resonate with his figure, as brilliant lights fell from the sky and draped over him like a veil.

His unfathomable aura, coupled with his resemblance to the statue not far away, made his identity quite obvious.

This man was the Saint that the kneeling Devils believed in—widely known in the Crucible as the Blasphemer.
