Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 93: Knights [2] - Red Apple

The book's title read:

Nightreaver Knight Technique.

...

Although the book contained a huge amount of information and would have driven most people mad, Liora's thinking process—even in her weakened state—was extremely fast.

Thus, it only took her a few minutes to go through the entire book and fully digest its contents.

As she did, she gradually gained a deeper understanding of the Knights in this world.

Leaning back in her seat, Liora tapped her fingers against the desk as she calmly analyzed the information she had just memorized.

"Just like I initially thought, Knights are indeed the 'superhumans' of this world..."

"According to this book, Knights can sense the hidden Life Force within their bodies. By slowly improving its quality and quantity, they can enhance their own strength and gain extraordinary power."

Knight Apprentice, True Knight, Great Knight...

These were the three ranks of Knight that the book mentioned.

Based on the ranks' descriptions and her earlier experiences, Liora was roughly able to estimate the power that each rank possessed.

"A Knight Apprentice should be equivalent to a Little Devil. The Priest I killed in the underground room should be at this rank. Though he must have reached the peak of this stage.", Liora closed her eyes and thought.

"The holy knight and Uncle Roger are both True Knights. This means that a True Knight is equivalent to a Young Devil."

"As for Great Knights?"

"Although a Knight's strength will undergo a massive transformation once they reach this rank, they should still be far weaker than a Lesser Devil. Their strength should be similar to a Young Devil that has a place on the Crucible Ranking."

Even though this world was clearly far weaker than the Demon World, Liora showed no disappointment.

After all—for a Lesser Devil like her—being in such a world was not a disadvantage. If anything, it was a good thing.

In the Demon World, she was a mere weakling who could be bullied by a bunch of Fire Elementals and had to escape in fear just to survive.

But as long as she regained her full strength, there would be no one who could match her. By then, dominating this low-level world of Knights should be fairly easy.

"Moreover, it's very likely that there is still a rank above the Great Knights. Such a rank should truly possess the power of a Lesser Devil."

Thinking of this, Liora glanced at the book in her hand and pondered whether she should try to practice the power system of this world.

Although Knights were weaker than Devils, it was mentioned in her inherited memories that practicing the power systems of other worlds was the best way to integrate into them, making it easier to get rid of the world's suppression.

Such a thing would be impossible for other creatures, but for Devils—a race created to invade other worlds—this carried no hidden risks.

If Liora were to practice this power system and become a Great Knight, she would not only regain a large part of her strength, but she would possibly unseal even more of her abilities.

And that was without the need to spend Evolution Points.

"Unfortunately, I can't become a Knight yet. For one to become a Knight, they have to possess a certain bloodline. This technique is also the same."

Liora didn't know why that was, but she also knew that it was impossible to dig out the reason at the moment.

The only thing she could do was think about how to bypass this restriction.

Countless thoughts raced through Liora's mind, and soon, a nascent idea took form as she remembered her current abilities.

Before she could put that idea into action, though, a somewhat timid knock came from the library's wooden door.

Sensing the familiar aura outside, Liora didn't rise to her feet but calmly spoke:

"Enter!"

The moment her words fell, a trembling hand clutched the door's handle and opened it slowly before its owner stepped in.

The person that walked in was the woman who had summoned her to this world, who—by now—had fixed her messy appearance.

As soon as she entered the room, the woman saw the serious expression on Liora's face, and her heart skipped a beat.

However, she forced an awkward smile on her face and approached cautiously, before placing a wooden tray on the desk.

"Lord Liora, I've brought you something to eat and drink.", the woman said as she removed the cloth covering the tray, revealing two plates of food, a single red apple, and a small cup of sweet tea.

Perhaps because she was embarrassed by this "grand" display, the woman tried her best to explain:

"I'm really sorry, but Your Excellency should have seen the current condition of the mansion. This is the best we can offer at the moment.", she said, her cheeks gaining a tinge of red as she spoke.

Glancing at the food that was neatly placed before her as if it were her school lunch, Liora couldn't help but feel speechless.

She had never expected that one day, she—a Devil feared throughout the Heavens—would be offered food by someone.

Much less such ordinary-looking, mortal food.

Of course, although it was somewhat unexpected, it didn't go against her initial impression of the blonde woman.

In Liora's opinion, this person didn't understand her true identity and had either summoned a Devil accidentally or had been misled into it by someone.

Though such cases were rare, they were still quite common.

After all, many Devils and generally evil people had the unusual hobby of tricking innocent people.

Leaving an item or inheritance that could summon Devils from the Demon World was the most preferred "prank".

Shaking her head, Liora pushed these inexplicable thoughts aside and was about to return back to reading.

However, before she could do so, she had to deal with another matter.

Raising her head, she glanced at the woman who was still standing beside her and fidgeting nervously.

Seeing this, Liora picked up the apple and took a bite off it before speaking up.

"Is there something else?", she asked.

"Ah—Uhm!"

The woman's body shook when she heard her voice, as if she had not expected her question.

Lowering her hands and clutching the corners of her dress nervously, she mustered up her courage and spoke:

"Uh—uh, Lord Liora. Please refer to me as Eleanor.", the woman introduced herself.

Noticing the lack of interest on Liora's face, she continued:

"I'm embarrassed to make such a request, but I believe Your Excellency has already witnessed the state of my Black Tulip family. My father—the Earl—died last month, while Uncle Roger—the last True Knight in the family—has fallen unconscious."

Liora understood what she was trying to imply, but she didn't interrupt. Instead, she let her finish her speech, wanting to see what she would say.

Facing her lack of reaction, Eleanor almost swallowed the words she was about to say. But when she thought of her brother, she regained the earlier courage.

"I know that Your Excellency is not obligated to do so, but I ask that you stay in the mansion. As long as you are willing to agree, my brother and I are willing to do everything in our power to complete all of your requests."

While speaking, Eleanor instinctively lowered her head, unsure whether this was a way to hide her embarrassment or if she did it to show her respect to Liora.
