Mushroom Lord in the Underground City

Chapter 119: Viscount Squad (Part 2)

"You two, go in and scout the path."

Outside the cave, the Viscount pointed to the deep passageway, and his words made Huck feel like he was plunging into an icy abyss.

Along the way, he had encountered Pukis lurking in the ground and flying in the sky, giving him a full sense of the danger level on this floor.

At Level 42, Golden Tier, he absolutely couldn't survive on this level alone.

Huck couldn't understand how the adventurers here usually managed to get by. Did they only operate on the first four floors?

Now, the Viscount wanted him and another person to explore this obviously suspicious tunnel?

In this kind of terrain, if a few exploding Pukis appeared, he wasn't confident he could escape...

But he had no choice. Under the Viscount's intimidating gaze, Huck could only bite the bullet and enter.

The sloping tunnel was pitch black, but fortunately, Huck had the Lighting Technique to illuminate the uneven uphill path for the two of them.

If he weren't a mage who could use the Lighting Technique, perhaps the Viscount would have chosen someone else to go in, Huck thought to himself.

"How long is this path anyway?"

After hearing his companion complain like this for the third time, the two finally reached a room.

Carefully polished stone walls, eight peculiarly shaped supporting pillars, and the stone altar at the far end with the Yellow-covered Book on it.

"Is that the Holy Scripture the Viscount mentioned?"

If I take it and hand it to the Viscount, it would definitely be a great achievement!

Thinking this, Huck's body remained motionless.

His companion, initially intending to step forward, glanced at the immovable Huck and chuckled, stopping as well.

Tsk!

It's the type Huck hated—cunning guy.

At times like this, he began to miss the hand axe, which always charged forward foolishly.

Puff puff—

While the two were in a stalemate, four Pukis emerged from behind the stone altar, two with scales and two without.

More Pukis?

Huck scanned around; there were no other demons.

If it were just four Pukis...

Huck exchanged glances with his companion.

"I'll support you with spells."

This time, his companion didn't refuse and nodded. It seemed the danger wasn't too great for now.

Tier Four Magic—Wind Speed!

Tier Two Magic—Wind Blade!

The acceleration effect was enhanced on the advancing teammate, and Huck unleashed a Wind Blade, intending to take out a Puki first.

The Wind Blade reached its target in the blink of an eye, but just as it was about to cut into a Puki, a black whip flashed by.

Like the clash of blades, a Puki flicked its blade-tipped fungal filament tail, just intercepting the incoming Wind Blade.

"Huh?"

If the Puki had dodged, Huck could accept it, but directly whipping apart the Wind Blade, what the heck?

It wasn't over yet. Huck noticed the two scale-less Pukis across the way suddenly gathering a large amount of magic power...

"Watch out!"

Fortunately, his teammate wasn't a novice. Relying on the Wind Speed boost, he dodged the sudden magical explosion and then engaged in close combat with the scale-armored Pukis.

At this point, anyone who wasn't a fool could see that these four Pukis were no ordinary beings; they were at least different from those outside that could only self-destruct.

For a moment, it was hard to tell who had the upper hand.

Huck decided to do something drastic to break the deadlock—be ruthless to his teammate!

More magic power gathered in front of his magic staff, and after a not-so-short charging time—

Tier Six Magic—Great Storm!

Countless swirling Wind Blades flew forward, delivering an indiscriminate cleansing to everyone around them.

"Huck! You son of a %&)&*%&¥…@"

Amid his teammate's curses, the two scale-less Pukis were shredded by the storm, and even the two scale-armored close-combat Pukis received several cuts.

As for Huck's teammate, unfortunately, he was turned into a bloody figure, though he wasn't dead.

But with only two badly wounded Pukis left, he could finish them off in a few moves...

Feeling pleased, Huck glanced at one of the stone pillars nearby.

The storm had affected this stone pillar, causing some of the outer rock layer to crumble and revealing the white body of a Puki inside.

A chill shot straight up Huck's spine!

His eyes quickly scanned the other stone pillars, and beneath some of the fallen cracks, the same coloration of a Puki's body could be seen!

"Run!"

Huck turned and fled, hearing his teammate's curses behind him. But Huck didn't care. One warning was all the loyalty he felt towards a teammate.

Regardless of whether these Pukis hidden in the stone pillars were self-destructive or combative, it was clear he couldn't handle them. He needed to report to the Viscount and let him decide what to do!

However, when he finally managed to escape outside, he found a pitted ground and some familiar looking corpses, along with Lord Viscount fighting in the sea of Pukis in the distance...

That's right, a sea of Pukis!

Countless glowing Puki fired continuously at the swiftly moving Viscount in the distance, while the Viscount turned the blood in her hands into fine threads and shot them out.

