Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 91: Descent [7] - Adaptation

However, Liora showed no discomfort in having invested all of her Evolution Points.

She could sense that her strength had recovered a lot as a result, and she had regained the power of an ordinary Young Devil.

Moreover, she noticed a familiar call coming from the shadows beneath her, as if they were children who were vying for her attention.

Glancing at the brackets behind Shadow Manipulation that had now turned into (Partially Unsealed), she understood that the enhancement of her base stats had also allowed her to unseal some of her suppressed abilities.

Although her current state was still far worse than her real strength, Liora was confident that, taking into account her extraordinary combat experience and many means, she would be able to emerge victorious against most Young Devils.

Even though Liora had undergone such a massive transformation, the time it took for the changes to occur was actually very brief.

Standing half a step behind her, the blonde woman didn't notice anything wrong with Liora, showcasing the System's superb power and mysteriousness once again.

Casting a glance at the woman—whose eyes were still glued to the figure of the person she earlier named as Uncle Roger—Liora remained calm.

Turning her head, she observed the battle that was taking place not far away.

With her vision and experience, she was instantly able to estimate the final outcome.

Before long, Roger would be defeated.

Even though he might be able to injure his opponent before his death, his fate had, for all intents and purposes, already been decided.

Clearly, the attackers had already known about his existence before they chose to attack the mansion.

Since they still dared to attack, it meant that they were confident enough to deal with him.

Liora's thoughts soon proved to be true.

After narrowly dodging the powerful sword slash of Roger, the holy knight swung his sword around and, bypassing Roger's defense, struck straight across his torso.

It was as if this attack had received God's assistance.

As the sharp edge tore Roger's chest apart, tiny amounts of holy power that were impossible to expel remained on the open wound.

They squirmed around like bloodthirsty maggots, not only preventing the wound from healing but also making it even more severe.

The aura of Roger fluctuated.

His movements paused for a brief moment, and his face twisted into a painful grimace.

Detecting this, the holy knight didn't let him go.

Taking advantage of Roger's brief pause, he charged forward and slashed with all his strength, not giving him any time to adjust his state.

"Sure enough!", Liora, on the side, muttered as she calmly watched the fight unfold.

In fact, Liora hadn't suddenly awakened an odd hobby and chosen to become a voyeur.

The reason she didn't take action but carefully analyzed the two Knights' fight was because of the Myriad Devils Body's new effect—Supreme Adaptation.

She had noticed that from the very first moment she had landed in this world, the Myriad Devils Body had activated on its own.

It was constantly modifying her body secretly, as if it were trying to make her more suitable for this environment.

This had already been noticeable during her battle with the Priest in the underground room, and it had become even more noticeable as she watched the two powerful knights fight.

Her crimson eyes didn't blink as they dissected the two Knights' movements, analyzing the mysteriousness of their actions and allowing Supreme Adaptation to incorporate their mysteries into her body.

Though this didn't immediately improve her strength, Liora knew that it would sooner or later prove useful.

Unfortunately, all good things were destined not to last for a long time.

While Liora was admiring their battle, the situation of Roger grew increasingly dire.

A large number of wounds had formed all over his body in a short period of time, and whether it was his hands, torso, or even face, they were completely covered in scratches.

Seeing this, Liora glanced at the anxious woman behind her and understood that she could no longer remain a silent witness.

Letting out a "powerless" sigh, she let the shadows beneath her devour her body as she was slowly erased from existence.

When she reappeared, her figure had teleported behind the holy knight, and a pitch-black dagger had appeared in her hand, which she thrust forward.

Though her actions were fast, the holy knight was not to be underestimated.

Noticing the movements behind him, he adjusted his posture and turned around, a hint of wonder flashing across his pupils as he faced the dagger's glowing edge.

"Another True Knight? It seems that everyone has underestimated your Black Tulip family.", the holy knight spoke, obviously mistaking Liora as a member of the mansion.

Although she understood this, Liora wasn't planning to correct him.

Like a silent, trained assassin who could always remain calm, she continued aiming at his chest.

The Knight's reaction was also pretty quick.

Taking back the attack that he was about to throw in Roger's direction, he brought the golden sword before him, placing it between his body and the dagger's future trajectory.

However, just when it seemed that he would be able to fend off Liora's attack with ease, the holy knight's eyes shrank.

Under his incredulous gaze, the dagger dissolved into a puff of black mist before transforming into a tiny needle and shooting at his forehead.

This action caught him off guard, while the remaining momentum of his previous action made it impossible for him to parry.

Helpless, the knight could only watch the needle gradually get closer, until finally, it pierced the skin between his eyebrows.

The needle passed straight through his head and, without facing any resistance, stabbed his brain.

Though extraordinary, the holy knight was still a human.

Once his brain was attacked, he would still die, no matter how strong he seemed to be.

In his final moments, the knight stared at Liora, his golden pupils filled with disbelief and horror, as if he had seen something incredible.

"Great Knight...", he struggled to speak as he took his final breath.
