Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 74: Leaving [5] - Dream

Liora had a dream.

In the dream, she found herself having returned to the time when she had just been born, as if she had become a silent observer of her own life.

Yet, this time, although her starting point remained exactly the same, the development of the rest of her life took a completely different turn.

Having no system in her possession, she was unable to dominate the River of Oblivion, only barely managing to survive by virtue of her own intelligence until the First Trial's end.

Teleported to the dark void where Young Devils advanced, Liora didn't have a way to judge what bloodline each star represented.

As such, she didn't awaken the mysterious [Unknown] bloodline but instead became an ordinary Gale Devil.

Though faced with such hardships, she didn't give up, choosing to persevere.

Using the slightest of advantages that her bloodline provided her, she secretly hunted down the Devils weaker than her, gradually growing her strength through tireless fighting.

Liora watched silently as all of this happened.

Although this body was her own, she was unable to interfere with her own actions in the dream as if she were trapped in her own body.

She didn't know how much time had passed, but finally, 'she' in the dream managed to become a ranked Devil, entering the Crucible Ranking and reaching the apex of the Crucible.

Yet, just when one would think that 'she' would grow even stronger and reach the first place, 'she' suddenly died—besieged by her enemies and other Devils who wished to plunder her Slaughter Points.

As Liora watched herself being torn apart and becoming a meal for the Young Devils, the world around her began to crumble before shattering into pieces.

For a brief moment, Liora hoped that she would return to reality.

But unfortunately, she didn't.

When she opened her eyes again, she found herself back at the very start—back at the River of Oblivion—back at the time when she had just been born.

Liora could only watch helplessly as 'her' journey started all over.

From struggling in the River of Oblivion, to awakening the Flame Devil bloodline, and subsequently entering the Crucible.

Apart from a small number of insignificant changes—such as the bloodline she awakened—her life seemed to be the same as the previous one.

But soon, this changed.

Soon after her arrival in the Crucible, 'she' met a hungry ranked Devil that happened to be passing by and died in their hands, unable to put up any resistance.

Then, a familiar scene. The world around her shattered, and her vision went dark.

A few moments later, Liora's consciousness traveled back in time once again—back to the place where everything began.

One... Two... Ten... One Hundred...

Before long, Liora had lost count of just how many lives she had gone through.

Her identity was also changing in every life.

Sometimes she was an ordinary Devil struggling to survive at the bottom of society, while at other times she was lucky, managing to enter the Crucible Ranking.

In her worst life, Liora became a mindless tentacled monster, roaming the Crucible like a hungry beast looking for food.

At first, Liora's consciousness was as solid as a rock. Her life as the Crimson Maiden was still vivid and remained abundantly clear in her mind.

But, as the "reincarnations" continued and showed no signs of stopping, even Liora found herself feeling confused.

She began doubting herself, doubting whether her life as the Crimson Maiden was only one of these many reincarnations, nothing more than an empty dream.

The more she questioned herself, the more real her reincarnations became.

As lives passed, Liora started merging with herself in the dream, gradually taking control over her body as if that was how it should have always been.

Although Liora noticed these changes and wanted to break away, the irresistible power of flowing time and the mysterious aura permeating throughout the dreams rendered her helpless.

Her consciousness grew increasingly empty.

As if she were turning into a puppet, her emotions began flowing away and dispersing, while her memories as the Crimson Maiden were slowly being wiped out.

Just when it seemed that Liora's last emotion would dissipate and her consciousness would be erased, the crimson sky right above suddenly split.

From the sky, a large object exuding a powerful—strangely familiar—aura descended and landed right before her.

Despite her muddled state, Liora's innate curiosity took over as she looked down and observed this unknown object.

It was a single wing made of pristine white feathers, with one of its ends dripping with blood along a smooth, extremely precise cut.

The moment her eyes fell on the wing, a stream of memories poured into Liora's mind.

Erasha. Soul Devil. Alpha. Scurry. Lord Embers.

Crimson Maiden.

Several names and titles appeared inexplicable in her mind, jolting her awake.

Her hazy eyes recovered and regained their crimson luster, while her consciousness cleared up.

"So that's how it is. Is this your final test?", 'she' in the dream muttered while facing the crimson sky, right before her consciousness was expelled from her own body.

Liora didn't mind.

If anything, she was delighted, happy to have finally escaped the fate of replacing 'herself' and becoming a part of the dream.

Curiously, she raised her head and glanced at the illusory world around her, only to find that it was fracturing as if it were about to shatter once more.

As soon as this thought emerged, the world, indeed, shook and broke apart, just like it had already done thousands of times before.

Yet this time, Liora noticed something unusual. The explosion didn't cause her to return to the River of Oblivion, nor did it bring her to the City of Pain.

Instead, she found herself floating alone in a vast, dark void, surrounded by countless revolving stars that shone brilliantly.

Liora recognized this space.

Not only because she had seen it in her inherited memories, but also because she had visited this place in the past, during her advancement to a Young Devil.

Recalling that experience, Liora thought of something and summoned the System Panel.

Instantly, a light flashed in her field of vision before materializing into many strings of words.