Huck could probably guess where that mass of blood was coming from...

Although the Viscount looked impressive wielding countless skills, Huck immediately judged that she couldn't win—she didn't have much blood left, and the Puki on the ground seemed endless.

Even worse, Huck even saw a few Puki, pierced by the blood line and supposedly dead, get back up after a while!

This isn't going anywhere!

Huck decisively pulled out a scroll from his pocket—Invisibility Technique!

He then cast Wind Speed on himself and took the opportunity to slip away while the Viscount attracted nearly all the firepower!

Though he wasn't sure what he'd do in the future, for now, keeping his own life was the priority!

...

Lin Jun noticed this deserter, but all the Puki were besieging the Vampire, and he was too lazy to divert forces to deal with him.

He simply generated some Puki on the lower levels to block his way out.

This time, Lin Jun deliberately restrained Xiao Hai from making a move, wanting to test his own strength against a Diamond Level opponent.

However, right from the start, he suffered a small setback.

Every bat Puki struck down by the blood line crashed and shattered without exception.

Her ability to manipulate blood was even stronger than Lacus's, and such skills that could precisely target and attack multiple targets over a wide range were indeed formidable.

Impressive as it was, it wasn't uncounterable.

After suffering a setback, Lin Jun deployed ground troops, all equipped with Fungal Filament Reassembly Level 4.

With such a minor wounding skill as the blood line, even if it killed the Puki, under the effect of Fungal Filament Reassembly, they would soon rise again.

In addition to the Puki's astonishing numbers, they achieved an endless effect.

The Vampire on the opposite side clearly noticed this detail, but she had no other choice but to fight a losing battle.

The Puki blocked her retreat, and the blood drawn from cannon fodder in her hands was dwindling...

In fact, even if she had more blood, breaking through would be difficult as controlling blood also consumed Magic Power, and by now she had little Magic Power left...

The continuous all-angle attacks left her with no chance to transform and flee, forcing her to futilely kill the Puki gathered in front of her over and over.

At a certain moment, as her Magic Power ran out, the few remaining Blood Balls in the Vampire's hand collapsed with a bang, yet the ocean of Puki in front of her seemed endless…

-----------------

When Vera led the twins out of the Underground City, he instinctively paused.

Something seemed amiss?

The surroundings were eerily quiet, with no adventurers passing by, no sounds of small animals, not even guards supposed to be stationed at the door.

"Vera?" Fei Ling asked in confusion.

Having left the Underground City, Fei Ling naturally felt less alert.

"Let's head back."

Though Vera didn't know what had happened, he decided to retreat and observe.

Tier Four Light Magic—Light Curtain!

A wall of light appeared behind the three, blocking their retreat, while dense footsteps sounded from behind the trees.

Vera instantly drew the curved saber from his waist, standing on guard with Fei Ling and Fei Yin as they quickly searched for an escape gap.

But soon, they saw the symbols on the people surrounding them.

"Church?"

A group of Church Warriors formed an array, with their meticulously maintained armor shining brilliantly under the sunlight.

"Our target is the Demon Race, you three don't act rashly."

Priest Mein spoke from behind the array, maintaining the Light Curtain while advising Vera and the others not to resist.

Seeing themselves surrounded by at least thirty Church Warriors—none of whom were below Silver Level—

Vera could only lay down his weapon…

After a simple body search, they were cleared of suspicion.

This was expected, as in the team, Solalin's Realm of Truth didn't react, indicating there were no members of the Demon Race among them. With no suspicious items on them, they were likely not part of the Demon Race's crew.

Mein and the others had been inspecting many adventurers like Vera throughout the day, yet hadn't discovered any members of that Demon Race group.

Bam—bam bam bam—!

A sudden noise drew everyone's attention toward the entrance of the Underground City.

Covered in dust and having lost his Magic Staff, Huck appeared at the exit of the Underground City, urgently slapping the light curtain with both hands.

"Hurry! Let me out! Let me out!"

Suddenly, as if something caught him from their blind spot, he was dragged to the ground.

"Damn! Let me go! Help! Save me—"

The heartrending cries for help stunned everyone.

Solalin leaped out of the array towards the door, shouting loudly, "Mein, the Light Curtain!"

Mein snapped back to reality, hurriedly making the Light Curtain blocking the exit disappear.

However, when Solalin rushed into the Underground City hall, and after searching around, saw no sign of anyone. The hall connected multiple corridors, and the man calling for help had already been dragged somewhere. She only found a dropped small box on the ground.

"What's going on?" a worried Mein who had followed up asked.

Solalin shook the box and poured out a few gray-white pills, "Mein, we might not need to wait for that Demon Race team anymore…"
